He was specifically having the problem with Samsung's keyboard, so I downloaded the Googles on-screen keyboard and set it as the default and I think that may have fixed it!

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy to cover ginormous Jesus painting in administrative building

Yesterday, the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), acting on a complaint from a group of seventeen alumni, staff, faculty, and midshipmen at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, sent a demand to the Academy’s superintendent that a gigantic painting of Jesus hovering over a lifeboat be removed from its completely improper and Constitution-violating location in the Academy’s administrative building. MRFF suggested that it be relocated to the Academy’s chapel, the only place that such a painting should ever be displayed at any government institution.

The colossal Christian canvas now dominates the Elliot M. See room within Wiley Hall, the Academy’s administrative building — the room in which are held, among other things, Midshipmen Honor Boards, at which midshipmen are defending themselves against alleged honor violations. Just imagine being a non-Christian USMMA midshipman in that already agonizing situation, with your whole future hanging in the balance, and then throw in a giant Jesus hanging over the proceedings to make it even more distressing. Especially to non-Christian USMMA midshipmen, faculty, and staff who find themselves in this room for other, less dire reasons, the looming lord and savior of Christians might as well be a great big neon sign saying, “You really don’t belong here.”

To the pleasant surprise of MRFF, USMMA’s superintendent, Vice Admiral Joanna M. Nunan, who just took the helm at the Academy a little over a month ago, responded last evening, thanking MRFF for contacting her about this matter and telling MRFF that she planned to have the painting covered with a curtain, and that no mandatory meetings or Honor Boards would be held in the room until the work was completed. The painting could not be moved, she explained, because it is too large to be put anywhere else.

Like the military service academies, the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) offers its midshipmen a free, government-paid education. In exchange for this free education, an after-graduation commitment of working five years in the United States maritime industry with eight years of service as an officer in any reserve unit of the Armed Forces or five years on active duty in any of the nation’s Armed Forces is required. And, although USMMA is under the auspices of the Department of Transportation rather than the Department of Defense, USMMA midshipmen graduate with an officer’s commission in the U.S. Armed Forces just like their counterparts at the military service academies. In other words, many future U.S. military officers are trained at USMMA.
It is a *BF Painting!

Berlin fashion spoof causes chaos as Adidas denies involvement
German sportswear company says event announcing new co-CEO and ‘realitywear’ nothing to do with it

Adidas has had to deny it appointed a former Cambodian union leader as its new co-CEO and launched a Derelicte-style collection of garments pre-worn by factory workers, as a spoof launch event at Berlin fashion week sent confusion around the fashion world.

A spoof press release, written by culture jamming activist duo The Yes Men and sent to fashion bloggers from a fake Adidas email address, announced a “revolutionary plan” for the German sportswear company, designed to “own the reality” of working conditions in the south-east Asian factories where many of its clothes are made.

Cambodian former garment worker and trade union leader Vay Ya Nak Phoan was announced as a future co-CEO alongside Bjørn Gulden, the former Puma executive who took over as head of Adidas at the start of this year.

The new direction for the company was to be underlined by a new “realitywear” product range, supposedly curated by rapper Pharrell Williams, consisting of “carefully distressed” garments “upcycled from clothing worn non-stop for six months by Cambodian workers who are owed wages withheld during the pandemic”.

At a spoof launch event in central Berlin, bruised and bloodied models stumbled across the catwalk in “realitywear” garments in front of an audience that seemed to accept the collection as genuine.

A pair of Adidas slippers with spikes pushing through the soles was presented in a glass cage, as an example of the company’s new ethos.

By midday, Adidas denied it was behind the launch. “This announcement is not by Adidas and not correct,” a spokesperson said.

By then, the press release had been picked up by several fashion news websites and bloggers. “Adidas seems to have learned from past mistakes and seems interested in a serious correction of its course,” wrote news portal FashionUnited, in an article later taken offline.

Glenn Youngkin outraged after VA schools withhold national merit awards from top students over ‘equity’

Anders Hagstrom
Mon, January 16, 2023 at 2:16 PM GMT+1

Republican Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin slammed education officials in his state after seven schools declined to inform students that they had won national merit awards, with the governor arguing the move came in the name of "equity."

National merit awards are among the most prestigious honors a high school student can receive, with just 50,000 students from the top 1.5 million PSAT scores receiving it. Youngkin's administration opened an investigation into the public schools last week, and he has also called for an inquiry into how the schools are using public funds.

"[The schools] have a maniacal focus on equal outcomes for all students at all costs. And at the heart of the American dream, is excelling, is advancing, is stretching and recognizing that we have students that have different capabilities," Youngkin told ABC 7.

"Some students have the ability to perform at one level, others need more help, and we have to allow students to run as fast as they can to dream the biggest dreams they can possibly dream and then go get them," he added.

Virginia Lt. Gov. Sears torches high school's equity-based rule on merit awards: 'This is not America'
Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology called out for delaying merit award notifications to students

Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears blasts Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology over its decision to withhold notifying students of merit awards.

Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears hit back Tuesday at a Virginia high school's equity policy, which infuriated parents by withholding notifications to students about their merit awards.

"This is not the way. This is not America," Sears said on "Fox & Friends" Tuesday. "You don't take the bread out of one child's mouth for another child. We've done that in America. It doesn't work."

The Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology reportedly delayed the notification of Commended Student awards given by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which recognizes top-performing high schoolers nationwide.

Virginia parents expressed their outrage at the decision which one father argued was motivated by trying to avoid "hurt feelings" of other students.

"This was not a one-time error," said father Harry Jackson on "Fox & Friends" Monday.

"This is actually a systemic pattern of injustice that's been occurring since 2017, where students have been withheld those honors from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, where they have not been notified."

Colorado congresswoman Lauren Boebert has backed calls for California Democrats Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell to be removed from the House Intelligence Committee, saying the pair are both "conspiracy theorists."

During an appearance on Fox News' Unfiltered with Dan Bongino on Saturday, Boebert said the pair should not be allowed on the panel in the new GOP-controlled House of Representatives. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has long promised to keep Schiff and Swalwell off the intelligence committee.

This time she was mighty late to the show. The last of Germans open coal pit planning has been going on for a good fifteen years. The last protesters that squatted in the cleared houses had just left these days. The villagers have been relocated.
