Ya know, I've always enjoyed the 'body english' organists all seem to use, swaying back and forth as they stretch to the pedals one way and the stops the other (or whatever the reason).northland10 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 11:26 pm Sometimes short and rather simple pieces are a joy to play. This little one is a gem.
Almost like the face guitarists pull when they take their solo break.

In my head, all my past organ, voice, violin, and conducting teachers are screaming... stop it!!
I one time had a profession in a graduate conductor course come up after I finished conducting a piece in class (the choir was the rest of the class) and said, "that is a small podium, but you got a lot of mileage on it."

On this date in 1966, JEFFERSON AIRPLANE recorded SOMEBODY TO LOVE (November 15th 1966).
NOTE: The video here is the band's appearance on the Dick Cavett's "Woodstock" show in 1969, filmed just hours after the legendary festival had wrapped.
Joined onstage by fellow alumni DAVID CROSBY and surrounded by brightly dressed youths lounging on naugahyde cushions, Jefferson Airplane took their performance of “Somebody To Love” to strange new heights for this salute to Woodstock.
SOMEBODY TO LOVE was written by Grace Slick's brother-in-law, Darby Slick, in 1965. They were in a San Francisco band called The Great Society, which also included Jerry Slick, who was Grace's husband and Darby's brother (Jerry played drums; Darby played guitar). The Great Society released the song as a single in late 1965 with another Darby Slick composition, "Free Advice," on the B-side.
The single went nowhere, and when Darby started exploring Indian music in 1966, the group broke up and Grace joined Jefferson Airplane, which was already established. When she arrived at her new group, she came bearing hits: they recorded a new version of "Somebody To Love" and also did "White Rabbit," which she wrote as a member of The Great Society.
The original version of this song that Grace Slick sang with The Great Society was more subdued. With Jefferson Airplane she sounded far more accusatory and menacing when she belted out lines like "Your mind is so full of red" and "Your friends, baby, they treat you like a guest."

What is this "radio" of which you speak?
Honestly, I haven't listened to one of those in years... Even in car. Phone->Car Bluetooth.
I have no radio in my home. (Okay, the wifi devices are technically radios but that is not what we are talking about)

We still listen to radio.
Melbourne has 3 world beating stations, 2 rock and 1 news. Lots of other good stations, and even more crappy ones.
ABC National (part of the gov broadcaster network.) is a great news and current events, and 3RRR and 3PBS are superior rock and arts stations, financed by listener subscription, not commercials. And Melbourne radio is broadcast using DAB+ so the quality is superb.
Music in the car comes via a USB built from records and CDs I digitized myself.
We have never bothered to get any of the streamers.

Since the boss moved the office two years ago, my commute (depending on traffic flow) is all of 15-20 minutes top. Weekends are 5-10 minutes to the store, so the news radio works fine for those short trips (or local classic rock station on the weekends.AndyinPA wrote: ↑Sun Nov 20, 2022 3:20 pmIn the car.

What happens when you take an award-winning opera singer (who also does jazz), an award-winning bluegrass singer, and an award-winning multiple-style singer, all accompanied by Met Opera music director? You get a Jackson Browne song arranged by Carolyn Shaw.

In college, when preparing Verdi's Requiem, our director took great pains to tell us to be careful and not get into shouting on the Dies Irae. Yeah, like that was going to work once we got with the orchestra.
And if it is not already easy to shout at the beginning, it gets even easier with the Tuba Mirum section, with all that off-stage brass playing as well.
Don't sing louder than beautiful. So don't sing the Dies Irae from Verdi's Requiem.
