Well, if they fire him at the district, he's still got his city council gig at least.

In other words, they spotted an unarmed guy acting suspiciously, so he was the right balance of 'scary' and 'not an actual threat' for lethal force to beapplied. just to be safe.

Uvalde superintendent says district to hire more police
WTF for? The nineteen they had sitting outside the classroom weren't enough? I'm sure if the shooter realized they had not 19, but rather 30 officers standing outside the room while he killed children for an hour things would have went down much differently.

That excuse sounds an awful lot like, “I was too busy driving to stop for gas,” to me.

I still don't know how he could keep both jobs under any circumstance. Isn't double dipping like that illegal?

I know in small towns some officials need to wear multiple hats, but that is defined as part of the job.

This police officer is an appointed position that has nothing to do with the elected city council position.

And take it out of the school district budget, of course, so we won't be able to buy books or paper or pencils or hire teachers or...

As the saying goes, when all you have is a hammer, everything starts looking like a thumb.

The GoP doesn't really have a rich range of solutions to pick from.. they can either go for 'more guns', 'more police', 'privatize', or 'crack down on minorities'. Hiring more officers is simply the least dumb solution from their very limited set of options.

The ISD police position is a paying job.

Based on other cities I have lived in in Texas the city council position is not a full time job. It may pay nothing at all. The city is likely run by a hired city manager. The city council may only meet for a few hours once a week.

The long time mayor in our previous city was a fulltime employee of my employer. He was mayor of a city of 90,000 people in his spare time just as I was the unpaid president of the local semiprofessional orchestra in my spare time.

Note that unlike in many other states TX school districts are not part of city governments. They are independent (as in ISD). They are run by elected school boards that hire paid superintendents to actually run the district. They collect their own taxes. They often serve more than one city and also nearby incorporated areas. That is why they may have their own police departments.

If he wasn't the incident commander then who was? It was on school district property and he was the school district police chief. If he wasn't going to take command he should have formally deferred to the city police or the state LEOs.

It is an intersting parallel to the ammosexual mindset in general. He is essentially claiming that accurate information is of so little value that it should be sacrificed in favor of more gun under the idea that it MIGHT get in the way of being able to shoot someone.

After Visiting Friend's Memorial, Uvalde Survivor, 11, Was Hospitalized After Nearly Suffering Heart Attack: Mom
Amerie Jo Garza protected Illiana Treviño from school bullies, Illiana's mother tells PEOPLE

IIliana Treviño, a fourth grader at Robb Elementary School, lost her best friend, Amerie Jo Garza, in last month's mass shooting at the Uvalde, Texas, school.

According to IIliana's mother, Amerie, 10, would protect IIliana, 11, from school bullies. After visiting Amerie's memorial last week, Iliana's heart rate spiked. Her mother rushed her to the hospital, where doctors told her IIliana had been on the verge of having a heart attack. More than a week later, she remains hospitalized.

"I think it's just from a broken heart that we need to work on healing," Jessica Treviño, 40, tells PEOPLE, adding that her daughter had no previous medical issues that might have predicted this.

"Everything just broke her in half, and she feels the fear of being bullied again," she says.

On the day of the shooting, Illiana escaped physically unscathed after the gunman walked past her fourth grade classroom. But Amerie was shot as she tried to dial 911 on her cell phone, according to Amerie's grandmother, Berlinda Arreola. When Illiana saw Amerie's face on the news as one of the fatal victims, "she just started screaming and crying," Jessica tells PEOPLE.

This tweet brought to you by NordVPN.

VPNs have become so accessable and so frequently advertised to a young crowd that unless you are doing some extra sleuthing, determining if an email came from 'outside the country' is wishful thinking.

So how long before a teacher is killed by a student who snatches their gun?
