Waters surrounding the US would be named the 'Donald John Trump Exclusive Economic Zone'

A House GOP lawmaker is spearheading an effort to name the United States’ coastal waterways after former President Trump.

Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., is introducing a bill on Friday to rename the immediate waters surrounding the U.S., called the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), as the "Donald John Trump Exclusive Economic Zone of the United States."

If passed, it would mandate the name change on any applicable laws, maps, documents and other records.

An EEZ refers to waterways immediately off a country’s coast where it can claim sole rights for fishing, drilling and other activities.

The U.S. has the largest EEZ in the world at 4,383,000 square miles.

Steube told Fox News Digital that Trump "cares about the strength and resilience of our oceans."

House GOP just voted to hold Garland in contempt. Here’s what that means

Merrick Garland became the third attorney general in U.S. history to be held in contempt of Congress Wednesday as Republicans moved to punish the Justice Department for refusing to turn over audio related to President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents.

Contempt is one of U.S. lawmakers’ politically messiest and, until recent years, least-used powers. It is a tool that the House and the Senate can employ either to coerce compliance with a subpoena or to remove any obstruction from an ongoing investigation.

By approving a contempt resolution, the House effectively recommended that Garland be prosecuted. And recent cases against allies of former President Donald Trump including Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro have proved that a contempt resolution is far from symbolic, creating the basis for a case that can sometimes hold up in court.

Justice Department won't pursue contempt charges against Garland

The Justice Department has declined to pursue a criminal case against Attorney General Merrick Garland, just days after House Republicans voted to hold him in contempt for defying a congressional subpoena for audiotapes of President Biden.

Prosecutors said Garland enjoys a legal shield from prosecution because Biden asserted executive privilege over the tapes last month. The decision means the case is now closed.

That’s in line with how the Justice Department handled two previous episodes where congressional majorities advanced contempt resolutions against Garland’s predecessors, Attorneys General Eric Holder and Bill Barr.

"Consistent with this longstanding position and uniform practice, the Department has determined that the responses by Attorney General Garland to the subpoenas issued by the Committees did not constitute a crime, and accordingly the Department will not bring the congressional contempt citation before a grand jury or take any other action to prosecute the Attorney General," Carlos Uriarte, the assistant attorney general, said in a letter to Speaker Mike Johnson.

The other is a shitty no hoper bill that's going into the round file beside the speakers chair, especially in the last quarter of this House term. Which is what this actually is. White House: Hunter Biden helped with Biden speech prep Monday

The White House said that President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, was in a meeting with advisers on Monday to prepare for a speech later that day.

“He came back with his dad from Camp David, walked him into the speech prep and he was in the room. I can tell you he was in the room,” press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said when asked about reporting that Hunter Biden was advising his father.

NBC reported that Hunter Biden has joined meetings with the president and top aides since the debate Thursday. The president’s poor performance in the debate has led to shock and panic among Democrats, with some operatives, former aides and a House Democrat calling on him to step aside.

Jean-Pierre on Tuesday said Hunter Biden returned to the White House from Camp David with Biden on Monday afternoon, and the meeting happened quickly upon return. The meeting was to prepare Biden for a speech later that evening about the Supreme Court’s presidential immunity decision.

She argued that it’s the week of Fourth of July, so there are going to be family members around Biden this week, noting the president is “very close to his family.”

The Biden family was together at Camp David over the weekend, during which first lady Jill Biden called Vogue to insist that her husband isn’t dropping out of the 2024 race.
