I dunno, seems like the last time I watched that show, Biden stood on stage and told tfg to shut up. In those words.

That's indistinguishable from a Suranis post. :point:

I'm teasing, but the two of you are on the same page with regard to how our media fawn over Trump incessantly (and to the detriment of the country I love). And I think you both have an excellent analysis of the situation. In four or five billion years, I may start to cool down about the CNN town hall.

I have to admit that it's rather why I like the middle-of-the-road path taken by, say, the Queens Daily Eagle.

"Queens Man Runs for President Again" and stuff like that. Don't use his name in the headlines. Imply that he's not all that and a bag of chips, and certainly neither the Second Coming nor Antichrist.
But the sunshine aye shall light the sky,
As round and round we run;
And the truth shall ever come uppermost,
And justice shall be done.

Not that I have much use for the NY Post, but their coverage of tfg's announcement was the chef's kiss!

The presidential primary is a business for the media and the party not in power. They really can't have a presumptive nominee before there are 5-10 campaigns raising money and competing for ad buys. It's also a major recruiting tool to get BOTG for the general election. If there are no other viable GOP candidates, the media will make some.

In the 2016 cycle they got $100M out of Jeb Bush, and maybe half that off Ted Cruz.

This from the guy who has already said that a he will not participate in the Republican primary debates, because he didn't get to write the rules.

I may be wrong, but I don't believe that a sitting President has ever debated a "presumptive nominee" of the opposition party.

In fact, no Democratic presidential contender has ever debated a Republican contender before the nominating conventions.

Its unsurprising that TFG doesn't know this, but that's not how debates work. Before the conventions, Democratic contenders debate other Democratic contenders and Republican contenders debate other Republican contenders. Only after each party chooses its nominee do the Democractic and Republican contenders debate.

The deepening radicalization of Donald J. Trump
Watch how the former president’s positions and rhetoric have grown more confrontational and extreme as he seeks a second term

In the immediate aftermath of Jan. 6, 2021, President Donald Trump stayed mostly silent, and when he finally delivered his farewell address to the nation, he disavowed the attack on the U.S. Capitol as something that “all Americans were horrified by” and “can never be tolerated.”

Now, as Trump seeks to return to the White House, he speaks of Jan. 6 as “a beautiful day.” He says there was no reason for police to shoot the rioter attempting to break into the House chamber, and he denies there was any danger to his vice president, Mike Pence, who was hiding from a pro-Trump mob chanting for him to be hanged. He has promised to pardon many rioters if he becomes president again.

On this and a host of subjects, from sexual assault to foreign and domestic policy, Trump’s positions have become even more extreme, his tone more confrontational, his accounts less tethered to reality, according to a Washington Post review of Trump’s speeches and interviews with former aides. Where he was at times ambiguous or equivocal, he’s now brazenly defiant.

Embracing extreme positions is nothing new for Trump: Since launching his 2016 campaign by calling Mexican immigrants “rapists” and then pledging to ban Muslims from entering the country, he has promoted divisive policies, made inflammatory comments and prompted constitutional showdowns with Congress and the courts. But a return to the White House, in Trump’s own articulation, would be his chance to take revenge on his political opponents and push even further on his most polarizing programs.

I'm guessing it will be a woman, with adolescent sex appeal, subservience and mushroom cultivation (not necessarily in that order) being the main KPIs.

Bill Barr wasn't slow and hesitant about going after Trump's political "enemies". He flat out said he would not go after Hillary Clinton because he saw no evidence that indicated she had engaged in criminal activity. He may not have been that specific about the Bidens but there is no way he wouldn't have jumped at the chance to prosecute either one of them if there had been any evidence of wrongdoing.
There's a lot of things that need to change. One specifically? Police brutality.

Well that's a semi-interesting tidbit.
Alan Blinder @alanblinder wrote: One bit that didn't make the article: Trump said he's hosting Boris Johnson for dinner this evening.
Maggie Haberman @maggieNYT wrote: "He is still casting aside objections from family members of Sept. 11 victims, some of whom believe Saudi Arabia played a role in the 2001 attacks, because, as he said Thursday, LIV tournaments are 'great economic development.'" Trump at his club via @alanblinder and GOAT…
(Biinder works for NYT and Haberman RT'd the Tweet.)
