Second gentleman safe after being evacuated from Washington, DC, high school due to bomb threat

https://www.cnn.com/2022/02/08/politics ... index.html
Second gentleman Doug Emhoff is safe after being ushered out of a room at a Washington, DC, high school by the Secret Service following a bomb threat to the building, his spokesperson said.

"U.S. Secret Service was made aware of a security threat at a school where the @SecondGentleman was meeting with students and faculty. Mr. Emhoff is safe and the school has been evacuated. We are grateful to Secret Service and D.C. Police for their work," Emhoff's spokesperson Katie Peters wrote Tuesday on Twitter.

Vice President Kamala Harris has been in touch with Emhoff since the evacuation and "he's OK," a White House official said.

District of Columbia Public Schools press secretary Enrique Gutierrez told reporters at the event that a bomb threat had been called into Dunbar High School in Northwest Washington, where Emhoff was holding an event.

‘Speechless.’ Middle-schoolers assault high school baseball coach, Texas video shows

Sun, February 13, 2022, 5:30 PM

A Texas baseball coach was chased and beaten by a group of middle-school students in an act of retaliation against him, news outlets report.

The attack was captured on cell phone video now circulating on social media, and shows a Houston high school employee running from four students, who can be seen punching the man and knocking him to the ground.

Officials with Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District confirmed to TV station KTRK that the assault took place at Langham Creek High School on Feb. 10.

The attackers are students at Aragon Middle School, the outlet reported, and the victim is Michael Shott, an assistant baseball coach and physics teacher at Langham Creek High School.

Shott suffered a broken arm from the attack and is recovering, his mother, Peggy Shott, told KTRK.

“The reason it happened to him was because he was doing his job,” she said.

Students and social media users say Shott was jumped because he told the students they couldn’t ride dirt bikes or ATVs on school grounds, outlets report.

The students were arrested, but soon after threats to shoot up the school were made, and the district tightened security, KABB reported.

The Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District serves a very wealthy area on the northwest side of Houston/Harris County. I have no inside info but I suspect that those kids are overprivileged and have gotten away with all kinds of misbehavior their whole lives because their parents have lots of money.

Which probably means the judge, if it even makes it to one, will not want to ruin their promising young lives for such a mistake of passion! After all, it was only a teacher.

Possible but maybe not. Harris County, like Texas as a whole, is no longer majority non-Hispanic white. Cypress-Fairbanks is in the wealthy suburbs but it is in Harris County and its county courts are in downtown Houston.

District says all Corsicana ISD students and staff are safe

https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/gun-f ... as_twt_shr
The Corsicana ISD said shortly before noon that the high school had been placed on lockdown after administrators were told a student had a gun in a backpack.

The district said the student's backpack was searched and no gun was found. While police continued to question students about the report, police and administrators were assigned to monitor entryways and hallways.

About 90 minutes later, the district said "after interrogating students and a thorough search, CISD police and administrators located a gun hidden in a classroom."

The district said the students involved have been arrested but did not elaborate to say how many students were involved or reveal any information about their ages or identities. Additionally, no information was provided about what charges the arrested students may face.

Florida Teacher Hospitalized After Attack by 5-Year-Old Student, Police Say
The incident happened Wednesday at Pines Lakes Elementary School, and a police report described the incident as an aggravated assault with hands, fist or feet
:snippity:
The teacher got on the school radio and said she needed help, and that's when an officer responded and found her sitting against a wall "appearing to be in a faint state," the report said.

The teacher needed help getting up and was "clearly weak and dazed" and began coughing and dry heaving, the report said.

The officer requested a rescue unit respond to the school as the teacher "continued to blink and breathe regularly but at no point was able to vocally respond or show signs of a response," the report said.

Rescue workers arrived and put the teacher on a stretcher, she was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital.
:snippity:
Fusco said the 5-year-old with special needs continued to attack the teacher, even after she was on the floor and unresponsive.

"She was caught where he ran and jumped on her and attacked her with his body weight, which caused the severe injury and she will need surgery," Fusco said.

The teacher's injuries were so severe she had to be intubated at the hospital, Fusco said.

Fusco said it's the third time the teacher was taken from the classroom in an ambulance because of injuries from the same student. Last time, the student pinned the teacher under a bookcase, and she lost consciousness and was treated for a concussion, , Fusco said.

variation to the theme - though the "hanging" was not so intended
History teacher removed after hanging Black doll in classroom

Published: Mar. 31, 2022 at 11:09 PM GMT+2|Updated: 13 minutes ago

CHICAGO (WLS) - A heated exchange between two teachers at a Chicago high school is being investigated after one of the teachers hung a Black doll from a cord in a classroom.

It took place in front of students, and a picture of the incident circulated on social media.

On Wednesday, the school day ended at Whitney Young Magnet High School with a special listening session after the apparent racial incident.

“He [the teacher] definitely should have thought about it because that could be really sensitive, especially with it being an African American doll and something that could cause suicidal thoughts,” said high school sophomore William Schetz.

According to a letter from the school’s principal Joyce Kenner to parents, a teacher hung a small stuffed African American football doll by a pull-down string from a projector screen in their classroom. The teacher indicated he found the doll in his room and wanted the students to see if someone would claim it.

When another teacher confronted that teacher about the hanging doll, the two reportedly got into a fight.

Kenner said Chicago Public School officials have taken over the investigation of the incident and removed the history teacher.

Houston ISD is investigating reported beating, bullying at Bellaire High School

https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/h ... dium=email
The mother of a ninth-grader at the school told KPRC Monday that he was beaten by a group of students on campus on April 1, causing a broken nose and multiple bruises on his head and face. The mother said the same students previously had bullied her son, who is new to the school.

“Houston ISD takes reports of physical altercations seriously and investigates each case accordingly to ensure all students have access to a safe and productive learning environment,” said Tejal Patel, general manager of media relations for HISD, in a statement.

The school system’s police department and administrators are “looking into the cause of the altercation,” Patel said.

The district said it will “continue to evaluate ways to prevent these occurrences in the future.”
Bellaire is a wealthy city inside the Loop and almost completely surrounded by Houston. Median household income about $201,700.

Population is 65.2% non-Hispanic White, 2% Black and 22.3% Asian. Only 8% of the population is Hispanic. Compare to Houston- 40% Hispanic, 30% non-Hispanic White, 22.6% Black and 7.3% Asian.

Multiple players suspended after JUCO pitcher levels batter

https://apnews.com/article/sports-baseb ... 1027c63670
A Texas junior college baseball conference has suspended a pitcher for four games after he tackled an opposing batter after a home run, and the batter also was suspended for two games because he was ejected for taunting.

The North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference announced Thursday it suspended both players and many more from both teams due to the resulting brawl.

Online video of the play showed North Central Texas College’s Josh Phillips rounding third after his sixth-inning home run, only to have Weatherford College pitcher Owen Woodward charge off the mound and level him with a violent blow to the midsection. Several players then charged on to the field.

Weatherford officials have said Woodward could face expulsion from school as the play caught widespread online attention.

So Today after school-getting 6-8 graders on the bus or walking home, a teacher in the crosswalk noticed a guy that pulled a gun. We rushed the students not yet on the bus back to the gym and told the students on the bus to get down on the floor-

After about 10 minutes the lot was full of police and a guy was in handcuffs and the all clear was given.
