The right-wing House Freedom Caucus on Monday voted to kick out one of its members — and then immediately saw another resign in response.
Why it matters: Rep. Warren Davidson (R-Ohio) is at least the third lawmaker ejected from the Freedom Caucus in the last year for breaking with the group's leadership.
What we're hearing: The Freedom Caucus voted to kick out Davidson after he endorsed a primary challenger to Rep. Bob Good (R-Va.), the caucus' chair, according to a lawmaker familiar with the matter.

A dramatic divide is erupting in the far-right House Freedom Caucus after the group voted to oust a third member in the span of a year.
The ejection of Rep. Warren Davidson, R-Ohio, was led by allies of Chairman Bob Good, R-Va., Politico reported. Good recently lost a primary election for his district in Virginia – the only congressional Republican to do so – and Davidson openly backed Good’s challenger, the Trump-ensorsed John McGuire.
Good’s allies believed Davidson’s endorsement of McGuire violated rules against publicly attacking a fellow member and merited his removal from the group, Axios reported. Caucus members voted to oust Davidson 16-13, but the vote occurred when some of Davidson’s allies weren’t present.

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told Politico he disagreed with the decision and acknowledged that it could lead to resignations among the group’s members.
“I voted against it and spoke against it. … I’ve always been opposed to that,” Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told Politico.

Republicans in Congress have wanted to get the audio recording of the Hur investigation. No one is getting a copy.

While Trump was speaking, DOJ filed a brief opposing efforts to FOIA the Biden-Hur recording, saying it could interfere with "pending investigations and reasonably anticipated future investigations."

House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) is launching an investigation into special counsel Jack Smith’s deputy on the Jan. 6 prosecution, asking the Justice Department (DOJ) to turn over all its files related to any internal review of J.P. Cooney.
The letter to the DOJ is yet another escalation of Jordan’s probes into those investigating former President Trump and comes the day after the powerful chair demanded information from the daughter of the New York judge who oversaw Trump’s hush money case.
The request to the DOJ’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR), obtained by The Hill, mirrors a similar effort requesting information from the office on the lead prosecutor on the Mar-a-Lago prosecution.
A spokesperson for Smith declined to comment.
The launch of a new investigative angle from Jordan comes after the Justice Department’s office of inspector general released a report reviewing the sentencing of Trump ally Roger Stone after a whistleblower alleged potential improper political influence in reining back their suggested sentence. Stone was later pardoned by Trump.
Cooney, then the fraud and public corruption section (FPC) chief, was among those involved in prosecuting Stone, who was convicted of obstructing a congressional investigation into Trump, as well as making false statements and witness tampering.

I didn't watch all the way through on Kennedy's grilling of Wray about Epstein, but I have to say that my recent binge of Dateline on NBC, the detectives just don't give up details on an investigation until they're damn ready to give it all up, and that's for REASONS. Yeah, family members get frustrated not knowing what's going on, but if LEO gives them any nuggets, what's to stop them from spilling to the press, etc. etc. etc.

Yes. And as for Epstein's tapes, he was able to get them to his lawyer so they will NEVER be revealed. Just like Robert Kardashian, who pulled up to OJ's house and left 5 minutes later with a garment bag right after OJ returned from out of town after killing two people. Nobody will ever see the bloody clothing inside that garment bag and nobody will ever see Epstein's videos from his Palm Beach mansion. He was tipped off and away he went, leaving scattered, opened computer equipment and video cameras with dangling wires, as described by the Chief of Police in an NBC interview and also Detective Recarey gave the same details to Julie Brown for her book. The hard drives that had been inside those opened up computers were likely destroyed without his lawyer even looking at them or asking what was on them most likely. Just like the clothing inside OJ's garment bag, probably destroyed without Kardashian ever looking inside. I see nothing....nothing....Kendra wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 12:19 am I didn't watch all the way through on Kennedy's grilling of Wray about Epstein, but I have to say that my recent binge of Dateline on NBC, the detectives just don't give up details on an investigation until they're damn ready to give it all up, and that's for REASONS. Biden impeachment backlash builds within House GOP

