w/o a link for Rikker:
I have seen a YT clip that reported a boot camp walkout of recruits. The camp seems to be run by a rather tyranical commander. Also too the camp was not getting its gas to heat the buildings. A number of conscripts locked the commander in a shed and then left the premises, changed into civilian outfit and mingled into the folks of the near city.

The war in Ukraine has reached a stalemate, but the battle balance may be set to shift after Britain announced it will send Kyiv the Western-made heavy tanks it has long been calling for.
Western leaders have been treading carefully, continuously resisting pleas from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for more powerful battle tanks, which will help push back Russia's invasion.
The UK has now delivered a concrete pledge, announcing over the weekend it would send 14 Challenger 2 tanks.
There is optimism more NATO countries will follow suit and start "upping the ante" in the types of weapons they are willing to provide, Matthew Sussex, a senior fellow at the ANU's the Centre for Defence, told the ABC.
Germany is also expected to succumb to pressure to authorise the export of its Leopard 2 tanks, which are considered one of the best in the West.
"There's been a lot of reticence amongst West European countries about sending tanks to Ukraine," Professor Sussex said.
"This decision by the UK is probably something that Ukrainians hope starts a bit of a domino effect."

An alleged former commander with the Russian mercenary Wagner Group has sought asylum in Norway, authorities say, after deserting the organisation that has played a central role in some of the major battles of the Ukraine conflict.
Andrey Medvedev, 26, reportedly crossed the border into Norway near the Pasvikdalen valley shortly before 2am last Friday, where he was arrested and detained by border guards.

Huh, weird things I noticed about the above vlog.
1) That red water bottle he has on his computer desk is exactly the one I have on my computer desk.
2) That yellow smiley face squeezy ball on his desk is just like my blue smiley face squeezy ball on my desk.
Great minds think alike, I guess.

Germany will not keep Poland from sending tanks to Ukraine

Germany would not stand in the way if Poland sent its German-made Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said on Sunday in an interview with French television LCI.
Asked what would happen if Poland went ahead and sent its Leopard 2 tanks without German approval, Baerbock said: "For the moment the question has not been asked, but if we were asked we would not stand in the way."
"We know how important these tanks are and this is why we are discussing this now with our partners," the German foreign minister added. "We need to make sure people's lives are saved and Ukraine's territory liberated."

Russia’s ‘Elite’ Shadow Army Edges Into Complete Collapse

Tens of thousands of fighters rounded up to fight in Ukraine for Wagner Group, the Russian private mercenary fighting corps, have gone missing or died, according to a Russian non-governmental organization.
While Wagner Group recruited approximately 50,000 fighters in recent months, including from prisons, only 10,000 fighters remain fighting at the front for Wagner, Olga Romanova, the head of Russia Behind Bars, told My Russian Rights, according to The Moscow Times.
“According to our data, 42-43 thousand [prisoners] were recruited by the end of December. Now they are, most likely, already over 50,000,” Romanova said. “Of these, 10,000 are fighting at the front, because all the rest are either killed… or missing, or deserted, or surrendered.”
The statistic cited is just the latest indication that Wagner’s fighting force is falling apart in Ukraine, even as Russia works to secure wins on the battlefield almost one year after the invasion of Ukraine.
Wagner Group fighters have been involved in the heavy fighting in Soledar in recent weeks, a town in which Russia has claimed victory. Wagner has also been largely responsible for gains made in Bakhmut nearby, “at an extraordinary cost,” given that many of the Wagner recruits had minimal training since Wagner recruited 40,000 convicts, John Kirby, a White House National Security Council coordinator, told reporters last week.

An international push is underway to hold Russian President Vladimir Putin and his most senior allies criminally responsible for the war in Ukraine.
Key points:
Kyiv is calling for a special tribunal to prosecute Vladimir Putin and senior Russian leaders for the crime of aggression
The crime of aggression is described as the supreme international crime
Mr Putin will likely remain out of reach in Russia, but experts believe there is still value in pursuing him
Kyiv is calling for a special tribunal to prosecute them for the crime of aggression, considered the supreme international crime from which other war crimes follow.
A tribunal like this has not been held since senior German and Japanese leaders were tried in Nuremberg and Tokyo in the aftermath of World War II.

