OK, here's the latest über-dumb thing I did. I can talk about it now.

Went to the gym for Musical Asskicking class - my whole fambly is vaccinated and they do social distancing, I feel safe there again.

I forgotted my gym shorts, but I had the right socks, shoes, t-shirt ... I decided to just wear the shorts I was wearing. But I hated those shorts. Even though they fit. They were mom shorts, too big for my thighs, a color (blue) I don't like, just not cool enough for an icon of cool like me. Like my t-shirts, I wear my shorts in order - when I wash them, I fold them and put them on top of the stack, then I take a pair off the bottom of the stack to wear, so there's a strict rotation.

Anal? I think not. :fingerwag: It means I wear them all out at the same rate. Genius, really.

But I have a lot of shorts now, and I really disliked the blue ones. When they got to the bottom of the stack in the normal rotation, I grimaced before putting them on. So I resolved that when I got home, I would throw them out. Good riddance!

As the class progressed, and I was interlacing my fingers and hitting my legs with both hands (this is a standard and necessary move in the class), my wedding ring started bothering me, bopping it on the knuckles of my other hand. So I took the ring off and put it in my pocket.

Then I got distracted by a few things. Can you feel the excitement yet? :waiting:

After class, I went to the shoulder specialist for my cortisone shot, drove home, threw the shorts in the trash basket in the bedroom, and later I took the bag down, put it in the big trash bin, and rolled the bin out to the curb, because the truck came the next day.

Oops. :oopsy: :bag:

I told ol' Wifehorn, I didn't "lose" it. I threw it away :blackeye:

My new one is nice, she likes it. Last week I talked to a young lady who had been married only 10 years, and her husband is on his third or fourth ring; "He keeps losing them." Yesterday my Dancing with Barbells instructor told me her husband lost his in the surf, and had 20 people helping him look for it. Unsuccessfully.

So it's a guy thing, I guess.

But it will be a long time before I empty the bedroom trash basket without making sure my wedding ring isn't in there.

My husband lost his more than ten years ago. He was devastated. He thinks it actually fell into the waste basket by his desk and also went out with the trash. He usually never took it off, but he did for some specific reason one time. That's why he's pretty sure it went out in the trash. He could remember the only time he took it off and where he was.

After his father died, he was given his wedding ring, so he wears that now. I'm okay with that.

Yeah, it's a guy thing.

A couple years ago, my dad lost his wedding ring. After 65 years. We searched all over, even putting a camera down the floor vents, but it never turned up. So, my sweet dad put a split key ring on his finger until he could find a replacement. :lovestruck:

My wedding set is missing a diamond. It fell out about 15 years ago and I had it repaired and the diamond replaced. A couple of years ago the setting broke in same spot and the diamond fell out. My husband offered to get me a new set, but I was like, “Nah. This is the one you bought me with your last dollar. I’ll keep it.” It looks like it’s missing a tooth.

My wedding set was antique: A v-shaped engagement ring with 4 baguettes; the wedding ring, a pear-shaped yellow diamond, fit into the V.

I loved it but I confessed to him that I was worried I’d lose the stone it sat up so high. Periodically mr520butthead would gasp and point and say ‘Your diamond!’ And my heart would leap into my throat and then I’d strangle him. Five or so years later he’d do it again.

And then one day…I came out of Starbucks, climbed into the car, went to back out and noticed the stone was missing!!! I was stunned. I went back in and said to the manager, ‘If anyone finds a loose diamond it’s mine.’ And started laughing hysterically then burst into tears. She helped me get a grip and I left, thinking how hard the mr would probably laugh when I told him.

I got back into my car and kinda banged my head on the steering wheel. There it was, peeking out from under my right foot, about to fall into the carpet grommet.

I have a different band now.

Maybe auto. You could put a gemstone in your beautiful ring for a touch of color. They are less expensive to replace.

My driver’s license expired a year ago last May and once the DMV opened up for appointments last summer I tried and tried to get an appointment but every appointment that opened up was booked as soon as it opened. I had planned on getting one of those new “Real ID’s” the Virginia DMV started issuing a year or so ago. FINALLY about 3 months ago I was able to book an appt for today. I was very impressed at how quickly and easily getting in and out actually was. Even before Covid the DMV was always a 2+hour nightmare on a good day, but today I walked in and out in about 20 minutes! Imagine that!

it’s been along time since I’ve been to the DMV, but I would much rather wait three months at home for an appointment then three hours in the DMV listening to, “D 47 is being served at window number nine. D 47 is being served at window number nine.”

we discussed some engeneer commenting on red light traps earlier, now this
Government Threatens Retired Engineer With a Crime for Doing Math

Institute for Justice
Published on 10 Jun 2021

Wayne Nutt is an engineer. He graduated with a degree in engineering and worked most of his career in North Carolina without ever needing a license to actually work as an engineer. But now, the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors is telling Wayne that speaking publicly about engineering without a state license could lead to criminal charges. Today, Wayne teamed up with the Institute for Justice (IJ) to file a federal lawsuit to protect his First Amendment right to speak from his expertise and experience.

