After the original owners lost it due to legal problems it was a doctor's home and office for many years. Later it was converted into apartments.

Beautiful. Such a loss.

After years of serving up mouthwatering burgers, chili, corn fritters and other crowd-pleasing fare, an iconic North Fork eatery will close Sunday as O'Mally's serves its last customers.
According to Steve Pablatos, who manages the eatery — owned by Jimmy and Kelly Kokotas — the restaurant was sold. A new location of Senor Taco Mexican Grill will be opening at the site, located at 44780 Route 48.
Senor Taco confirmed the news and said the goal is that the restaurant will reopen sometime in the spring; Senor Taco also has locations in Wading River, Mt. Sinai, and Holbrook.
O'Mallys was purchased from former owner Phil Mannino — who'd helmed the spot since 2001 — by the Kokotas family in 2014. The Kokotas family has other businesses in Brooklyn, Pablatos said.

Even in my liberal state, and in a liberal county, I see far too many people ignoring the mandatory wearing of masks in public places. And you just know that the non-maskers are also anti-vaxxers. I avoid them. But people just have to do their family holiday meetings, so it's inevitable.Volkonski wrote: ↑Sat Dec 18, 2021 3:13 pm RiverheadLOCAL

The worst part is that the anti-vax non-maskers will of course clog the hospitals in the liberal counties, because the conservative counties can't handle that many COVID sick people.

Peconic Bay Scallops Can Be Found, In Limited Supply, At A Price
There aren't many to be had but yes, Virginia, there is a Peconic Bay scallop Santa Claus: The delectable bites are available — for a price.

Guess I won't be eating Peconic Bay scallops anytime soon. So sea scallops it is. Frozen, from South America.

Wow! Before the shortages of the last 3 years we thought $20 a lb was a high price. In November, fans of the mouthwatering Peconic Bay scallops were disappointed once again when the season turned out to be less-than-stellar, with few scallops available.
But on social media, photos of the elusive, delectable morsels began appearing more widely this week. Some local fish markets say they've had the beauties all along this year — although in far fewer numbers than in past years.
Peconic Bay scallops range from $50 to $55 a lb. on the North Fork and up to $82 per lb. on the South Fork, according to Charlie Manwaring, owner of the Southold Fish Market.
Scallops are steeped in both North Fork history and in beginnings of the family business, Homan said.

Wow! Just at HEB and king crab legs were $63/lb. Bought the lobster instead.
Re: Meanwhile on the North Fork...........
I ordered chicken wings last night. It was the first time the restaurant has had it in a year. When I said I wanted the wings, he warned me the price had gone up. It went from about $11/dozen to $17/dozen. We probably won't be taking it out again too soon.

With COVID-19 cases rising across the region, Northwell Health has temporarily suspended all visitation at all its hospitals, including Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead.
“These steps are being taken to maintain the safety of our patients and care teams,” the health system said in a message posted to its social media this afternoon.
“Limited exceptions are made when clinically indicated for the care of the patient,” the statement said.

Total patients in Suffolk County hospitalized rose to 544 on Monday — a 246% increase from the beginning of the month when the number stood at 157.
Just over 24,000 new cases were recorded in Suffolk over a one-week period from Dec. 22-28 —an average of more than 3,400 per day as the omicron variant fuels a vast spread even among those who are vaccinated.
New York has continued to set new records for daily cases and again hit a new mark on Tuesday with 67,090 cases for a positivity rate of 18.5%. Suffolk County set its own record on Tuesday with 4,577 new cases. It marked the fourth time in the last week that the county set a new single-day record for cases.
The county’s positivity rate now stands at 17.6% on a seven-day average.
