NATO - what does the future hold?

Re: NATO - what does the future hold?
I wonder how quickly the process could be here. Russia has just made it clear that they will invade countries that MIGHT join NATO, but being a member would likely shield them. So both nations now have an incentive to make it happen, though they might see themselves as having breathing room while Russia is focused elsewhere. Still, as we saw in WW1 and WW2, things can move quickly once shooting has started.raison de arizona wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 11:27 amBREAKING: Russia foreign ministry spokeswoman says there will be 'detrimental consequences' if Sweden and Finland try to join NATO

Sweden and Finland joining NATO would be a direct consequence of Russia invading Ukraine.

Well, my maternal grandmother was Ukranian, and she was paler than I am. And I darn near glow in the dark.

Huh, interesting.

Oh dear. Given that Anonymous, which is mostly US and EU based, has been attacking the Russian government, that could escalate quickly.raison de arizona wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 3:59 pm Huh, interesting.

Imma assume this is a rhetorical question.

I mean, obviously, yes, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't ask the question loudly to cudgel them with it until the answers are given and then cudgel them with those answers.raison de arizona wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 5:02 pm Imma assume this is a rhetorical question.

I mean, I won't lie, there was intentionally a theme there to be grabbed and with which to be run.

In the meantime...
https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/na ... 022-04-25/NATO warships arrive at Finnish port for training exercises
Three NATO warships arrived in the southwestern Finnish port of of Turku on Monday to train with Finland's navy as Helsinki considers the possibility of joining the U.S.-led alliance amid increased tensions with Russia over Ukraine.
Latvian minelayer LVNS Virsaitis and minehunters Estonian ENS Sakala and Dutch HNLMS Schiedam will train with two minehunters from Finland's coastal fleet, the Finnish defence forces said in a statement.
The two-day exercise, set to commence on April 28, will prepare the Finnish ships to take part in NATO response forces in 2022 and focus on "mine countermeasures and working in a multinational framework", the statement said.

I think NATO should embrace independence for Kaliningrad. It is obvious from its location that it has traditionally been part of Germany and Poland.
