So a 63 year old guy who was an employee* of the Air Force was indicted for sharing information. Is it just me, or are these messages from his "lady friend" (person he matched with on a dating app) so glaringly fake that it's impossible not to notice? He was really taken in by that stupid conversation?

*At 63, I bet he was in the Air Force active duty (or other service) at some point. I live by an army base and most of the "civilian" employees are former active duty.

Woman figures out trick to get free gas for months; now faces felony theft charge

By Daniel Miller
Published March 12, 2024 3:44PM

LINCOLN, Neb. - A Nebraska woman who found an unusual method to get free gasoline for months is now facing criminal charges.

The 45-year-old was arrested on March 6. She’s free on bond and has an April court hearing on felony theft charges.

This scheme by the woman apparently went on for several months, the Associated Press reported. Investigators say that her crime cost the gas station almost $28,000.

Police learned of the matter in October 2023 when a loss-prevention manager notified authorities of a scam that happened at a gas station in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The company claimed to be unaware of a glitch that let people swipe a rewards card twice to put a gas pump into demonstration mode, which allows a customer to pump gas for free.

One card was used multiple times to get free gas, and authorities traced the card to the woman, who was spotted on video pumping gas on several visits between November 2022 and June 1, 2023.

During that time, the woman used the rewards card 510 times and pumped more than 7,400 gallons of free gas, KOLN-TV in Nebraska reported.

The woman, who was not named, is also accused of letting another woman use her rewards card to get free gas for a fee.

Baker’s bid for liquor license denied based on proximity to place of worship

Mar 22, 2024, 2:29 PM | Updated: Mar 23, 2024, 12:02 pm
BY ANDREW ADAMS KSLTV.com

SALT LAKE CITY — A baker is calling for more common sense in state laws after getting rejected in his attempt to secure a liquor license.

According to the owner of Forty Three Bakery, 733 Genesee Ave., state regulators found his business to be too close to a place of worship to sell beer and wine.

The Summum Pyramid, a sanctuary and temple, has been located at the east end of the block since the late 1970s.

“They determined that our front door was 15 feet too close to the property line of a neighbor who is registered as a place of worship,” said owner Andrew Corrao.

Under Utah law, a licensed establishment must be at least 200 feet straight-line distance and 300 feet walking distance from the business’ entrance to the property line of a community location.

Community locations include churches, schools, public libraries, playgrounds and parks.

Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services spokesperson Michelle Schmitt said the bakery’s straight-line distance to the Summum Pyramid’s property was measured at 179 feet using a measurement wheel and 173 feet using a laser pointer, while the walking distance was determined to be 189 feet.

The bakery should just set its self up as a place of worship and as a church.

The church of Bacchus and Bread.

The church I work at is 121 feet from a bar. Oh horrors.

We were disappointed when they first moved across the street but that was because it filled up the parking lot (a village lot). The parking garage fixed that problem. A few entitled yuppies can't seem to figure out what "reserved for" means but it is usually not a problem.

Michigan GOP lawmaker claims buses carrying NCAA teams are ‘illegals’

https://www.mercurynews.com/2024/03/28/ ... press.coop
Michigan state House Rep. Matt Maddock made the claim Wednesday night in a social media post accompanied by photos of three buses near an Allegiant plane at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. Maddock wrote that the buses “just loaded up with illegal invaders.”

“Anyone have any idea where they’re headed with their police escort?” Maddock wrote on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

Four college basketball teams traveling to Detroit for the second weekend of the NCAA basketball tournament arrived by plane Wednesday evening, the Wayne County Airport Authority said in a statement. The “buses seen in a photograph circulating online were transporting the basketball teams and their respective staffs,” the statement added.

Maddock’s post drew swift criticism on social media, with multiple accounts noting that an earlier post on the Gonzaga men’s basketball team’s social media page had indicated their departure for Detroit, featuring an Allegiant plane.

She was running a "discounted fuel" business.
The probable cause statement said the other woman told police that that she paid to use the card for “discounted fuel.” Authorities believe the woman paid Thompson $500 for gas purchases that should have cost about $700.

Matt Maddock has a history of being as intelligent as you would expect.

https://michiganadvance.com/2023/08/12/ ... evolution/
“If the government continues to weaponize these departments against conservatives and the citizens that are then the taxpayers, you know what’s going to happen to this country?” Matt Maddock is heard asking the crowd.

Someone responded “communism.”

“The goal is communism, right?” Maddock continued. “Or Marxism, the Democrats’ dream, right? But what’s going to happen before that? Someone’s going to get so pissed off, they’re going to shoot someone,”’said Maddock. “That’s what’s going to happen. Or we’re going to have a civil war or some sort of revolution. That’s where this is going. And when that happens, we’re going to get squashed. The people here are going to be the first ones to go.”

Meshawn Maddock can be heard saying: “There are other electors here, but I didn’t want to out them. They’re just among the crowd and I didn’t know if they wanted to say anything, but it’s really better for none of us to say anything. Which is hard because I like to say shit.”

Michigan GOP Rep. Matt Maddock claimed "illegal invaders" were at Detroit Metro Airport. It was NCAA teams for Sweet 16

By DeJanay Booth-Singleton
Updated on: March 28, 2024 / 6:21 PM EDT / CBS Detroit

(CBS DETROIT) - Michigan Rep. Matt Maddock posted on X, claiming that buses were loading with "illegal invaders" at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport. But airport officials say it was college basketball players who arrived for the Sweet 16 games on Friday at Little Ceasars Arena.

The Republican lawmaker posted at about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday with pictures of the three buses outside of the airport. In his post, Maddock said, "Happening right now. Three buses just loaded up with illegal invaders at Detroit Metro. Anyone have any idea where they're headed with their police escort?"

However, a spokesperson with the Wayne County Airport Authority sent a statement to CBS News Detroit, saying, "The four men's basketball teams competing in the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16 at Little Caesars Arena arrived at DTW Wednesday evening. The buses seen in a photograph circulating online were transporting the basketball teams and their respective staffs."

Detroit is hosting two games Friday at Little Caesars Arena for the third rounds of the tournament. Teams who will be playing in the Motor City are Creighton vs. Tennessee and Gonzaga vs. Purdue.

In his post, Maddock tagged Michigan Republican Party Chair Pete Hoekstra, who has not yet returned CBS News Detroit's request for comment at the time this article was published.

Everyone in Japan will be called Sato by 2531 unless marriage law changed, says professor
Sato will become the only option by 2531, suggests modelling as part of campaign to overturn outdated law requiring spouses to have same surname

Justin McCurry in Osaka
Tue 2 Apr 2024 07.15 CEST

Japanese citizens will all have the same family name in 500 years’ time unless married couples are permitted to use separate surnames, a new study has suggested as part of a campaign to update a civil code dating back to the late 1800s.

The study, led by Hiroshi Yoshida, a professor of economy at Tohoku University, projected that if Japan continues to insist that couples select a single surname, every single Japanese person will be known as “Sato-san” by 2531.

Yoshida conceded that his projections were based on several assumptions, but said the idea was to use numbers to explain the present system’s potential effects on Japanese society to draw attention to the issue.