Television audiences in Crimea & the Belgorod region saw a speech from Ukrainian President Zelensky today when tuning into different Russian TV networks. Russian officials blame the Americans for giving Ukrainian intelligence agencies the hijacking tech.
Some TV channels in Crimea broadcast Volodymyr Zelensky's speech due to the hack. Now most of the vulnerabilities have been eliminated, Oleg Kryuchkov, adviser to the head of Crimea, said.
"At the beginning of the special operation, the Americans gave the Ukrainian special services access to all the programming codes of the most common "broadcasters" through which TV channels broadcast on the Internet. Cable operators often take a signal from the network. When it's bad at the front, the Ukrainians break the Internet broadcast. Most of the vulnerabilities have already been eliminated , soon they will not be left at all," Kryuchkov wrote in the Telegram channel.
Earlier, local residents on social networks published photos and videos of how Zelensky's appeal was shown on some TV channels instead of the usual programs.

1/ The Wagner Group's 'human wave' attacks, which have left the area around Bakhmut and Soledar strewn with the bodies of dead Wagner fighters, have been described in detail by a Russian source. It explains the brutal calculations behind Wagner's seemingly suicidal tactics. Image
2/ The 'Russian Criminal' website, which is linked to the VChK-OGPU Telegram channel, reports what a source – likely within Wagner – has told it about the mercenary group's approach to using recruited convicts to attack Soledar, sustaining huge casualties along the way.
3/ "The most experienced and well-prepared group of stormtroopers comes first, with excellent equipment. It's comprised of eight men, each with a 'Bumblebee' [possibly meaning an RPO-A Shmel thermobaric rocket launcher, effective against fortified positions].
4/ "Whatever happens, the group must reach the firing line. "Whatever happens" is not a turn of phrase, but a task, the failure to complete which will end in execution [by Wagner], regardless of any [mitigating] factors.
5/ "Once fire contact has been made [with the enemy], the group digs into positions. Digging in is taught as meticulously as combat operations, so by military standards, digging in is almost instantaneous and very effective.
6/ "The area the group has reached is marked (a rag on a tree or something similar). Even if the group is demolished to zero, the next one already realises where the previous one has reached. The main task is to make contact, dig in and transfer positional data to the artillery.
7/ "Artillery can fire from an hour to several hours. And here is the first cause of conflict with the [Russian] army: if there are not enough shells, instead of a successful attack you get hopeless meat from the stormtroopers.
8/ "The first group is followed by the second, also eight men, but with much lighter equipment. Their task is to jump into the positions as soon as the artillery shells finish their work.
9/ "Sometimes there is an order not to wait for the shelling to end – the 'Musicians' are so disciplined that they will go anyway, because they stand a fighting chance of surviving.
10/ "Nowadays there are not enough shells and because of that the first groups hardly survive – the main blow is coming at them and even training does not solve all the problems there.
11/ "Even before, losses in the first group were inevitable, but now the survivability of groups as a whole has fallen to critical values. And to replace them with just anyone increases costs even more, and the influx of people has now collapsed.
12/ "Groups of 8 people go in waves - usually 4 waves are prepared for the attack. But there have been cases in Soledar where it took 14 waves to take one area. Of course there were survivors, but the casualties were a hundred or more. That's for one section.
13/ "Groups have drone operators to lead the whole group into position to clear the area. At the same time, the lightly wounded do not slouch and do not lie down – for that, they could shoot you in the legs and leave behind.
14/ "This tactic is the only possible way to achieve results and advance in such conditions. The line of defense in Soledar has been cleverly constructed for years, the army command has neither the possibility nor the desire to advance there.
15/ "That's basically why the task was handed to Wagner.
From the outside, it may look unreasonable to take such a high casualty rate deliberately, but try to look at it in a different way: even 4 waves of 8 men – that is 32 men killed at the worst.
16/ "Throw in even a regiment – they will lose much more and even they will fail to cope with the task. In percentage terms they will lose less, but in absolute numbers, more. Therefore losses of over 50% for an attack are not bad, if there is a result.
17/ "There is much less manpower for assault groups now, shells are also in short supply. And if the artillery is suppressed, then no one will call the stormtroopers back anyway, they just mop up without cover.
18/ "If there are more groups in reserve, you can send in 5, and 6, and 7 waves, just to finish the result. This is not an army, here it is better to have more initiative than to underdo it.
19/ "The 'Musicians' have their own training – with a crazy intensity, if you are without experience – but they teach a very narrow range of tasks.
20/ "And the newcomers from the penal colonies are very well disciplined: first they are shown video executions, then very soon they encounter their first real examples, and then they get used to such discipline completely.
21/ "Another plus from this [in contrast to the Russian army] is that it is not the practice in Wagner to reassign those [qualified as] artillery gunners to the stormtroopers, unless as punishment. Good gunners are also worth their weight in gold.
22/ "The army will not be able to replace Wagner in hot areas, this is not even considered. In modern warfare, the number of soldiers is not an indicator at all. But, again, the question remains open – what to do about the shortage of shells (120 and 80 mm)?
23/ "There is a concept of "efficiency relative to the situation", and so this efficiency can be high, but if the situation is deadlocked, then the main issue is still not resolved.
24/ "Exchanging people for territory is beneficial when the territory is small and people in reserve are plentiful. If, on the other hand, you have to chop for every metre and people have become scarce, problems begin to arise.
25/ "As a result, losses are growing and progress slows down. The recruitment of convicts at first gave a full-flowing river of people, now they are gone. At the beginning of the war there was talk of Syrian mercenaries, some even came. But they are not fit for this war.
26/ "Among the 'Musicians' they say aloud that "we're about to put the squeeze on and take everything here." But among themselves, everyone expects that we will be removed from the assault on a number of directions.
27/ "And even if a large mobilisation begins right tomorrow, it will not be possible to immediately recruit refuseniks in the required numbers, but they still need to be run in, brought to the desired condition, …
28/ "because otherwise it will not even be possible to spend them effectively. It takes time, it takes a lot of shells. And we have neither one nor the other."

