IT"s BENCHSLAP THURSDAY!!!!!!!!
To him, if he even thought about it (facts not in evidence), it'd be a loyalty test - "are you willing to put your life at risk for Your Favorite President?"raison de arizona wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 3:25 pm So tfg is having an event here today. We are having a "heat wave" - it's all heat waves now. Anyway, going up to 110 degrees today. It's only noon and half a dozen people have already been carried away from the line waiting to get in on stretchers. It's gonna be a blood bath once the temperature starts climbing this afternoon, it's only around 100 now.
In the past some people have told me, you should live in Arizona. When I remind them I am not fond of heat, they go, oh, it's a dry heat. Then I have to ask, if it is not bad, why does your baseball team need to play indoors?raison de arizona wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 3:25 pm So tfg is having an event here today. Criminal investigation into campaign donations for Arizona governor underway

(The Center Square) – There is now a criminal investigation underway by Attorney General Kris Mayes’ office into a group home company’s donations to Gov. Katie Hobbs and the state Democratic Party.
The Arizona Republic reported that Sunshine Residential Homes donated roughly $400,000 to Hobbs, including to her campaign and inauguration, as well as to the state Democratic Party, but questions arose when the Department of Child Safety raised their daily pay rate per child by around 60%, which is $149 to $195. This came as other homes were getting their asks for more funds rejected. According to the outlet, the company will be complying with the investigation.
After the story broke, Senate President Pro Tempore T.J. Shope sent a letter to Mayes and Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell saying that the situation can “only be described as a pay-to-play scheme” involving the company, DCS, and Hobbs’ office. He said that it could involve violations of several laws ranging from bribery, fraud schemes, conflict of interest, and illegally spending state dollars.
In a statement, Shope referred to the allegations as a “disgusting abuse of taxpayer dollars to further her political career.” ABC15 Arizona reported that the company is already under scrutiny for the death of a 9-year-old boy with diabetes who was in their care.
“Knowing Arizona’s Governor and the Arizona Democratic Party are providing preferential treatment to a facility alleged to have engaged in negligence leading to the death of a child is unconscionable,” the senator stated.

Ariz. Daily Star: Arizona AG to launch criminal probe of group home donations linked to Hobbs:raison de arizona wrote: ↑Sun Jun 09, 2024 6:35 pm Imma take what the NY Post says with a grain of salt, but definitely concerning.
So: State senator sent a letter to AG, alleging crimes; AG said, "we'll look into it."Attorney General Kris Mayes is opening a criminal probe into whether laws were broken in a contract awarded to a major donor to a political committee run by Gov. Katie Hobbs.
The move, announced late Thursday, stems from a decision by the Department of Child Services to increase the amount of money it is paying Sunshine Residential Homes for caring for children who are removed from their homes.
Capitol Media Services reported shortly after Hobbs took office in 2023 that the company had contributed $100,000 to cover the cost of her inauguration. Only Arizona Public Service, with its $250,000 contribution, donated more.
All totaled, Hobbs raked in nearly $1.5 million from corporations and other special interests to cover the expenses of the event, which cost only about $207,000.

The Arizona Republic, which reported on Sunshine getting a 60% increase in the rates it is being paid by DCS, says the company donated another $300,000 to the Democratic Party, much of that while Hobbs was running for governor in 2022.

In a letter late Thursday to Shope, Nick Klingerman, the chief counsel of the AG’s office criminal division, acknowledged his agency is statutorily authorized to investigate the list of crimes spelled out in the letter [from a state senator].
“To that end, the Attorney General’s Office will be opening an investigation,’’ he wrote.
Moar and docs at: https://arizonaslaw.blogspot.com/2024/0 ... again.htmlUPDATE: Hamadeh and Attorney Ready To Post $209,000 Cash Bond, Court of Appeals Dismisses (First) Appeal
Abe Hamadeh, attorney Ryan Heath and the other Plaintiffs indicated that they are ready to post a $209,000 cash bond on Friday while they appeal the dismissal of their election-related case and the sanctions imposed. However, the Court of Appeals today REJECTED their first appeal.
Chief Judge David Gass explained that the appeal from the initial dismissal of the case was premature because the sanctions issue had not been decided, and that the Superior Court's order should not have included language saying it was an appealable final judgment (Rule 54(b)).
As it turns out, Superior Court Judge Susanna Pineda signed the Order prepared by Heath, and that the Defendants (Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, Attorney General Kris Mayes, and Maricopa County) had objected to the Order including the 54(b) language.
Hamadeh/Heath/Crosby/Mast filed a second Notice of Appeal last week after the sanctions were levied (see below). (Hypothetically, the Court of Appeals could have seen that the 2nd Notice of Appeal was coming and could have waited or combined them. They did not do that - although it was apparently in the record they received from Superior Court.)
Separately, Heath filed a Stipulation (agreed to by all of the defendants) on Friday to allow them to post a cash bond of (approximately) $209,000 to prevent any garnishments or actions.
Ryan @Ryan_L_Heath wrote: Yesterday, I asked the trial court to order the MC Clerk to expedite the transfer of the index of record to the court of appeals.
Rejecting jurisdiction of this appeal places process over substance and is an unfortunate waste of time for all involved in this case (including the defendants). The court of appeals already has the final judgment for the issue of sanctions (entered on May 30) in its record (it was repeatedly referenced in Abe’s opening brief and was included in the appendix), and the appellate court could have easily taken judicial notice of the trial court’s additional filings that it doesn’t have (there are only a few of them) and accepted jurisdiction.
I’m looking forward to finally dealing with the substantive issues in this case, which have yet to be addressed by anyone.
