Cut 1000 staff? Let the disinformation bots ready to register their accounts. Nobody there to prevent that. Nor will any accounts get reinstated after namecalling Musk a bimbo....

Re: Twitter
Musk is a modern-day P. T. Barnum, only with more substance.
He is like an adolescent with a new toy. (We've owned Teslas since 2014. We've seen how the company has evolved from those early years. It is a company that is not consumer-friendly. You cannot reach them by telephone, except when you order a new car and have yet to take delivery. Service is sketchy; it depends mostly on the locals at the various locations. They can be devious and deceitful in pursuit of stock price and bottom line. That said, if you have never driven a fully electric vehicle, you are in for a real treat.)
Once he acquires Twitter and makes his ideas known to his minions, he will quickly lose interest. He'll insist on doing things his way, and fie on anyone who disagrees or who claims that his ideas are bull. Expect a lot of turnover early on until he gets just the right lackeys in place to do his bidding. He will be in and out with his management style.
Will Twitter start making oodles of money under his leadership? Yeah, sure, but only at the cost of tearing down what little fabric there is on that site in order to obtain obscene profits.

SAN FRANCISCO — Elon Musk said he would reverse Twitter’s ban on former president Donald Trump.
Musk, the Tesla CEO who is soon to own Twitter, said it was a mistake for the website to ban the former president.
“I think it was a morally bad decision to be clear and foolish in the extreme,” he said at a Future of the Car event hosted by the Financial Times.

Re: Twitter
I guess someone very soon will have "the speak" with Musk and tell him that a disinformation platform will be bad for his ad revenue. Not that the former guy has any power left in him to troll the platform in the early hours of the day. He folded like a wet rag when his own truthless platform became available.

Re: Twitter
If the DFO’s Twitter ban is overturned I would expect him to start posting “Truths” that will be automatically echoed on an account on Twitter.
I’ve always believed that the vast majority of people “following” him on Twitter did so for entertainment, so it’s likely he would quickly re-establish a sizeable audience he knows is not forthcoming on Truth Social. As to how long this would this would benefit Twitter and whether Truth Social would end up with one user, I have no idea.

Re: Twitter
Twitter fires two executives and freezes most hiring after Musk’s deal to buy the company.
An internal memo shared with employees said the platform’s general manager and general manager for revenue would be departing.
By Mike Isaac

SAN FRANCISCO — Twitter’s chief executive fired two top executives, froze most new hiring and said he was slashing spending on Thursday, as the social media company tries to change its business trajectory while grappling with a takeover from Elon Musk, the world’s richest man.
In a memo shared with employees and obtained by The New York Times, Parag Agrawal, Twitter’s chief executive, said the company was pausing most hiring and pulling back on discretionary spending, though it was not planning layoffs. The moves stemmed partly from Twitter not hitting goals in audience and revenue growth, Mr. Agrawal wrote.
Kayvon Beykpour, Twitter’s general manager, and Bruce Falck, the general manager for revenue, are leaving, the memo said. Mr. Beykpour is being replaced by Jay Sullivan, the interim general manager of consumer product, the memo said.
“It’s critical to have the right leaders at the right time,” Mr. Agrawal said in the memo. He added that Twitter had decided at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 to invest aggressively in growth, but “as a company we did not hit intermediate milestones that enable confidence in these goals.”
Mr. Beykpour and Mr. Falck said on Twitter that they had been fired by Mr. Agrawal. Mr. Falck later appeared to delete his tweet.
Brian Poliakoff, a Twitter spokesman, confirmed the memo and Mr. Agrawal’s changes. He declined to comment further.

“Elon Musk puts Twitter deal on hold over fake account details”:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-61433724
“He said he was waiting for information "supporting [the] calculation that spam/fake accounts do indeed represent less than 5% of users".
Mr Musk has been vocal on cleaning up spam accounts.
However, analysts speculated he could be seeking to renegotiate the price or even walk away from the takeover.
Following Mr Musk's tweet, Twitter shares fell as much as 25% in pre-market trading.
Under the terms of the deal, if either Twitter or Mr Musk walk away they must pay the other side a termination fee of $1bn.”

Re: Twitter
Yep. The very idea that he suddenly discovered that there are a large amount of Fake accounts on Twitter. What a load of nonsense.
There are a number of possibilities
(a) he never intended to buy Twitter in the first place. His crappy faith based plans for the platform might have been an attempt to make sure that he never got funding (allowing him to complain loudly about how great it would have been, too bad, so sad) and found himself scuppered when the financiers actually went for it. Or he just wanted a lot of attention and it was now getting to the "actually do work" part of it, so the game is played out.
(b) Someone had "the talk" with him about how he cant unblock accounts without exposing Twitter to lawsuits. Libertarian bollox met hard reality.
(c) He actually does not have the money. The Financiers might have quietly said to him that his comments about unblocking the account of a fat blob mean they are walking. Or some other financial calamity has occurred.
(d) He might have seen the actual financial state of Twitter and run away screaming.
I wonder how the fat blob will try and make it about him, especially after he publicly started chasing the Twitter car rather than his Truth social at the merest suggestion that he might get back on it.

