I'm seeing on Twitter that Trump plans to announce his VP candidate today (I can't find that tweet again, though, so just maybe?), and that Marco Rubio has been informed that it's not him.

Putin met with Hungary's Orban.

Then Orban met with Trump.

Then Trump announced Vance as his VP pick.

Native Ohion's ability to influence voters in neighboring Michigan and Pennsylvania (and nearby Wisconsin) seems marginal at best.

The ability to fundraise off the conservatives in Silicon Valley probably already has peaked, and won't move that needle much.

I think the reaction of most people to this news will be "Who?" Which is probably the way Turnip likes it.

Of course he will probably storm in and yell at everyone about the crappy loser they chose for his VP, even if it was his idea, so they can enjoy them all telling him how great he is and them trying to talk him into it.

Vance was seen as a hillbilly whisper, i.e., he "explained" why poor whites moved away from the Democratic party (and why Clinton lost in 2016). Vance was criticized for "overlooking" a rather obvious explanation: racism.

So this is a base-strengthening choice, sure. But hardly base expanding.

Trump likes the fact that his book was made into a movie. So there is the Hollywood connection plus the connection to creepy billionaire Peter Theil, who thinks that women shouldn't have the vote.
