New this week to America's Top 40 a catchy little tune from the band Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly called Rocket Go Boom

Before he settled on Texas (perfect for him with it’s ‘what, me regulate?’ attitude) there were rumors that he was going to move SpaceX to Lompoc CA, not all that far from Neverland Ranch. It’s close to Vandenberg AFB, the West Coast launch site.

I’m glad they didn’t but it can’t have been much of a choice for them. Lompoc is in a beautiful mountain range. Pristine, mostly. CA wouldn’t let him do whatever he wants. It’s better all around for him to take his toxic chemicals and attitude to Texas where they appreciate that shit.

A couple of years ago while looking into it I read some uncomplimentary things about his Texas operation. Like, he came in and started pushing the government officials around and demanding… things. The locals were already sick of him and he hadn’t moved in yet.

He’d make Twitter profitable!

Waste of fuel.

The people cheering must not be aware of the 1960s and moon landings.

Or don't believe in 'em.

So... uh... he didn't want to pay any of the environmental studies or to build a blast trench or anything. He just threw up the launch platform without any permits. and figured he would rebuild it every launch.

The thing sandblasted a massive crater under the launch and pretty much atomized the launch platform. It's lucky the thing didn't break and topple over when the Rocket was struggling to get airborne.

Those guys he paid to cheer might have lost their hearing too. That fucker was LOUD, louder than the Saturn V used to get the Apollos into space. And SpaceX's exclusion zone was way smaller than the one at Canaveral.

Some really spectacular footage of why you need a proper launch platform and blast trench. All that material used to be part of the Launch platform and the ground under it.

What's the going rate for cheering wildly for a spectacular failure? I might be available, depending on perks and whatnot.

One wonders what images would look like if they had to analyze the rocket body for defects duringg liftoff or when detonating on the launch pad.

IIRC NASA was able to determine the reason of launch failures from parts dropping by the cameras.

What a horrible interview by Bill Maher, All softball Qs and many injections of worship-like praise for Elmo. Did Bill give him a BJ back in the green room, too?
