Another nice cool clear day for the holiday but very breezy.

Forecast high for tomorrow is only 63F.

Local radio weather report says that the wind is from Canada!

Probably bringing the smoke with it.

We've had it here for about the last week. Not very noticeable, but otherwise sunny days a bit hazy.

Tree service started just North of our circle at 8am this morning. They are still cutting.

This morning the cottage 2 doors east of us is getting tree work. Meanwhile the tree work that started yesterday continues to our north.

Last weekend for Memorial Day the traffic here was overwhelming. Then temperatures increased during the week. Thursday and Friday were beautiful.

Then last night a cold front came thru. Today it is cloudy with a forecast high of 59F. Traffic is light. Not a bit of red on the traffic map.

Of course the public schools here don't get out for another couple of weeks. Traffic will no doubt return then.

After a cloudy cool windy weekend warmer sunny weather is here as most folks return to work it being Monday.

Traffic was so light yesterday that the local Oldies radio station kept mentioning that fact.

Waiting for our handyman to arrive to work on the deck.

Pressure treated lumber isn't what it once was. After only 11 years some of the boards are rotting.

Mrs. V and her cousin from the DC area who also has a cottage on the Circle have gone over to West Hampton which should be quiet today.

Later going to get our 6th Covid vaccine shots at CVS.

Our younger daughter, her husband and the new grandson will visit here the first 2 weeks in August. Mrs. V has already been buying baby items so as to minimize how much they will have to bring on the plane. Still need to get a car seat.

Podiatrist and optician for me on Wednesday. Guess I will have to wash my feet.

For several days now we have been getting haze from the fires in eastern Canada.

We are under an air quality advisory until midnight tonight. Cough, cough.

For those concerned about the east end's lack of traffic this past weekend, rush hour traffic has been bad yesterday and today. The North and South Forks need to have heavy traffic and bad air so visitors from NYC will feel at home.

Earlier, we had air quality alerts because of the fires from western Canada. Since yesterday, we have them from eastern Canada, too.

One of the "Layers" available on Google Maps now is Air Quality. Give it a try.

Thunder! Will rain follow?

THUNDER!! I have left the porch and gone inside.

I hnope it's not one of those dry storms they are talking about, thunder and lightning with little rain, chance of setting off fires from lightning strikes.

Raining here now.

Warmer tomorrow.

Local Oldies radio station broadcasting warnings not to exercise or do strenuous work outside tomorrow due to Canadian smoke and warmer dry weather.

Wind came from the SW late last night so the haze is much reduced this morning.

Wind now from the north so the air quality alert remains in effect today.

Yesterday I went to the podiatrist to get my toenails taken and then to the optician to order my new glasses. My lenses in addition to being triphocals also have prisms. These have to be custom ground. Our Texas optician gave up and refunded my payment. The optician here on the NoFo made my last pair last summer so I brought the prescription to them. Two to four weeks. Mrs. V took her simple prescription to Costco and got hers in a few days.

I am still not ready to risk strabimus surgery.

As we approach the weekend the lawnmowers have returned.

Our lawn service should be here later today but they get us done in 10 minutes. The do it yourself mowers take hours.

Expecting our handyman today to start replacing boards on the deck. Then he will stain it.

Once the deck is done we can put the furniture back on it and he can start cleaning the patio.

Many visitors coming in July and August so we need to get ready.

Air much clearer this morning.

Handyman came yesterday. We went over the deck board by board. Then he went and bought the lumber which now rests on the patio next to the deck.

Plan is to install the new lumber today and then give it time to dry a bit for about a week before staining.

Then he will stain the wooden deck and patio furniture to match.

Once all the furniture can be moved to the deck he will work on cleaning the patio pavers which are red but now look gray due to a winter's accumulation of sand.

Mrs.V wants to paint the inside Main stairway. Cats will have to spend time in the little cottage and we will have to use the kitchen stairs while she does this.

Air quality alert has been lifted.

Last weekend was gray cold and wet. This weekend is sunny, warm and dry. Expecting traffic to become red in a couple of hours.

Handyman replaced the rotting deck floor boards yesterday. He will return today to do the railings.

It may Sunday but a lawn service is mowing around a cottage on the other side of the Circle.

The Golden Earthworm is 1 mile from our cottage. We used to have a CSA subscription with them but dropped it due to Covid. It was more vegetables than we could eat anyway.

NoFo labor shortages continue.

Just now the owner of our lawn service arrived to put down fertilizer. Can't get enough workers so he has to do it himself.

His weekly lawn crews used to have 3 workers but since Covid there are only 2 workers.

Spoke with him briefly. He visited Guatemala back in March. Very hot and no rain. Corn crops failing.

Yes, the NoFo has many Guatemalan immigrant workers but we could use more. There is a Guatemalan Consulate just 3 miles from our cottage.
