Evergreen is the name of the company, From Wikipedia:

Ever Given (長賜輪) is a Golden-class container ship, one of the largest in the world. The ship is operated by Taiwanese company Evergreen Marine and is registered in Panama.[5]

Why do all the stories name the boat EVER GIVEN when it clearly says EVERGREEN on the ship itself?

The ship is named “Ever Given” (on the bow), it’s owned by “Evergreen” (on the side).

Which was always confusing when Evergreen Airlines was operational, both used similar fonts in their name but were unrelated.

Actually, other photos of the stuck ship show EVER GIVEN on the other side of the ship. It looks like Ever Given is the name of the ship, and Evergreen is the name of the shipping company.

The Ever Given, a 400-meter (1,312 foot) container ship, Tuesday became stuck in the canal sideways, with its bow wedged in one bank and its stern nearly touching the other, according to ship operators and images posted on social media. The ship, operated by Taiwan-based Evergreen Group, is one of the world’s biggest ocean vessels. It can move more than 20,000 containers and is taller than the Empire State Building if turned upright.

My friend received a questionnaire for U.S. District Court jury duty. It states that a person can be excused if he's over the age of 70. Legally speaking, if this guy is age 70 plus a day, is he over the age of 70? Driving 80+ miles one way every day would be quite a pain.

My friend received a questionnaire for U.S. District Court jury duty. It states that a person can be excused if he's over the age of 70. Legally speaking, if this guy is age 70 plus a day, is he over the age of 70? Driving 80+ miles one way every day would be quite a pain.

He can ask for a re-schedule of his jury duty date or simply plead hardship if he doesn't qualify for the age exemption.

The Reuters report turned out to be mistaken. The canal is still fully blocked and may remain so for days.

An announcement that the ship had been re-floated was quickly quashed.

Hope appeared at around noon on Wednesday. Shipping agent GAC Egypt, citing the SCA, said that the ship had been moved "alongside" the canal bank, a term which means the ship is parallel to the waterway.

"Convoys and traffic are expected to resume as soon as vessel is towed to another position," read the announcement.

However, according to Bloomberg, no such announcement has been made by the SCA.

An assistant manager at GAC Egypt, Ahmed Mekawy, said that the company had received inaccurate information, The Independent reported.

The first ship from a convoy that had been blocked by a stranded vessel in the Suez Canal is on the move, indicating a resumption of traffic in the waterway, a shipping source and witness said on Wednesday.

Port agent GAC said the stranded ship, Ever Given, had been partially refloated and moved alongside the canal bank.

OUF: new pics suggest the #EVERGIVEN might have impaled the canal shore with its bulbous bow. Wild if true.

Bulbous bows look weird but modify how water flows around the bow, making ships more efficient.

On average over 50 vessels a day pass thru the canal carrying just about anything that moves between Europe and Asia. That's a lot of late deliveries. Ships that divert around the Cape of Good Hope will incur about a week of additional travel time and costs. Perishable products may spoil.

The Suez Canal is just about the worst place for this to happen.

The financial implications of an extended Suez Canal blockage are significant. According to Lloyd’s List Intelligence tracking data around 165 vessels representing 13m dwt are currently either waiting at either end of the canal or blocked from exiting.

That total includes:

• 41 bulk carriers (2.9m dwt) including six capes and 20 panamax and supramaxes. Two bulk ore carriers

• 24 crude tankers, including three VLCCs and nine suezmaxes

• 33 containerships, including four of 197,000 dwt-plus (including Ever Given) which puts them in the 20,000 teu category.

• 16 LPG or LNG carriers

• 15 product tankers including three long range two ships. These will likely be carrying 90,000-tonne cargoes of jet fuel or diesel to Europe or the Mediterranean.

Containerised goods represent around 26% of total Suez traffic and in value terms delays will be significant. Rough calculations suggest westbound traffic is worth around $5.1bn daily while eastbound traffic is worth $4.5bn.

Actually the Ever Given is owned by Japanese Company Shoei Kisen Kaisha. Evergreen, a Taiwanese company, is the operator.

EVA Airlines is owned by Evergreen Shipping (Taiwan)

Evergreen Airlines (McMinnville, Oregon) was not.





And... EVA/Evergreen Taipei did the conversion that created the Dreamlifters, using Boeing engineering done in Russia. But Evergreen (McMinnville) was picked by Boeing to be the first operator of the Dreamlifters.