Musk Says His Twitter Takeover Is ‘On Hold,’ Then Says He’s ‘Still Committed’
Mr. Musk said he wanted to confirm Twitter’s findings that spam and fake accounts make up less than 5 percent of its users.
By Adam Satariano and Lauren Hirsch
May 13, 2022 Updated 12:31 p.m. ET
Already one of the most unusual corporate takeover attempts in modern business, Elon Musk’s $44 billion bid to buy Twitter got a little weirder on Friday.
First, in a pre-dawn tweet, Mr. Musk said the deal was on hold. He said he wanted more details about the volume of spam and fake accounts on the platform.
Then, about two hours later, Mr. Musk tweeted again. He was “still committed” to the acquisition, he said, without providing any more details.
The seemingly contradictory messages left many wondering whether Mr. Musk was getting cold feet, trying to drive down the acquisition price or looking for a bit of attention. Perhaps it was some combination of the three. Twitter’s stock yo-yoed in response to his posts.
As with many things involving Mr. Musk, it was hard to know his thinking. He did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The announcements marked the latest chapter in an unfolding corporate saga that has raised questions about free speech online and the ramifications of putting the world’s richest person in charge of one of the most influential social media platforms. Mr. Musk has pledged to loosen the company’s content moderation policies. On Tuesday, he said he would lift a ban on former President Donald J. Trump.
While most acquisitions of this scale are handled in a certain choreographed manner, Mr. Musk has opted for a more improvisational approach. He conducted limited due diligence on the deal before charging ahead, and said during an interview at a conference in April that he did not care about the particulars of Twitter’s finances.
On Friday, Mr. Musk demonstrated how his whims can influence the deal making.
In his initial tweet, Mr. Musk made reference to a May 2 regulatory filing by Twitter that included an estimate that fewer than 5 percent of Twitter’s users were spam and fake accounts. He had previously said that ridding the platform of fake accounts, bots and spam would be one of his top priorities after taking over.

Re: Twitter
Twitter will always be having a free tier supported by ads, number of ads likely to increase as to coerce a subscription. There will likely be several subscription models. Like companies paying big bucks for an enterprise subscription that will allow its customers unhampered access. Free accounts will also remain outside the US where even a small $amount would lock out participation.

Re: Twitter
I am just wondering if the state of Texas just provided the shareholders with a poison pill against Elon Musks takeover plan. The fresh legislation against service provider censure provides the huge risk of years long litigation against Twitter (among others) that should project very negatiely on the financial future.

Whoever thought owning the libs would be cheap never tried to acquire a social media company!
Replying to @elonmusk
You know what is cheap? NOT owning a Tesla.
So good luck with this savvy marketing to the demo that used to buy your cars, Elon.

Hmmm…. An interesting thought would be that Elon had noted that many right wingers would “die before they owned and electric car” (seriously, I have heard that more than once in rural Michigan) and this own-the-libs thing is hoping to place Tesla as a symbol of elite conservatism???

TX doesn't seem to mind making IG shut out TX users, though.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/meta-no-more ... 07015.htmlIf you’re from Texas or Illinois and love to apply Instagram filters to the photos of your travels or any other event, this may be bad news for you. After being sued by Texas for violating the state’s privacy protection for personal biometric data in February, Meta, the parent organization of Facebook and Instagram, started on Wednesday (May 11) to disable the use of certain Instagram filters in Texas. The lawsuit was filed by Attorney General Ken Paxton. Meta is doing the same procedures in the state of Illinois.

The FCC has fundamentally changed over the last two decades, been stripped of much of its power, and had lost sight of its mission. It now merely charges rent for spectrum, and doesn't care how it's used. And it's not culpable for it's own mistakes.tek wrote: ↑Mon May 02, 2022 5:11 pm Fast-tracked Trump appointee opens his mouth why?
Nominated in September, Simington's Senate approval was fast-tracked, with an expected confirmation hearing expected to be held before the end of December. In October, Trump urged an expedited process, tweeting, “Republicans need to get smart and confirm Nate Simington to the FCC ASAP!”
The confirmation hearing was scheduled for November 10, considered near-record time, shortly after the 2020 United States elections. The day before his confirmation hearing, President Trump tweeted that he "wanted action NOW on this very important confirmation hearing!" He underwent his first confirmation hearing before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation on November 10, 2020. According to Bloomberg Law, he was met with a generally mixed response, including only "lukewarm support" from Republican members, casting doubts as to whether he could be confirmed before President-Elect Joseph Biden would assume office.
On December 8, 2020, the full United States Senate confirmed his nomination by a 49–46 vote. Simington assumed office on December 14, 2020.

Former President Donald Trump is back on Twitter.
His messages from his own operation, Truth Social, are now being posted under the new Twitter profile “President Donald J. Trump’s Truth Social Posts.”
The description for the account @PresTrumpTS adds: “President Donald J. Trump’s Truth Social Posts on Twitter — Making sure President Trump is heard on Twitter while he and Devin Nunes focus on Truth Social.”
The tweets available Monday included 210 messages Trump has posted on Truth Social since February, which are now also tailored to Twitter. Each tweet pleads: “Please Follow and Retweet.”
