A team at the Miami Herald seems to be doing terrific investigative journalism into the story of the DeSantis migrant flights. Their pieces always wind up behind a paywall, but they seem to be accessible in other locations, like aol.com. Latest below.

Paying off your contractors via dead drop behind a dumpster and a plane ticket out of town is always a sign of a very legal, very cool operation.

Merry Christmas!
More migrants dropped outside vice president’s home in freezing weather on Christmas Eve

Several busloads of migrants were dropped off in front of Vice President Kamala Harris’ residence in Washington, DC, on Christmas Eve in 18 degree weather late Saturday.

An initial two busloads were taken to local shelters, according to an administration official. More buses arrived outside the vice president’s residence later Saturday evening. A CNN team saw migrants being dropped off, with some migrants wearing only T-shirts in the freezing weather. They were given blankets and put on another bus that went to a local church.

Waiting to see if their genius plan consists of criticizing the VP for not having a manger at the ready or something.
But the sunshine aye shall light the sky,
As round and round we run;
And the truth shall ever come uppermost,
And justice shall be done.

Anywhere but Staten Island.

Queens was the home to the most diverse neighborhood in the US for many years, although I think it has now been pushed to second place by a ZIP in Texas.

MSNBC has a one hour special on the bus load to Martha’s Vineyard; it’s Sunday 10pm eastern time. I think Trever Noah exec produced it. It called “The Turning Point: Martha’s Vineyard v. DeSantis “

I'm from Queens. I always heard this about Jackson Heights, but never saw any hard statistics. Sites do say 160 languages are spoken in Jackson Heights. Anthony Bourdain did a Parts Unknown episode on Queens (!) and visited that neighborhood.

I turned up this report on a 2019 study that found Queens as a whole was the most diverse county in the continental US:
According to a new study by media company Axios, Queens is the third most diverse county in America and the most diverse county in the continental U.S.

Researchers said the study analyzed U.S. Census data to create a diversity index for each American county. The number represents the probability that two people chosen at random will be of a different race or ethnicity.

On average, two Americans chosen at random have a 57% chance of being of different backgrounds. In Queens, that probability jumps to 76%.

The only two counties that rank above Queens are Hawaii and Maui counties in Hawaii. Both have populations under 200,000, while Queens is home to more than 2 million people.

A small Queens neighborhood paper, the Queens Daily Eagle, had some fun running the story of TFG's first indictment under the headline "Queens Man Indicted".

In Bid to Slow Migrant Surge, Adams Restricts Bus Arrivals Into New York
In an executive order, Mayor Eric Adams required bus companies to provide advance notice of trips or face criminal charges.

Mayor Eric Adams placed limits for the first time on Wednesday on how migrants arrive in New York, pushing back against continuing efforts by the governor of Texas to send tens of thousands of asylum seekers to the city.

In an executive order, Mr. Adams required charter bus companies to provide 32 hours’ advance notice of the arrival of a busload of migrants in the city and limited the times of day at which migrants can be dropped off.

The change, a year and a half into a crisis that has consumed the Adams administration, comes after 14 busloads of migrants arrived from Texas in a single night last week, the highest total recorded since the spring of 2022.

“We cannot allow buses with people needing our help to arrive without warning at any hour of day and night,” Mr. Adams said during a virtual news conference with the mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson, and the mayor of Denver, Mike Johnston. “To be clear, this is not stopping people from coming, but about ensuring the safety of migrants and making sure they can arrive in a coordinated and orderly way.”
