On the South Fork at nature preserve getting to know some Canadian geese. They are totally unafraid of me.

Went to the dentist yesterday for the first time since the pandemic began.

They observed good Covid protections, wait in car until they call you in, take your temperature, have you fill out a questionnaire, wear a face mask when they are not working on you, etc.

Almost 2 years with no cleaning means that I need deep descaling. The 1st session was scheduled for this morning.

Got up early and was almost ready to go when the dentist's office called. My hygienist was in a car accident on her way to work this morning. She'll be OK but won't be in to work today.

I'll be on the waiting list starting Monday.

Our daughter flies back to Texas today.

We will bring the things she bought to Texas when we go. We also have things to bring down that our other daughter bought earlier in the summer.

Volkonski's friendly delivery service, that's us. ;)

Garbage truck is here.

European American Waste Disposal Corp has a special small truck that can squeeze thru our narrow private road.

Lots of narrow private roads in this area.

And with that the Circle will likely be quiet until the UPS and FedEx trucks show up in the afternoon.

Also expecting a cesspool guy who will inspect the cesspool on the little cottage Mrs. V owns with her middle brother. The concrete cover is badly cracked and the makers of concrete covers don't make that size anymore. Probably have to be creative.

Mrs.V's cousin (who lives down by the bay) and her husband are traveling for 3 weeks. We get to have their CSA vegetable shares for those weeks.

Mrs.V is out now to pick it up and get our daughter a last bagel before her flight.

Our daughter became ill on the way to the airport. At the airport Mrs. V was able to cancel her flight and get a partial refund.

Daughter now feeling better. Rescheduled on the same flight tomorrow.

I suspect that last bagel sandwich.

Another beautiful North Fork day.

To the west a woodpecker is hard at work.

Mrs. V is up Island at a recorder society meeting. Everyone there had to show proof of vaccination in order to register.

Traffic on Main Road is light so far despite the fine weather.

The original plan was that I would drive our daughter to the airport this afternoon because Mrs. V drove up Island to her meeting this morning.

However, Mrs.V had first planned to go shopping after her meeting at some stores we don't have on the North Fork.

So Mrs. V decided to do the airport run and shop after that.

Meanwhile I am laundering the bed linen our daughter used.

Our neighbor's daughter was up early today raking and mowing his lawn. She is a wonderful daughter but should strive to mow later on a Sunday morning. ;)

She is now getting ready to go home to her apartment up Island. She is a teacher and so needs to get ready for Monday.

Yesterday the winds were calm. The day before was blustery.

Today we're back to blustery. Our wind chimes are working overtime. The one next to my rocker on the downstairs porch keeps repeating the 1st three notes of Taps. ;)

A daughter and granddaughter and the caretaker of our neighbor to the right are putting up his acorn protection tent over his driveway.

Autumn must be coming. ;)

He has 2 large oak trees that hang over the driveway.

The veterinarian 2 cottages down from them whom we have known since he was a boy is mowing his lawn.

A busy Sunday in the Circle.

Our regular parking spot is well away from our oak trees.

Watching them put up the tent put me in mind of the tent raising scene in "Dumbo ". They don't have any elephants however. ;)

And the tent is up!

Upstairs porch report.

Our neighbor's pole light by his driveway is very bright to the point of being annoying. :(

His acorn tent blocks it completely from my view.

One of the many unfortunate side effects of progress: it used to be that a good shot with a BB gun could easily take care of annoying lights like that. But now that bright outdoor lights tend to be arrays of hundreds of LEDs, it's a bit tougher to render them dark when desired and when neighbors are uncooperative.

Metal poles are a bit challenging, though perhaps less so than ever before. A decent plasma cutter can be bought from Harbor Freight for a few hundred dollars, that would go through your average steel pole in a minute or two, but it'd be hard to get a heavy enough extension cord to pump 50 amps through 100' or 200' from your house to the target pole to be able to take it down.

Even if you solve the plasma cutter power cord issue, there's the small matter of stealth. Me trying to pull neighborhood sneaky stuff would be about like that scene where stealth ninja Bluto was casing the administration building in Animal House:

Mrs.V's friend arrived yesterday afternoon. After visiting a while she decided to take us up on our offer to have dinner and stay the night.

She texted a coworker to let her know that she might be in a little late this morning due to the legendary westbound traffic on the Long Island Expressway.

Her coworker never texted a reply.

When she got into work this morning she learned that her coworker had a stroke yesterday and is in the hospital. :(

Seems we have been seeing a lot of death and serious health problems among family, friends and acquaintances this summer.

Our older SIL, the lawyer, has a jury trial this week which is unusual for him. Sexual assault of a child 14 years or younger.

Now in jury selection. He is finding it stressful. :( As are some of the prospective jurors.

He has interviewed recently for jobs with the county that would not involve criminal defense. I hope he gets one of those.
