I don’t know why this thread has gone so far askew from the topic.
We send these folks to Washington to do our bidding. This thread (I think) was intended to address “debt”.
When I look at the last few responses, they seem to be about a poster’s credibility????

Got it, or maybe not. It’s clear to me that some posters here are so enamored with the folks they voted for than that the fact that they extend the limit they instituted. Sorry, I don’t get it.

Keep posting otherwise if you must.

You posted another dishonest video and spent 4 days trying to deflect those who noticed, that's how it got off-topic.

But we can go back to the topic now, which is about the dishonest Republicans refusing to increase the debt ceiling when Democrats are in the White House.

That's the topic, and it isn't going to change. Carry on.

No. The title of the thread pretty clearly indicates it was “intended to address” Republicans taking the debt ceiling hostage in order to extract political concessions from any Democratic administration.

You would like (I think) to have a broader range discussion about the debt, the potentially positive effects of abiding by a debt ceiling that’s been established, and apportioning responsibility for that not having been done. I’d suggest you start such a thread yourself.

Clearly you didn’t read or understand the title of the subject video,
Whether pubs or dems are dishonest is a subject you may wish to open elsewhere.
If there aren’t threads on this there should be.

Calling this poster dishonest is an issue you may choose to revisit (probably not). Name calling (and profanity)
seems to fit your approach. Guess what, childish BS aside, perhaps substance might be important.

Your language choice is Not for me to choose but you’re an adult and will manage your home as you will.

No, he's desperately trying to change the subject. I'm about to restrict him to the sports threads. He can't be honest elsewhere.
Don’t disagree with the boss, you’ll be “restricted”.
Welcome to Fogbow for having an opinion…….unless it’s ours….

Why? Because Trump just ordered him to.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I recall no debt ceiling fight and gov temp shutdown that resulted in social security payments not going out. Republicans would exempt that. Those elderly are their base.

Good point about base. I am on social security but I am not too worried about it until I start losing investment.
Has anyone addressed the Medicare payments? Would hospitals/doctors start seeing delayed payments?

Getting back to the topic, looking at the wikipaedia article. The main topics reinforce the title of this thread. The only debt crises were during democratic presidencies.

I would like to see a chart correlating debt limit, crisis, presidencies, congressional majorities. Does that make sense?

One more personal observation, off topic. The debt limit loped along for the most part in the sub 100bn range until reagan. Since then more have been sub 1tn range.

Millions of job cuts, no Social Security, immediate recession: Here’s how gnarly a national debt default would be
https://fortune.com/2023/05/17/how-bad- ... -security/
Millions of people in the U.S. rely on benefits that could go unpaid and services that could be disrupted, or halted altogether, if the government can’t pay its bills for an extended period.

If the economy tanked due to default, more than 8 million people could lose their jobs, government officials estimate. Millions of Social Security beneficiaries, veterans and military families could lose their monthly payments. Vital federal services including border and air traffic control could be disrupted if workers can’t get their government paychecks.
Lots of articles are available.

Here's a place to start, but I'm not sure it marks against debt limit rising.

There is no ceiling on debt. There is also no limit on how much money the Mint can sell to the Fed Reserve.

IOW, they could issue a trillion dollar coin thus ending the "debt" discussion.

So allegedly Trump tells the invertebrate to not cave until they get everything because that is what the D's do. This is based on the right's idea of negotiation where, if they don't get everything they demand, the other side is not not negotiating in good faith.

But here's what I expect. If Biden caved on everything, they would move the goalposts. What they want does not involve debt, spending, or taxes. Their only goal is to beat Biden.
