The New York Times obituary is charming, and has some interesting details, about the artist and Humphrey Bogart's mother, among other things. It's paywalled, but I think the NYT has gotten a little more generous with free articles lately.

I had never heard of Seals & Croft until I saw them at Fillmore East, opening for Procul Harum.

Found them an amiable listen, but overshadowed by PH, of which I was a big fan.

During their brief vogue in the next few years it was pleasant to be able to mention that I'd seen them in concert before they were famous.

Alas, Procol Harum lead singer Gary Brooker died of cancer in February of this year. Don't think we covered that here.

And I didn't remember ever hearing the name Procol Harum, but when I looked them up, I certainly was a fan of their A Whiter Shade of Pale.

Internet Explorer, star of Windows, dies at 26
https://www.theverge.com/2022/6/15/2316 ... retirement
Internet Explorer is dead. Microsoft is retiring IE today after nearly 27 years. The aging web browser is being sunset in favor of Microsoft Edge, with support being officially withdrawn for IE 11 today. It’s the end of an internet era, after Microsoft initially moved away from the Internet Explorer branding with the release of Windows 10 in 2015.

For consumers, not much changes. Usage of Internet Explorer has plummeted in recent years, with StatCounter showing IE has less than half a percent of overall browser market share. Microsoft has been trying to stop people from using Internet Explorer for years now, and the company previously labeled it a “compatibility solution” rather than a browser that businesses should actively be using.
I was curious. I did not know if they would actually find a way to kill the app on a local machine (probably did it in an update). I opened it a couple of times this evening. Sometimes it will actually go to MSN or it will go to a page saying.. use EDGE. When I tried to go to Google, it automatically opened Edge.

Firefox, Chrome and IE icons have been on the bottom of my screen for years. The IE icon was there the other day. Gone now.

eta: The loss of IE is giving my husband absolute fits at work. Comparable to the Y2K hoopla. He works for a Xerox company that deals with State Medicare and Medicaid and most of them still run IE. It's an all hands on deck scramble to get stuff to work. This is what happens when systems and programs and such never get updated because they "work fine."

Off Topic
For an excellent cover version of that song, listen to the Warren Haynes (Gov. mule) version from the “dub side of the Mule” deluxe album.

I was today years old when I heard that Annie Lennox did a "Whiter Shade of Pale" cover. Gotta go find it an give it a listen. I tired of listening to the same regurgitation of todays hearings anyway.

EDIT:

EDIT TOO: I'm not a fan of the video. It really detracts from the story in the song. Annie is good though, if you don't look at the video.

I studied Procul Harum's Whiter Shade of Pale in high school, in a class called Music Appreciation.

We studied it because the music was written by Johann Sebastian Bach.
