The retirement plan for Congress members is a good one, comparable to the better ones in the private sector, but it is not the easy-street-for-the-rest-of-your-life that some think it is.

First of all, the retirement benefits are prorated, depending on length of service, just like any retirement plan. I believe that they have to serve 30 years to get full benefits.

Secondly, a congresscritter must be a member of the plan for five years, in order to receive any benefits at all. So, a member of Congress must serve at least two and a half terms. Senators will get benefits after a single term. Plus, those benefits do not begin until retirement age, which I believe is 65.

So, even if Bobo serves three terms, she will have to wait for 27 years to receive even partial benefits.

They do not collect their full salary for life, as some urban legends claim.

The Colorado Republican was seen sporting a pair of golden Trump sneakers at an election watch party on Tuesday. Boebert, who switched from Colorado's 3rd congressional District to the 4th congressional District, won the GOP primary for the constituency.

But the flamboyant footwear she was wearing wasn't even the real deal, Boebert said.

David Wheeler, president of the Democrat super political action committee (Super PAC) American Muckraker, announced in a press release that his defamation lawsuit against Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) has been settled.

“The Honorable Kathryn A. Starnella, Magistrate Judge in Federal District Court in Denver, stated in her written opinion that Boebert defamed me five times,” American Muckracker wrote. “In addition, Judge Starnella agreed with me that our donors should never have been threatened with being sued by Boebert. We were victorious in this case and I’m thankful to all our donors and supporters and their steadfast backing.”

Colorado Newsline reported that Wheeler did not disclose the terms of the lawsuit, referring to them as “confidential.”

Wheeler had accused Boebert of making several malicious false statements about the organization back in 2022, after a controversy erupted following American Muckracker’s creation of a website that allegedly made erroneous claims about her. Wheeler admitted to CNN that the website made incorrect statements about Boebert, although he defended the website’s main allegations against her.

Boebert accused Wheeler of “sloppy, reckless, and wildly irresponsible actions.” She also threatened legal action against the Super PAC, however, she never did so. Wheeler claimed that, by accusing the site’s main allegations of being fraudulent, Boebert had defamed the group and caused it to lose 92% of its donations afterward.

Boebert tried to have the lawsuit thrown out, but Judge Starnella refused to do so, claiming that her claims were too severe. Starnella’s ruling said that Boebert’s threats to sue the Super PAC’s sponsors and donors were unprotected by state law because “they were neither made in good faith nor in serious contemplation of litigation.”

According to a social media post from “America’s Mom,” Sherronna Bishop, U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) had prior knowledge of Mesa County Clerk and Recorder Tina Peters’ plan to breach the security of Mesa County’s Dominion Voting machines.

“Tina Peters is a whistleblower,” wrote Bishop on Facebook after Peters was sentenced to nine years behind bars. “She should have had congressional protection asap. She did not act independently. She communicated with [Rep.] Lauren Boebert before the images were made. BOEBERT was updated on all the events that would take place and had a meeting with Conan Hayes after the images were done. She told Clerk Peters, ’You get em girl, I have your back!’



During Peters’ 2022 appearance at the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association (CSPOA) conference in Las Vegas, she admitted that she discussed details of her crimes with Bishop, Boebert and Conan Hayes, the former professional surfer who is alleged to have used Gerald Wood’s identity to get into the Mesa County Elections Division and copy a hard drive, after the crimes were committed, but Bishop’s social media post suggests Boebert knew about Peters’ plans to violate Colorado law beforehand.

Boebert did not respond to an emailed request for comment, but the Congresswoman has been outspoken about “election integrity.” Following the 2020 election, Boebert posted on social media, “There is no way that anyone can call the 2020 presidential election fair.”