I highly recommend following Chris Owen. He's a British amateur military historian who wrote a massively-researched debunking of L. Ron Hubbard's claimed war record. Hubbard claimed, and the Church of Scientology has embellished his claims even further, to have more-or-less singlehandedly won the war with his brilliant strategic advice, despite near-fatal wounds that would have killed a lesser man.Suranis wrote: ↑Fri Feb 03, 2023 11:25 am https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1621 ... 75426.html

The reality is that many of the medals the CoS claimed he won weren't even invented until long after he retired from military service, he served mostly in menial administrative jobs, most of which he was fired from after being a pain in the ass. And when he was given command of a small coastal defense ship, he was hastily removed from command after dropping depth charges off the Oregon coast on an imaginary Japanese submarine (none were ever that close to the Oregon coast) and after shelling a Mexican island based on a delusional sighting of enemy something-or-other, causing an unnecessary international incident with a close ally.
Owen exposed all of the lies in incredible detail, with abundant evidence. This is critical to Scientology, because Hubbard wrote that his "discoveries" while recovering from his (nonexistent) combat wounds led to the discovery of "Dianetics" and later Scientology itself. Without the injuries received in combat, the whole story of the creation of the cult's self-help "technology" falls apart, taking with it the claim to scientific legitimacy at the heart of their beliefs.

In a secret location in Ukraine, within a vast warehouse that could be mistaken for a tank graveyard, what was once Russian – Soviet, in many cases – is being turned Ukrainian.

Top Putin Ally Says He ‘Will Not Hide’ Intention to Invade Poland Anymore
“After all, after Ukraine, Poland is on the map,” Ramzan Kadyrov said before announcing what seemed to be a made-up deadline for a Russian war victory.

Ramzan Kadyrov, a key ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has begun rattling off threats about attacking Poland after Ukraine.
Kadyrov, the head of Chechnya, suggested Monday that Russia should “denazify and demilitarize” Poland next.
“What if, after the successful completion of the NMD, Russia begins to denazify and demilitarize the next country? After all, after Ukraine, Poland is on the map! I will not hide that I personally have such an intention,” Kadyrov said on Telegram. “I personally have such an intention, and I have repeatedly stated that the fight against Satanism should continue throughout Europe and, first of all, on the territory of Poland.”
Kadyrov warned Tuesday that the time has come for the West to fall to its knees before Russia, predicting that the so-called “special military operation” in Ukraine, would be over by the end of 2023.
