Our Unitarian Universalist Fellowship reopened today for inside services for the first time since shutting down in the spring of 2020. Mrs. V went.

There are only a few members so social distancing was easy.

We will see how this works.

Cross Sound Ferry Vessel Earns 'Ship Of The Year' Honor
The Cape Henlopen has a rich history – the ferry is one of the few vessels that served in World War II that's still in service.

The Ship of the Year Award is given in recognition of a significant milestone or any accomplishment contributing to the historical importance of the engine-powered vessel, the Cross Sound Ferry explained.

"The Cape Henlopen has the honor of being one of the oldest operating ferries in the world and one of the few ships who served in World War II still in active service," the Cross Sound Ferry said.

One of the highlights of the ferry's service was participating in the invasion of Normandy on D-Day, dropping off 200 men and 70 vehicles of the 29th Infantry Division and taking on wounded men for treatment, the Cross Sound Ferry said.

The vessel was used throughout the war, transporting troops and vehicles east and casualties westward across the English Channel, "though bad luck saw her needing repairs following collisions with other ships and underwater obstructions. She was being prepared for the Pacific Theater when Japan surrendered, and earned one battle star for her World War II service," the Cross Sound Ferry said.
Traveled on this ferry many times.

The weather this weekend was perfect. ;)

So Sunday night and the traffic is heavy.......

Actually the worst traffic was earlier. Weekenders and day trippers have drives home of from an hour to 4 hours after which they have get the kids in bed and ready for school. They themselves more likely than not have to work tomorrow.

I know all about that from when we were first married and lived up Island and then for several years in central New Jersey. Monday mornings were a nightmare.

We'd catch up during the week and then head back to the North Fork on Friday evening. Good thing we were young then. ;)

I am listening to WLNG this evening marveling that some East End advertisers are still running ads from early summer.

Seriously, seasonal restaurants are not "now open". They are still open.

The demand for beach parifinalia is gone.

No one wants clam bakes catered.

Push the apples, the cider, the pumpkins.

Our local hospital may lose up to 2% of its staff who will refuse to vaccinate. Hospital says that would be manageable.

A beautiful but chilly fall morning here. About to brew a second mug of hot tea and then make a hot breakfast sandwich.

It's Wednesday evening, Ladies' Night on WLNG when they feature oldies written and/or performed by women.

DJ Selena has an encyclopedic knowledge of the last 50 years of popular music. Lots of overlooked gems.

Today the LIRR train horn sounds different. Must be a different engine today. Much louder and more annoying. :(

After a couple of chilly days and nights requiring the gas heaters this weekend will be gorgeous. Highs in the low 70s with bright sunshine. That means traffic, traffic, traffic!

After Mrs. V decided on Wednesday that she definitely wouldn't play music for this Sunday's UU service yesterday she talked with the pianist and agreed to play so she is about to head out to Greenport to the pianist's house to run through the music and then go to lunch.

Meanwhile the cat and I will guard the porch from attack by squirrels or the groundhog. ;)

After a 3 hour online rehearsal with the Dallas Recorder Society this morning Mrs. V took her 415 baroque flute 1 hour up Island to be cleaned. Coming back she got distracted by a Kohls store so I don't expect to see her soon. ;)

Understandable that she'll be off in the ozone for a while. All those offers, Kohl's bucks, etc. can be hypnotic in their appeal. After buying something via the app last year, I had to delete it and get off their mailing lists as I found myself spending far too much time trying to figure out how to game their promotions in order to buy mid grade stuff I didn't actually need or want.

Another beautiful Fall weekend has passed. It got cloudy about 4 pm so the traffic started early.

Rain the next 2 days. Time to pack.

Our neighbor to the west had his driveway re- asphalted today. The Circle smells like a refinery. :(

A major accident has closed Main Rd at the Jamesport/Laurel border just in time for rush hour. Both Riverhead and Southold police are responding.

Traffic is being diverted to Sound Ave which has become jammed in both directions.

This cool rainy Sunday the Riverhead County Fair is happening.

Also the Westhampton Air Fair.

Good time to be sitting on a dry porch with a mug of hot tea.
