COVID-19 and the States
Re: COVID-19 and the States
This is a multi-part thread that is fascinating. Even if you don't live in Fla. Yikes.

With military reservists being deployed to assist in hospitals and vaccine sites, I'm beginning to wonder if we are allocating our national budget wisely.

Re: COVID-19 and the States
no no no you should be sending the reservists to the border and fight against all those migrants that will bring covid into the US
Re: COVID-19 and the States
Another record breaking day in Hawaii - 2,205 new coronavirus cases. I think that's the 3rd record high in one week.

I'm sensing a pattern.
Re: COVID-19 and the States
A little while back, the Hawaii governor gave the island mayors the power to decide what precautions were appropriate for each island. All of the mayors reduced restrictions. I didn't think that would turn out well.
And it didn't turn out well. Cases rose, but we were told that the rates were still low, and we had to learn to live with the coronavirus. People became sloppy about social distancing & masking. The rates slowly rose. Then the variant came along, and everything is exploding. But no one in power has brought back restrictions except on the Big Island which just now limited indoor gatherings.
Staffing shortages at EMS have led to temporary shutdowns of some ambulance stations.

https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2021/12/2 ... atherings/The state Health Department is urging county mayors to impose more controls on New Year’s Eve gatherings. They fear revelers will add fuel to the already out of control surge of COVID infections.
The DOH is recommending that counties limit indoor gatherings and are also urging residents to practice social distancing and use masks.
There are a record 14,000 active COVID cases statewide.

Meanwhile on Oahu, long lines of people are getting vaccinated or a booster. Looks like some people are getting over "vaccine hesitancy." Better late than never.

Federal help is coming into Pennsylvania, but as of now, only in Scranton and York. There is no shortage of beds here across the state; there's a shortage of nurses.

I'm trying to find to find more info about this on the web. Seems like a joke.
ETA I found a similar map at https://www.usatoday.com/in-depth/news/ ... 034413002/

Supposedly CDC data. This isn’t where I sourced the map, but I lost the link.
Bonus scary hospital data from HHS. So many hospitals in danger.

Re: COVID-19 and the States
People of AZ my sister works in the ER & ICU of a Phx hospital. She just told me it is like a war zone, worse than the peak of the Pandemic up to this point. Please stay home. ER’s are overflowing and wait times are 6-8 hours if you are lucky.
We had an ER visit the other day (for a cut) and it was crazy. Sick people lying across the floor. Vomiting all around us.

Re: COVID-19 and the States
The State of Hawaii has posted a new record high of covid cases - 3484, breaking the daily record for the 4th time in about 10 days. Despite 74.1% of the residents are fully vaccinated (not including boosters).
Maui's Mayor just announced that being "fully vaccinated" now means people also must have a booster shot. County employees are required to get it. Restaurants, movie theaters, and other business will deny entry if a person is not "fully vaccinated." Small step, but at least SOMEONE is doing something to slow down the crush of illness.

Re: COVID-19 and the States
My sister and I lost a really good friend Tuesday night to Covid.
He had been in the hospital over a month. His mother died of natural causes Dec 8 and he was in the hospital on a vent.
He gave it all he got but covid gave harder. He was a diabetic and an anti-vaxer fox lover.
