Tesla had it's own topic on the former TFB

Now added Musk personally, not only the vehicles to travel (14Oct2022)

U.S. Will Investigate Tesla’s Autopilot System Over Crashes With Emergency Vehicles
It will be the broadest look yet at Tesla’s assisted-driving technology. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has the authority to force a recall or require new safety features.

By Neal E. Boudette and Niraj Chokshi
Aug. 16, 2021

The U.S. auto safety regulator said Monday that it had opened a broad investigation of the Autopilot system used in hundreds of thousands of Tesla’s electric cars.

The investigation was prompted by at least 11 accidents in which Teslas using Autopilot, an assisted-driving system that can steer, accelerate and brake on its own, drove into parked fire trucks, police cars and other emergency vehicles, the safety agency, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, disclosed. Those crashes killed one woman and injured 17 people.

Safety experts and regulators have been scrutinizing Autopilot since the first fatal accident involving the system was reported in 2016, in which the driver of a Tesla Model S was killed when his car struck a tractor-trailer in Florida. In that case, the safety agency concluded there were no defects — a position it stuck to for years even as the number of crashes and deaths involving Autopilot climbed.

On Monday, the agency appeared to change course. The investigation is the broadest look yet at Autopilot and at potential flaws that could make it and the Teslas that operate on it dangerous.

It's not a dealership. It's a Tesla store owned by Tesla.

Not only that, you can't actually buy a Tesla there. You have to do that online. Manufacturers can't sell cars to consumers directly in person, it's against The Law.

And I'm in Australia.

And how exactly does a 'Tesla Store' differ from a 'Tesla Dealership'?

My guess - Tesla adapted to European consumer mindset, and perhaps to EU legislation.

Dealerships are independent businesses that buy cars from manufacturers then resell them to the public. They aren't owned by the manufacturer and they set their own sales prices.

Yeah, and the manufacturers have various provisions in their contracts, both good and bad, that they can use if the dealership isn't selling enough cars, to cancel the agreement. 'Course, if you're really good at selling cars, you might be able to open several dealerships for various manufacturers. Here in Rawly we have one family that owns about 8 dealerships. They don't care if you don't buy a Chevy from one place, because you'll probably buy a Hyundai from one of their other stores.

Taxes aren’t the only reason Elon Musk is selling Tesla stock

PUBLISHED TUE, NOV 16 2021 6:00 AM EST UPDATED 4 HOURS AGO
Robert Frank

KEY POINTS
  • Tesla CEO Elon Musk faces a potential tax bill of more than $10 billion on stock options he was granted in 2012.
Musk started exercising the options Monday, exercising $2.5 billion in shares and selling $1.1 billion of those exercised options to pay the taxes.
But he continued to sell additional stock, and it’s likely those sales were unrelated to the stock option exercises he must complete by August. This means future stock sales are likely.

Here’s a breakdown of Elon Musk’s Tesla stock sell-off

Elon Musk’s sales of Tesla stock last week came as little surprise to those who have been following the story of his potential tax bill of $10 billion to $15 billion on stock options granted in 2012. Yet according to accountants, most of his sales don’t appear to be connected with taxes — which could mean he will unload far more stock than expected.

The options on Musk’s 23 million shares expire in August, which is also the deadline for the tax bill due to California and the Internal Revenue Service. Musk started exercising the options Nov. 8. He exercised $2.5 billion in shares and sold $1.1 billion of those exercised options to pay the taxes.

“The shares of common stock were sold solely to satisfy the reporting person’s tax withholding obligations related to the exercise of stock options,” said a footnote to his Securities and Exchange Commission filing for Nov. 8.

Then on Monday, Musk sold another $930 million in shares to pay taxes on options that he exercised on 2.1 million shares. That brings his total options exercises to about $4.6 billion and shares sold to meet tax withholding obligations to $2 billion.

Yet most of last week’s sales were for a different reason. Rather than selling as part of an options exercise, Musk started selling from his existing shares. Accountants said it would be impractical for Musk to use those existing shares to pay the tax on his options, since they carry a much higher tax bill.

App outage locks hundreds of Tesla drivers out of cars
Dozen of motorists report error as company’s CEO, Elon Musk, apologises on Twitter

Reuters
Sat 20 Nov 2021 17.38 GMT

Hundreds of Tesla drivers were locked out of their cars at the start of the weekend after the manufacturer’s mobile app suffered an outage – and dozens voiced their complaints on social media.

Elon Musk, Tesla’s chief executive, said on Friday that the company’s mobile application was coming back online after the app server outage. Musk was responding to a Tesla owner’s tweet, who said that he was experiencing a “500 server error” to connect his Model 3 through the iOS app in Seoul, South Korea.

Inside Tesla as Elon Musk Pushed an Unflinching Vision for Self-Driving Cars
The automaker may have undermined safety in designing its Autopilot driver-assistance system to fit its chief executive’s vision, former employees say.

By Cade Metz and Neal E. Boudette
Dec. 6, 2021

Elon Musk built his electric car company, Tesla, around the promise that it represented the future of driving — a phrase emblazoned on the automaker’s website.

Much of that promise was centered on Autopilot, a system of features that could steer, brake and accelerate the company’s sleek electric vehicles on highways. Over and over, Mr. Musk declared that truly autonomous driving was nearly at hand — the day when a Tesla could drive itself — and that the capability would be whisked to drivers over the air in software updates.

Unlike technologists at almost every other company working on self-driving vehicles, Mr. Musk insisted that autonomy could be achieved solely with cameras tracking their surroundings. But many Tesla engineers questioned whether it was safe enough to rely on cameras without the benefit of other sensing devices — and whether Mr. Musk was promising drivers too much about Autopilot’s capabilities.

Now those questions are at the heart of an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration after at least 12 accidents in which Teslas using Autopilot drove into parked fire trucks, police cars and other emergency vehicles, killing one person and injuring 17 others.

If you'd answer the phone when one those folks who wants to talk to you about your car warranty calls, maybe it would be better.

Apropos of nothing, I was looking at Musk's stock transactions/sales over the last month, and the figures $906B and $13B in stock SALES jump out screaming at me. Even after years in the financial industry I have a hard/no near impossible time wrapping my head around that.

Because the news is so depressing (and repetitive) I was binge watching Chopped. One of the "guest" judges was a "chef" with the last name Musk. He was very odd. So I googled and yes, he is Elon's brother and owns a bunch of restaurants. He didn't appear to actually know much about, you know, cooking. But the lesson continues (it never endeth!) it's easy to be a "success" when you start out with lots of money from daddy and sit on a Board of Directors of a huge corporation (because your brother controls it).

He wasn't as weird as Elon but definitely "off" a bit. Elon's claim that he has Asperberger's made some sense to me when he said it in the fall, but most people I know with Asperberger's aren't nasty assholes. So that lovely trait likely comes from some environmental influence when he was being raised.