House Republicans are furious about being forced into a last-minute Biden impeachment vote — which they say could hurt their campaigns, top GOP sources tell Axios.
Why it matters: Even leadership doesn't want it. But just one member can force a vote.
Watch hardliners — Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) or Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) — as most likely to pull the trigger, sources tell Axios.
Top House Republicans were prepared to let the Biden impeachment inquiry end with the report that came out last week.
Zoom in: "I tell you what I'm afraid of ... they're going to say, we don't have time to do it," Biggs said last week on Steve Bannon's "War Room" podcast.
With Congress stuck in D.C. next month to hammer out a short-term funding deal, there's plenty of time for an enterprising Republican to force the issue.
Between the lines: Just last month, GOP leaders failed to stop Luna from forcing a vote on fining Attorney General Merrick Garland. The Garland vote failed on the House floor.
Expect the same from an impeachment vote, Republicans overwhelmingly tell Axios.

"stuck in D.C."
Boy, that says a mouthful.
I mean, imagine the horror.
But it seems--and Axios is not alone here--to have become the accepted norm that Congress doesn't actually do anything other than put on badly produced and written propaganda videos for conspiracy theorists and racists.
So I guess, mission accomplished for the Gorka, Bannon, Flynn crowd.
Yay?

‘He’s got to pay a price’: Unaired footage reveals Nancy Pelosi’s Jan. 6 fury
Kyle Cheney
Updated Wed, August 28, 2024 at 3:51 AM GMT+2·8 min read
Nancy Pelosi spent the duration of the Jan. 6 Capitol attack focused on ensuring Joe Biden would be certified president as soon as possible. Then she turned her attention to Donald Trump.
“I just feel sick about what he did to the Capitol and the country today,” Pelosi said as she slumped, visibly exhausted, in the back of her SUV in the pre-dawn hours of Jan. 7. “He’s got to pay a price for that.”
Pelosi’s comment was included in about 50 minutes of unaired footage captured by her daughter, filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi, who was at the former speaker’s side at key moments on Jan. 5, 6 and 7 in 2021. POLITICO has reviewed the footage, which HBO turned over this week to the Republican-led House Committee on Administration.
The panel is conducting an investigation aimed at undermining the findings of the Jan. 6 select committee, which found Trump singularly responsible for the havoc his supporters unleashed on the Capitol, and spotlighting the security failures that exacerbated the violence. The panel has reviewed video from various sources, including security footage and the clips from HBO.

This Republican congress needs to get busy for the next few weeks. They need to remind the voters of what they've done for the past two years.

On the contrary, by doing *nothing* for the next few weeks, they are perfectly encapsulating what they've done for the past two years.

House GOP leaders weigh options as Trump pushes for a government shutdown fight

Donald Trump is pressuring Republicans to shut down the government at the end of this month if Congress doesn’t pass a GOP-backed proposal to establish new election rules nationwide.
Trump has called on Republicans in Congress to link funding the government with the SAVE Act, which would require proof of citizenship to vote — in a bid to target non-citizen voting, which is already illegal. And House Republican leaders are considering adopting the strategy and picking a fight with Democrats.
The deadline to fund the government is Sept. 30. The GOP-led House and Democratic-led Senate have to agree on how to move forward in order to prevent a shutdown, and Democrats have decried the SAVE Act as a poison pill.
“I would shut down the government in a heartbeat if they don’t get it,” Trump said on the “Monica Crowley Show” last week.
“It should be in the bill. And if it’s not in the bill, you want to close it up,” he said. “So I’m not there but, you know, I have influence.”
The two parties are nowhere close to agreeing on a full-year government funding package, meaning a continuing resolution, or CR, will be necessary as a stopgap solution. Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., has not announced how he plans to handle the issue.
A House GOP leadership aide indicated Tuesday that tying it to the SAVE Act is under consideration to try and unify the party.
“The length for a CR, as well as bills attached like the SAVE Act, could impact whether some Republicans typically against the spending measure are swayed to vote for it,” the aide told NBC News, requesting anonymity to divulge internal considerations. “Conversations with members are ongoing this week. Nothing is final.”
The strategy is backed by the hard-right Freedom Caucus. Texas GOP Rep. Chip Roy, a prominent Freedom Caucus member, has also been publicly making the case for it.
It’s a risky strategy that could lead to a shutdown on Oct. 1 if Democrats don’t relent — and they are unlikely to. Republicans have been blamed in the past for instigating shutdowns by demanding passage of provisions they cannot pass through the normal process.
