Looks like a Dalek after liposuction, but it'll match most of Sarah's tacky dresses.

That's one ugly ass lectern. However, somebody spent a ton of time building this. Complex shapes, book matched wood, and automotive grade paint finishes and the associated prep all take time. I don't know if it's 19 grand worth of work but it wouldn't come cheap.

This has fueled “podiumgate” in Arkansas. The lectern v. podium debate has come up. SHS is getting caught in lies and trying to evade the FOIA. I think the FBI may be involved.

You probably haven't heard of "Podiumgate." I've been kicking myself for the last week or so because there's been so much going on and this story is so convoluted that I haven't made time to write…

Apparently it is a Top Secret, Classified Lectern so “nobody knows”* all of the bells and whistles.

*Running gag on the cartoon “Angry Beavers”. Whenever Delaware is mentioned an immediate question is “Where is Delaware”. Before the question is finished the narrator and characters shout,”Nobody knows!”

Interesting tidbit from this article. Apparently, the lecturn in the picture - which is supposedly the new one - looks identical to one she used at her inauguration. TPM didn't post a pic of the inauguration lecturn, so I don't know for sure, but if true, that's going to add to the fun.

ETA: I went searching and found this, it shows more of the inaugural lectern than any other pic I saw, but while there's not much, they are at least very similar:

It's great to hear she's pissing off even Republicans with her ham-handed haughtiness. She can be a one-term governor, then join daddy in pushing pills.

Arkansas lawmakers OK plan to audit purchase of $19,000 lectern for Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders

BY ANDREW DEMILLO
Updated 10:12 PM CEST, October 12, 2023

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas lawmakers on Thursday voted to audit the purchase of a $19,000 lectern for Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, delving into an unusual controversy that’s prompted questions about the seemingly high cost of the item and claims that the governor’s office violated the state’s open-records law.

The all-Republican executive committee of the Legislative Joint Auditing Committee also voted to audit the Republican governor’s travel and security expenditures that were retroactively shielded from public release under a new Freedom of Information Act exemption Sanders signed last month.

The 39-inch tall (1-meter), blue and wood-paneled lectern was purchased in June with a state credit card for $19,029.25. It has become the focus of intense scrutiny in recent weeks and has gained national attention. The Republican Party of Arkansas reimbursed the state for the purchase on Sept. 14, and Sanders’ office has called the use of a state credit card for the lectern an accounting error. Sanders’ office said it received the lectern in August.

Documents released by the state this week have deepened questions about the purchase, including whether the original plan was for the state GOP to repay the state for it.

It's only a meter high? Is she a little person? I would have to bend way over to read anything, even if I did remember my glasses. What, does the lectern need its own podium separate from the governor's podium (or does she sit down)?
