A low moment in the modern history of the Senate Judiciary Committee. A Senator from Texas yelling at the Attorney General, who is Jewish, about the right of parents at school board meetings to give a Nazi salute. Credit to AG Garland for his composure.

I can not argue with that assessment.p0rtia wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 6:28 am IMO one difference between Margie Q and Tom Cottontail is that the latter wants to work within the system to gain power and turn it into even more of a Rich White Boys Club than it's always been, whereas the former is in it for the adrenaline rush of being invincible when it comes to breaking shit. And the clicks.

Re: Merrick Garland's Justice Department
I should note that in the ransomware investigation, which is a big deal, as far as I know they did not state they were investigating anybody in particular until they were ready to unseal the GJ indictment. That is how these things normally work
Announcing, or allowing to leak, an investigation against Bannon or even Trump would cause the right to instantly start working to scuttle it in visible and not so visible ways, and Bannon along with witnesses might end up skipping the country.

Re: Merrick Garland's Justice Department
I don't remember anything leaking about this grand jury. Is that correct or did I just miss it?
There's a lot of things that need to change. One specifically? Police brutality.

Not a peep that I heard -- and I listened really hard.
The only reference I heard was earlier in the week when one of the MSNBC pundits said that a GJ could already have been convened, and we wouldn't know about it.

And Garland said something about letting the procedure run its course, which some interpreted as grand-jury proceedings. (As there's a constitutional right to a grand jury for federal crimes.)

Re: Merrick Garland's Justice Department
Despite the goofy avatar, this is a Justice Department reporter at the New York Times. This Wednesday afternoon, AG Garland will deliver an update on the DOJ's efforts to create accountability around Jan 6 (but he will not discuss any specific individuals or charges.)
Edit: Here are a couple quotes from the statement:
If anyone has a link to the actual statement, please post up. Haven't run across the full thing yet.Ryan J. Reilly @ryanjreilly wrote: NEW: Attorney General Merrick Garland will update Americans on the Jan. 6 investigation and "reaffirm the department's unwavering commitment to defend Americans and American democracy from violence and threats of violence” in a speech on Wednesday, according to a DOJ official.
"While he will not speak to specific individuals or charges, the Attorney General will discuss the department's solemn duty to uphold the Constitution, follow the facts and the law, and pursue equal justice under law without fear or favor."

One Year Since the Jan. 6 Attack on the Capitol
Thursday, Jan. 6 2022, marks one year since the attack on the U.S. Capitol that disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress in the process of affirming the presidential election results. The government continues to investigate losses that resulted from the breach of the Capitol, including damage to the Capitol building and grounds, both inside and outside the building. According to a May 2021 estimate by the Architect of the Capitol, the attack caused approximately $1.5 million worth of damage to the U.S. Capitol building.
Under the continued leadership of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the FBI’s Washington Field Office, the investigation and prosecution of those responsible for the attack continues to move forward at an unprecedented speed and scale. The Department of Justice’s resolve to hold accountable those who committed crimes on Jan. 6, 2021, has not, and will not, wane.
Based on the public court documents, below is a snapshot of the investigation as of Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021. Complete versions of most of the public court documents used to compile these statistics are available on the Capitol Breach Investigation Resource Page at https://www.justice.gov/usao-dc/capitol-breach-cases.

Garland's "speech" is today. Why did DOJ tout this 2 days in advance ? Will you watch it? I have low expectations.
