Famously, Goldwater said of his loss "27 million voters can't be wrong". Notably, he is not remembered for what he didn't say about the reliability of the 43 million that voted for LBJ
Be assured that a walk through the ocean of most souls Would scarcely get your feet wet

I have a friend who thinks Goldwater had votes stolen, and he really won. Bitter after all these years. We don't talk politics much.

2008 Obama won several states that just aren't realistic (e.g., Ohio, Indiana) or worth the risk (e.g., Florida) now.
I think Harris' best-case scenario is repeating 2020 plus North Carolina. 319 to Biden's 306.
A more plausible scenario is the 2020 map minus Arizona and Georgia, but still winning. (This is the Rust Belt route aka Clinton's path plus those critical 70,000 votes that caused Clinton's loss.)
A plausible (but conceivable) scenario is a mix of the Rust and Sun Belts, like 2020 but losing Wisconsin and Michigan.

And, yes it did:
Harris wrote in a campaign email on Friday that after Trump won the [2016] election, she went home and ate a family-sized bag of Doritos and “did not share one chip with anybody,” not even her husband.
7/11 over 1/6 any day.

Saw my first Harris for President sign a few doors down. No Trump signs or flags anywhere in the neighborhood, but there is that one upside down flag guy.
Like as the waves make towards the pebbled shore,
So do our minutes hasten to their end . . .

Tonight is the beginning of the convention coronation.
I wonder what the quadfectee will do to try to distract and keep attention on himself instead.

Gay-ron-tead he will say or do something, and he'll make a mess of it. Evil Brandon waited for the GOP convention to finish before he made the switch-a-roo handing his baton to Kamala throwing the Republicans into disarray. The OSG will get impatient, make his play too early, and watch it get lost in the news cycle. He's gonna light his own farts with his pants on, and wonder why his shirt is burning.

I've seen a bunch of homemade Kamala signs around here. Most are just cardboard that simply say "Kamala", with a heart shape around the name. I like the poster paint and cardboard ones more than the professionally printed ones.

One of the few admirable things Bernie Sanders did in 2016 was to say "I hate to shock you, but I went to the toilet during that break too" when Fox News et al were Mocking Hillary Clinton for being late back to a Primary debate because she had to run to the loo during a commercial break and didn't make it back in time.bob wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 8:30 pm https://x.com/krassenstein/status/1825314152455327921

Love this sign. Vestavia Hills is a white flight town created inside Birmingham. I think it sends a really powerful message that it's okay to not vote Republican (there are probably a few blue dots here and there, but they certainly don't put out signs). The mindset (brainwashing) here about the evil of Democrats is super powerful.
Personal anecdote: Back when Jeff Sessions' senate seat was open, our gov appointed Luther Strange (who had been state AG). He did not run for that seat, so it was open. The R primary was wild, but the most normal R did not win; it was Roy Moore (the crazy 10 commandments guy removed twice from the AL supreme court/mall creeper) vs Doug Jones (the honorable guy who finally got the Birmingham church bombing criminals convicted). My hard core republican friend said (when Moore won the primary), "I don't know what to do; I can't vote for Moore!" I said, "Great news! There's a great guy named Doug Jones who's running. He''ll be a good senator!" Her response was,"I can't vote for a Democrat!" This is a person with a master's degree married to a dentist.
All that to say that people here just are conditioned to think you can only vote for GOP because the Ds are baby killers, evil, lazy freeloaders (all of course with an undercurrent of racism, conscious or not). Seriously.
This could not be a better sign for its location.

That's a really well-made sign, like no ordinary campaign sign. Look at the details! Canvas and grommets with thick cable ties holding it on four places. Cheap pine, but precisely the size of the sign.
But in Alabama, it'll probably be defaced in less than a week.

Soon I'll be seeing videos of people stealing signs around here. My area is probably redder than Vestavia. Those posts are entertaining when the comments start rolling in about how to prevent sign stealing. It usually involved hot pepper juice, razor blades, honey (to attract ants), and other creative ideas to punish the sign stealers. We're also in a small enough area that lots of times someone can identify the sign stealer (lots are caught on video).Foggy wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 2:08 pm That's a really well-made sign, like no ordinary campaign sign. We've all seen the "reaction" videos - food, music, etc. Here the next president reacting to a former one.

An increasingly plausible scenario is one in which Harris wins Michigan and Wisconin, loses Pennslyvania, yet is the overall winner due to also winning Arizona and ... North Carolina.

I love that 'Gimme Hope Kamala' song, clever lyrics and the tune has always been catchy.
