“We had no end in sight and suddenly, all of a sudden we had turned COVID into a preventable disease” United Regional marks one year since first COVID vaccine

https://www.texomashomepage.com/news/lo ... m=referral
December 18th, 2020 marked a milestone in Wichita Falls. That’s when the very first COVID-19 vaccinations arrived in town [and] United Regional began giving those on the front lines the vaccine for the first time.

Now health care workers, who were among the very first to get vaccinated are reflecting on the progress made.

:snippity:

“It was the first time from the time the pandemic started we felt we went from a defensive position to an offensive position we actually had something now that we could give ourselves and give our patients,” Betts said.

:snippity:

At last check 96% of United Regional staff are currently vaccinated or have an approved exemption [and] as holidays arrive, 43% of Wichita County residents are fully vaccinated as of this week.

Just east of Texoma-

Fish fall from the sky during rainstorm in eastern Texas

https://www.newschannel6now.com/2021/12 ... LoV8ITsnA0
Several residents in east Texas have reported seeing fish all over the ground after they apparently fell from the sky during a rainstorm Wednesday.

:snippity:

According to The City of Texarkana, animal rain happens when small water animals like fish, frogs and crabs are swept up in waterspouts or drafts that happen on the surface.

Then, those small animals fall back to the ground with the rain.

According to KSLA, multiple instances of animal rain have been reported around the world.

A very cold start to Thursday, reminiscent of this past weekend as temperatures fall into the teens tomorrow morning. Strong wind gusts will allow for wind chills in the negatives as wind chill advisories are in place for southwest Oklahoma from 3:00 am to 10:00 am.
Darn. My next physical therapy session is tomorrow at 9:30 am. I really have to wear short pants for that. No place to put a coat at the PT facility. Have to shiver walking to and from the car. :?

Wichita County has administered more than 133,354 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, as of Jan. 4, according to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services.
The county has about 133,500 residents so we are a long way from where we should be.

Our SIl the lawyer is 55 miles away this afternoon in another county's courthouse a he rushes to wind down his court-appointed practice before starting as a public defender here on Monday. One thing is certain about the change, his miles driven in a week will be reduced since the local county courthouse is only 4 miles away from our home.

Republican Don Huffines promises Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl win if he’s elected governor

https://www.texomashomepage.com/news/te ... ource=t.co
During the January 2nd telecast of the Dallas Cowboys game, viewers in Texas saw an ad paid for by the Don Huffines Campaign, where Huffines himself promises a Super Bowl win for the Cowboys if he’s elected Governor.

“When I’m your Republican Governor, Texas will stop the illegal invasion at our border. And I’m not asking permission from the federal government. We will put prayer back in our schools, restore our culture, and the Cowboys would get another ring,” Huffines said in the ad.

Huffines said that Texans should take him seriously.

Today is our SIL's first day on the job at the public defender's office.

However, he was unable to do any of the new hire paperwork because the entire HR department is out with Covid or in quarantine because of exposure to the HR folk who have Covid. :?

His office is downtown just 1 1/2 blocks from the county courthouse and 4 miles from here. (Of course nothing in Wichita Falls is very far away from anything else in WF. ;) )
