While I'd be a fool not to see and acknowledge TFG's decline over the years, I also think there's another factor folks aren't taking into account, and that's his lifelong habit of using puffery or factually meaningless statements on a regular basis to bluff his way through any situation about which he isn't 100% sure and has no facts on his side. We see it in interviews and appearances going back decades. The man refuses to make statements that actually have meaningful value, and prefers to use statements which can be rationalized if ever challenged as semantically null or near-null.

Now add the idea of some kind of dementia of that. But I don't think it's all the dementia. I think it's the dementia grabbing the wheel and making a hard right at the end of one of his usual meaningless statements. Okay, and sometimes before the end.
