FIFY.

Real shamans are real people, and smart, and, usually, wise. This turkey is none of that.

One thing we learned from Jan. 6 committee release of WH visitor logs (besides SSN debacle): Family members of Jair Bolsonaro were visiting the White House as guests of Ivanka Trump the week of Jan. 6.

BREAKING: President Biden just condemned the attack on Brazil's democracy. Hakeem Jeffries did the same earlier. Meanwhile, we've heard absolutely nothing from Kevin McCarthy & Mitch McConnell. Their silence speaks volumes about how little they care for democracy at home—& abroad

Jan 6 Insurrectionists are delighted with what's happening in Brazil. The Gateway House of Boys has posted at least 4 stories about it already today. Jim Hoft seems to have a woody thinking of all those virile, many shirtless, Brazilian men breaking down the doors of Congress and the Presidential Residence, getting sweaty and trying to overthrow the government. His blog posts at the House of Boys are giddy.

Billionaire Elon Musk, who completed his acquisition of Twitter in late October, fired the company’s entire staff in Brazil except for a few salespeople, said a person familiar with the firings who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe sensitive matters. Among those fired in early November included eight people, based in Sao Paulo, who moderated content on the platform to catch posts that broke its rules against incitement to violence and misinformation, the person said. The person said they were not aware of any teams actively moderating rule-breaking content on Twitter in Brazil.

Criticism specifically targeting Alexandre de Moraes, a judge at the Superior Electoral Court and the Supreme Federal Court who is despised by Bolsonaro supporters because he has blocked many prominent right-wing leaders from posting online, have also stepped up since the election, Prado and others said.

Apparently Steve Bannon has been active fomenting this as well.
I know he was very active during the Brexit vote and also Italy.
He is actively against democracy and pro fascism.

SAO PAULO, Jan 9 (Reuters) - Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was admitted to a hospital in Orlando, Florida, with "abdominal pain," newspaper O Globo reported on Monday, a day after some of his hardcore supporters stormed the capital city of Brasilia.

Bolsonaro has been hospitalized multiple times in recent years with gut blockages after being stabbed while campaigning for the presidency in 2018. He traveled to the United States two days before Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva took the office of president.

Is it just me? I get the feeling that it is not going to be two years before we see some of the Brazilian protesters coming to trial. I think that they are going to spend a lot of time in jail.

I heard on NPR this morning that Brazilian judge (their supreme court?) suspended a governor, saying that the violent protests could not have happened without his knowledge and tacit approval.

Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered the Governor of Brasilia be removed from office for 90 days on Sunday over alleged security failings.

He also ordered social media platforms Facebook, Twitter and TikTok to block accounts of users spreading anti-democratic propaganda.

Previously

It was the security head that had rolled..
———
Brasilia Governor Ibaneis Rocha fired the capital's public security chief, Anderson Torres, who previously served as Ms Bolsonaro's justice minister.

The attorney general's office said it had asked the Supreme Court to issue arrest warrants for Mr Torres "and all other public officials responsible for acts and omissions" leading to the unrest.

In other news, Elon Musk just fired almost the entire Twitter staff in Brazil, including everyone tasked with monitoring tweets that violated their ban on hate speech and disinformation.

Brazilian authorities vowed to protect democracy and punish thousands of supporters of ex-President Jair Bolsonaro who stormed and trashed the nation's highest seats of power in chaos with striking similarities to the January 6, 2021 insurrection at the US Capitol.

Key points:
Brazil has been embroiled in riots on state buildings
President Lula accused former president Jair Bolsonaro of inflaming supporters
Mr Bolsonaro is currently in Florida
:snippity:
Protesters — who swarmed into Congress, the Supreme Court and the presidential palace — said they wanted the Brazilian army to restore the far-right Mr Bolsonaro to power and oust the newly inaugurated leftist, Mr da Silva.

However, on Monday, hundreds of Brazilian police in riot gear and some on horseback amassed at the encampment near Brasilia's army headquarters, while soldiers in the area withdrew.

Police then broke down the pro-Bolsonaro encampment and detained some 1,200 people there, the justice ministry's press office told The Associated Press.

On Twitter there was video of the military showing up at the protesting peeps, and they starting cheering (thinking the military was on their side).
Then the arrests started.

I'm betting that unlike here in the US, where most J6'ers haven't even been to trial yet, I'm betting that all 1,200 of the Brazilian protesters are serving long prison sentences by July.
