Makes him the important king of all.
Yes. When Trump supported a Speaker nominee that nominee lost making Trump a loser at one remove. Trump must expect Emmer to fail like the previous 2 nominees so he is warning against electing Emmer so when Emmer fails Trump can say he made that happen.

tfg doesn't care about hurting the GOP. tfg cares about getting someone in there that will do his bidding, i.e. go after Biden.

Seeing multiple news sources now saying that there were 26 holdouts.

In conference, he got 117 votes on the final ballot, while House Republican Conference Vice Chair Mike Johnson (La.) got 97. And in a roll call vote that followed, lawmakers said about 20 holdouts remained.

Trump, who previously backed Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) for Speaker before Jordan failed to garner enough votes on the floor, had largely remained on the sidelines as several House Republicans put their names forward for the Speaker role.

Conservative opposition to Emmer emerges

https://www.cbsnews.com/live-updates/ho ... 0-24-2023/
Shortly after Emmer was elected as the GOP's nominee for speaker, several conservative lawmakers publicly announced plans to vote against him when the House convenes for a formal floor vote.

Rep. Jim Banks of Indiana called Emmer the "single most liberal member" of Republican leadership and accused the "left flank" of the conference of blocking Jordan's nomination.

"I've supported every Republican nominee to be Speaker of the House so far, but I will not vote for Tom Emmer on the House floor," he said.

Banks, who lost to Emmer in the conference's race for majority whip in November, accused those who withheld support for Jordan of holding the broader House GOP "hostage and pushing Republicans to betray our voters and abandon our promises to the American people. I won't go along with it."

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida proclaimed on social media that she would not be supporting Emmer in a floor vote.

"This morning I voted for Rep Donalds for Speaker. Followed by Rep Johnson. Rep Emmer does not have votes to be speaker and I will be unable to support him on the floor. So, I'm going to ask Rep. Mark Green to throw his hat in the ring. We need to get a speaker!" she wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Rep. Troy Nehls of Texas told reporters some of Emmer's past comments are "causing him some problems today," though he didn't specify what the statements were. Still, the Texas Republican cast doubt on Emmer's ability to garner 217 votes and again pledged to nominate Trump for speaker on the floor.

"I told Tom Emmer I won't be the one that would tank him. If he can get to 216, he could probably have me at 217," Nehls told reporters. "But when it gets to my name and there's 10, 12, 15, I think Donald Trump is our answer."

Emmer can only afford four defections in a vote on the House floor to still win the speakership.

Many Speakers serve their terms
With diligence and zeal,
Pelosi and John Boehner,
Or good ol' Tip O'Neill

Others don't quite fit the role,
Incompetent or venal,
Resign in shame or just let go,
By vote or judgment penal

Some, like Newt or Hastert,
Don't acclimate to power,
Others, like Paul Ryan,
Say "I quit" and hit the shower

But with the office vacant now,
For longer than it should be,
The conga line of aspirants,
Is full of MAGAt would-bes

Fascists, insurrectionists,
Religious cranks, and Trumpers
All white men (no chicks allowed)
Seditionists, gun humpers.

The GOP's in disarray,
The failure stench pervasive,
Election '24 should prove,
Majority's evasive.

Tom Emmer dropped his bid for House speaker hours after he was nominated. A backlash from the right, including Donald Trump, sank his candidacy.
Tuesday, October 24, 2023 4:40 PM ET

Mr. Emmer’s abrupt exit signaled that Republicans were as far as ever from breaking a deadlock that has left Congress leaderless and paralyzed for three weeks.

Rep. Tom Emmer drops out of House speaker race

https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/ ... index.html
GOP Rep. Mike Gallagher said “we’re gonna do it again” with another candidate forum after Speaker designee Tom Emmer dropped out of the race in the face of overwhelming pushback on his path to the 217 votes needed to win the gavel.

Gallagher also assailed members within his own conference who he said won’t “abide” by the rules of their conference.

“If you have people that feel no loyalty to an institution like Congress because it’s weak,” he said, “they're not going to abide by the rules and conference and the norms of congressional behavior and it just seems like, you know, if you disagree with someone on one policy position – like a lot of people disagreed with Emmer position on gay marriage, I guess — that's enough to say you won’t support him for speaker. We can’t operate that way.”

He said that he believes they will try to vote right after the candidate forum.

“We’ll have a vote after the candidates make their case, and we’ll vote on that and if it looks like that person is close to 217, I guess theoretically we could go to the floor. Why not? See? Hope springs eternal,” he said.

Gallagher said that this same issue didn’t happen with Democrats because “Pelosi ruled with an iron fist.”

What makes you think he cares about the GOP?

If the party in any way shows something it can do without his explicit blessing, that's bad for Trump and we can't have that.

He'll burn the GOP to the ground before he let's it turn away from him.

These halfwits can't even decide on who's running, much less who to vote for.

Maybe they should have a list of people and just go to the next one every time one of them loses/drops out, rather than having another candidate forum every time.

I like the idea of changing the rules to let a plurality win. Let those score-and-some of Rs decide whether they will eat it and vote for a non-ideal R, or let Jeffries have a go at it. Either way, let's get the show on the road.

Once again, TFG is a reactor that does not think strategically. All he cares about is what this makes him look. If it makes him look like a big important man rather than an old bald weak loser, he is happy. In his head is the fear that people will realize he is weak, incompetent and a loser, and he will burn down any plans he has to distract people from figuring out he is a weak old loser. He cant help himself.

Reps. Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Kevin Hern (R-Okla.), who lost to Emmer earlier today, are back in the running.

Former President Trump called Emmer a “Globalist RINO” after his nomination Tuesday and said Emmer, who chaired the National Republican Congressional Committee during the 2022 cycle, never respected his endorsements.

The process to find a new Speaker now begins a fourth time.

House Republicans will gather Tuesday evening to hear another round of pitches from potential Speakers just hours after House Majority Whip Tom Emmer’s bid ended.

:snippity:

The candidates to be the GOP’s fourth Speaker nominee are:

Byron Donalds (Fla.)
Chuck Fleischmann (Tenn.)
Mark Green (Tenn.)
Kevin Hern (Okla.)
Mike Johnson (La.)
Roger Williams (Texas)

Donalds, Hern and Johnson ran for the nomination last time, while Fleischmann, Green and Williams are making their first run at the gavel.

The Republican conference will hold a candidate forum at 6 p.m.

Hern drops out of Speaker race
Rep. Kevin Hern (R-Okla.) has dropped out of the race, according to a source familiar.

He will instead throw his support to caucus Vice Chair Mike Johnson (R-La.).

That leaves five candidates in the race.

There are at least 5 who will not vote for X where X equals anyone.

Since they cannot lose more than 4, the next Speaker is likely to be a monkey trained to where a MAGA hat and give a thumbs up 👍.

Which, let's be honest, is all Kevin McCarthy ever was.

It would be the Dems fault if that worked to put Jeffries in! How dare the Dems only have a single candidate and all Dems vote the same! How undemocratic, unChristian, un-everything! You should be inclusive and vote for a clown!

And it's the Dems fault that we threw out the previous Speaker because … because … oh, it is, it is, it is!