Wayne’s troubles began when he agreed to help his son, Kyle, a North Carolina attorney, with a case about a piping system that allegedly flooded a few local homes. In his deposition, Wayne testified truthfully that he was not (and never had been) a licensed engineer. In fact, like the majority of engineers nationwide, Wayne was not required to get a license since he worked for a company under the state’s “industrial exception,’” according to the Institute of Justice.
After that, Nutt was sent a letter by the state board saying they were investigating him for practicing engineering without a license. The case Nutt was working on was one involving Bill Clark Homes and was filed in New Hanover County. Nutt said he was not paid or ‘hired’ to help out with the case, he simply wanted to. But the opposing counsel objected to him offering his opinion and then went to the state board who sent him two letters threatening him with legal action.
IMHO:
That was pretty stupid, both on his part and on his son's part. Not sure about the legalities.
Testifying about piping systems sounds like you ought to have a PE.

Unless his home was one of those flooded by the allegedly flawed piping system, wouldn't the court have had to accept him as an expert witness? Does testifying constitute "practicing engineering" in a way that requires a license? If the state law governing licensing of engineers specifically mentions testifying in court as one of the functions requiring a license, then the court should not have accepted him as an expert.

Now, if he had helped the city, county or state design a piping system, and been paid for it, I could see that as practicing engineering.

In Illinois, well at least in the metro Chicago area, the letter represents what service you are receiving and determines which window you will go to (like A as A24 for stickers, B as in B13 for CDL, D45 for title, G32 for Real ID/DL, etc. I am making up which one goes where). Most of our places are large with multiple counters.

While the SOS keeps extending the renewal requirement, I decided to take a lovely fall drive to the Lake Zurich facility in October (they had closed the one near me a few years back). They had altered the process with the initial check point being outside (the gate keeper who gets you started for the correct line). Then the normal gatekeeper desk checks your stuff and gives you a number. Interesting, they had the photo being taken before you get to your main counter so some of your wait time is taken at the line for the photo.

I had planed 1-2 hours for this. I was out in 20 minutes. Between new procedures and people not going, it was light. The thing is, I only had to do this in person because I needed to do the eye test (last time I renewed online). Due to COVID, they skipped the eye test part. Ah well, I had decided, since I had to go in, I might as well do the Real ID. It was a pretty Friday in the country drive and there is a Binney's in the same shopping center.

That same facility is now part of the appointment test project. I will find out in 8 years how well that works.

I don't know if this is true all over Pennsylvania, but I have never taken more than 20 minutes to get my license renewed. I can go to a PA License Center, but there's one in a nearby AAA, and I've gone there the last three or four times (renewal every four years). I've never gotten the jokes and jabs about renewing a driver's license.

I renewed my license online. They used the photo that was on my expired license. It was extremely easy.

When I was in rural Michigan, it was pretty quick but not as so much in Kalamazoo. The DMV in the Chicago area is long, long, long waits, especially in Cook County. When I first moved into Lake County and went to the DMV to do stuff, instead of the normal gatekeeper statement of "what do you want" you would here in Cook County, I got "hello. How may I help you." I thought I was in the wrong place.

The former DMV on Golf Road in northern Cook County had a 45-minute wait just to get to the gatekeeper who would check your stuff and issue you the number tag. You then got to wait longer for the actual counter. When I went (years ago) to the one formerly nearby in Lake County to get renewal stickers, I got to the gatekeeper with only 3 or so in line, and they sent me directly to the cashier. Out in 10 minutes. I didn't know what to do with my extra time. Experience had taught me to plan for an hour.

If I can, I do it all online now. However, this last license renewal required me to actually show up as I was supposed to have an eye test and they don't do those online. For safety reasons, they were not even doing them but since I had to go in, I got all my stuff together and did the Real ID (I could have done a regular one since I have a passport, but having the Real ID is a nice backup such as if I forget my passport on a domestic trip).

So Maybenaut, are you still waiting in line?

p.s. I would have loved a mention @ extension for that line above.
