Dog that survived being sucked into tornado near Lithgow returns home from vet

A dog that was sucked up and tossed 300 metres by a tornado on the New South Wales Central Tablelands has returned home after two weeks at the vet.

Key points:
Pom Pom suffered a punctured lung and broken ribs when she was thrown across a paddock
Her owners thought she did not survive the twister, which hit between Bathurst and Lithgow
Clean-up efforts continue after more than 10 houses were damaged
The September 30 twister carved out a 30-kilometre path of destruction between Bathurst and Lithgow.

Pom Pom the Pomeranian weighs 1.5 kilograms and her owners say she stood little chance of staying on the ground in the storm, which ripped off roofs and demolished houses.

She was picked up and thrown into a nearby paddock.

In August 2020 my lovely Spartacus was suffering severely with health issues and had to be put to sleep. Even with the roommates 3 cats it was still a little quieter in the DryInk house. But earlier this year a friend needed to re-home one of her dogs, Oddie (as in, she's an odd one). My friend had received the dog from her daughter because of issues with their neighbor (long, boring story). Oddie has separation anxiety, and with my friend returning back to in-person teaching this fall they needed someone who worked from home to be Oddie's human. So in May I picked up my new furbaby.

She's a 3-4 year old black lab mutt with slight brindle coloring. Here she is napping with her new squeak toy.

Pancake attended her first day of school today. She whined in excitement from the time we got in the car, through the 20 minute drive there, and through most of the hour long class. She obeyed commands and met some human "good friends". She was so tired she didn't make a sound on the way home. She is now napping.

So in May I picked up my new furbaby.

She was never the flashy one, and hardly ever let me get a picture, but Chili Dog, the founding member of the 699th, died peacefully in my arms today.

We are crushed. She was 16.
