I wish shark crap was the problem.

The bacteria comes from poorly treated human crap. The bacteria is fed by fertilizer runoff from all the perfectly manicured waterfront lawns.

The problem goes beyond closed beaches. Fishing , clamming, etc areas also get closed which puts commercial fishing operations out of business.

Here we are, surrounded by salt water, but the local seafood shops are selling seafood from Canada and South America. :(

Mrs.V's DC cousin's daughters and their families head back to the DC area today. :(

The cousin and her husband will head home on the 23rd so Mrs.V will lose her shopping buddy.

Our NC niece and her family and a friend will head home on Saturday. :( Last night we all had an 8 person cookout which looks to be the last big family meal this season. We ate in our dining room due to intermittent rain.

Weather now thru the weekend will be perfect. I think we have seen the last of the +90F heat this year.

One home uses as much as 4 million gallons a year. A Hamptons estate uses 17 million of gallons a year, Pokorny said.
That's a lot of wasted water.

Our 6 visitors left yesterday to return to North Carolina. Mrs. V's cousin from near DC and her husband leave Tuesday.

Still 2 weeks to Labor Day and the Circle is getting empty already. :(

Acorns have started falling.

On the North Fork we are in moderate drought. The South Fork is in severe drought. Might get 0.1" of rain tonight.

One of Mrs. V's close friends from our former Texas city will be coming up to spend a long weekend here starting Thursday. This is not exactly a surprise because we have been expecting her, her husband and son to come visit this summer but things kept getting in the way on their end. Husband got a new job, son was ill, etc. So she is coming up alone.

Rain!

Ok, light rain but it is forecast to last all day.

The local Oldies station has already measured 0.25"

Won't make much of a dent since we are 7" below normal rainfall but every drop helps.

Heavy but not very large thunderstorm coming thru right now. Only affecting the North Fork.

Guess the handyman who will being repairing our outdoor shower will not be coming this morning. ;)

The rain ended. The sun appeared. The humidity dropped.

So the lawnmowers have come out. :(

Man here working on the outside shower has removed the side panels and is now powerwashing the frame which is very noisy. :notlistening:

He will replace the old wood panels with plastic.

As we approach Labor Day folks are crowding onto the east end for the last days of peak summer.

The local Oldies station is playing lots of summer themed music. Beach Boys, 1960s beach party movie themes, etc.

Yesterday Mrs. V and her visiting friend from the Texas Gulf Coast went down to the Shinnecock Inlet for lunch but had to eat at the bar because there was a 30 minute wait for a table.

The next two weeks will be very busy. Some folks will take off next week so they can be off work for a week plus Labor Day. Other folks take off the week after next so with Labor Day they can get a whole week off but only use 4 of their vacation days.

Whichever week they take off many of them head here to the North Fork.

Once we are past Labor Day week there will be 2 to 3 weeks of relative quiet before the Fall's dreaded pumpkin traffic begins. :?

High rip current risk for the entire south shore of Long Island this weekend.

Otherwise great beach weather. Just stay away from deep water.

A quiet afternoon here. Mrs. V is in her music room in a Zoom meeting of her national recorder group after which there will be a board of directors meeting. Mrs. V is the board secretary.

Mrs. V's visiting friend is on her laptop in the dining room.

The guy fixing the outside shower is putting up the sidewalls.

I am on the downstairs porch posting on The Fogbow. ;)

Both Mrs. V and her friend went to a South Fork ocean beach yesterday after lunch. Both are feeling a bit sore today because the waves were a bit high.

Here on the upstairs porch the peace of the evening is spoiled by a loud outdoor party to the west. :( Low quality live music. Shouting.

Won't surprise me if they start to set off fireworks.

Happily these parties are not a frequent thing.

Today the local Oldies radio station is broadcasting live from the Southold American Legion Classic Car Show here on the North Fork.

A bit depressing that I remember when many of these classics were brand new. :?

Next Saturday the station will be broadcasting from the Shinnecock Indian Nation's Annual Pow Wow on the South Fork.

Then the schools will reopen and things will be more quiet during the week but the weekend dreaded pumpkin traffic is just a few weeks away.
