For even more diverse results add in exponentiation and multiplication or division that relies on the correct order of operations.

As far as I'm concerned that's the right method...but you beat me, cuz you actually paid attention to how many of each were displayed in the last equation! Good job!!!

Are the “1”s ones or sevens?

Are the gloves squared?
Or is a glove to the power of 3 gloves?

The ones are ones. So, a coat plus a boot plus a boot is eighteen.

Are the numbers 6, 18 and 14 or 6, 78 and 74? Former math teacher questions the penmanship.

The 6, 8, 4, and ? are all tilted to the right at the same angle as the 1, and the top line is not horizontal enough to be a 7. If it's a 7, it's extremely sloppy, and it looks like a typeface, not hand-lettered. 99%+ it's a 1.

Surprised how many times I missed there were 2 boots or 4 gloves, or there is a multiplication sign there, or that in a prior life I remembered stupid things like order of operations. Just so I can feel like a lush and not a total idiot, I'm blaming a 90 Minute IPA.

It's the standard European way of writing a '1'. Here is a discussion with example...
