Go to User Control Panel - - > Usergroups and join the Sports Fans usergroup.
Some people are not sportsball fans, and they don't want to see the threads, and that's OK.

But if you want to participate in our college and pro football pick 'ems on a weekly basis, you are cordially invited to join us.

And there are other intensely interesting topics in the sportsball threads, which you will MISS OUT ON if'n you don't join the usergroup.

So go ... go to the UCP and do your thing.

Here is the Week 1 thread for COLLEGE FOOTBALL for the year. This is the ELEVENTH YEAR IN A ROW that we have had pick 'ems, and they are WAY MORE FUN than making mud pies. If you can't see that thread, go to the UCP and join the usergroup.

Warning to the males who think they know something about college or pro football: Look out, because there are some kickass girls here who are going to sneak up behind you and KICK YOUR ASS on the pick' ems.

Which is just how we roll here. If you can't stand losing to a femalian, why are you even here? You can do this thing. I believe in you. But be aware, there is some serious competition, and some serious fun. VERY serious fun!

For the first time 11 years, I actually joined the usergroup. Right now, I want to protect Estiveo's command of the bottom of the pack so I will probably just observe for now.

Yeah, I always try to participate, but I don't watch football (or anything else) on the Tee Vee, so I have a horrible record of dropping out after a week or two. But this year will be different! Maybe.

But if you watch football, you will enjoy the pick 'ems. We have fantasy league too, whatever that is. I never did that before, but those who do really enjoy it.

I don't know how to join the use group

No, you must join the usergroup in order to make picks.

1. Go to the User Control Panel, there's a link at the top of the page.

2. Click on the tab that says Usergroups.

3. Look for the group named Sports Fans, and select it. Make sure "Join selected" shows in the drop-down box and click the Submit button.

It's really easy, you won't have a problem. But you have to be a member of the group or you won't be able to see the threads.

If you do have trouble, I'll make a quick video next week, when I get back from my dad's.

If it keeps the drama at bay, maybe? IIRC, before they were hidden there was quite the objection. Maybe that's backed way off.

I suppose back in the old days, when the birther stuff was coming a mile a minute, having the sportsball stuff popup may have annoyed those focused on the birther stuff. Nowadays, we are much more general and though we always had a bunch of non-birther stuff, it seems to have expanded. I am not one to mind topics that I don't read. Sometimes, I wish PHPBB would add a "ignore thread" or "ignore topic" function, but it really is not all that annoying to me.

In fairness, I am not one to get all uptight about too many emails showing on my inbox (I do use rules at work to send automated stuff I need to check to particular folders) or search result lists that are too long (I would rather toss a wider net and them limit down). There are colleagues of mine that all that data in front of them causes them stress. I know how to skip stuff I don't need to see. When out of the office for a while so I finally get a bunch more, I delete emails I know do not need checking (junk mail and newsletters). I then also quickly scan for priorities and move or flag things. This makes it much easier to approach (oh, and check the last email in a long stream and only review before if needed).

Granted, I am a data analyst so I am used to slogging through a bunch of data.
