We now know the baby's name!
Last name is our SIL's last name hyphenated with our daughter's last name.
First name is that of a 20th Century folk singer.
The middle name is......... my very rare middle name.
So now there are once again two of us in the USA with that name.
Since the death of my father I have been the only USA person bearing that name. My great grandfather, grandfather, father and I have kept this name alive since 1844. It has been just me since 1983.
Going forward I will have some help.
Last name is our SIL's last name hyphenated with our daughter's last name.

Preliminary paperwork is signed. Baby will be released from hospital tomorrow to our daughter and SIL.
They will stay the night with our SIL's family and then return to Dallas. Baby has an appointment with their Dallas pediatrician Thursday morning.

The recent rains here have filled the reservoirs to 66.8%. For the moment this ends the drought watch. 
However we will need much more rain to get thru the long hot summer.

This coming weekend is Falls Con here. Falls Con is a gaming event founded by our SIL several years ago. People come from all over including our SIL's brother down from Colorado.
We however won't be here since we are going down to Houston for week.

U.S. Border Patrol has quietly transported about 100 migrants this month on two charter flights from Plattsburgh, New York, near the border with Canada, to the Texas cities of Harlingen and El Paso.
The southbound flights from the northern border are a break from past practice as the United States deals with a sharp rise in migrants crossing illegally from Canada, current and former officials told Reuters.
At the same time, asylum seekers have been crossing from the United States into Canada in record numbers, straining resources. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has pledged to raise migration issues with U.S. President Joe Biden during meetings in Ottawa on Thursday and Friday.

Mrs. V and I are in Houston for a week.
Our SIL and his brother are at Falls Con this weekend.
So our daughter has the house to herself.
She also gets to take care of the cats.

Yesterday had dinner with Mrs. V's long time Houston area music friends. This had been planned before the birth of our new adopted grandbaby.
The friends had changed the focus of the event into a grandbaby shower with our daughter and grandbaby attending via Zoom.
So we now have a minivan full of lightly used baby clothes, books, toys etc. (One of the friends has 7 fairly recent grandbabies.)
We were already bringing baby things to our younger daughter and SIL in Dallas on our drive back to WF. Now we have a lot more. Some of the items will go with us to WF so that when new grandbaby visits us there there will be a crib and a playpen etc waiting for him.
Music friends also gifted grandbaby his first recorder.

Nearing the end of our Houston trip.
Medical side of the trip a bit of a bust. The national medical lab overlooked one page of our tests so our annual review has been postponed. we went in first thing this morning so more blood could be drawn. Will do a teledoc session when those results come back.
We have only been gone since August 2020 but the city has changed quite a bit. The indoor mall is gone.
Just a large open field is left.
The big hospital is now much bigger.
Some of the petrochemical plants are also much bigger.
New fancy hotel down by the marina is almost finished. That only took 25 years.
The amount of open farmland continues to shrink.
After seeing the changes Mrs. V said she has no desire to move back. Wichita Falls is growing on her.

WFPD officers responded to Scotland Park Elementary School at approximately 8:47am to investigate a man attempting to enter the building. The caller stated the subject had broken a window and made entry to the building. The first WFPD officer arrived on scene within three minutes from when the call was placed. The subject was located outside the building next to a double-paned window and quickly placed into custody by multiple WFPD officers. The subject DID NOT make entry into the building.
The subject was released to WFISD PD officers to make the arrest. This is an isolated event and being investigated by WFISD Police Department.
We are extremely proud of the urgent response by our officers and the partnership we share with WFISD Police Department in keeping the children safe.

Summer is here.
It is 47F just now but this afternoon the high will be 90F with winds gusting to 26 mph and we will be under a red flag warning.
Tomorrow we will be under a fire weather watch.
Meanwhile recent brief but intense periods of rain have filled our reservoirs to 66% so the 1st stage drought rules have been lifted at least for now.

Today's fire weather watch has been upgraded to a red flag warning. Highs near 90F. Relative humidity in the teens.
Also a wind advisory for gusts up to 50 MPH. If grass fires ignite they may spread quickly.
