“The three-minute video goes on to extol the benefits of the octogenarian's "visionary style", claiming he had guided more than 1,000 people to financial independence through his firm, Gallagher Financial Group, while also publishing a book, "Jesus Christ, Money Master".”

Revisionist history: Jesus chased the money changers out of the temple because he wanted a monopoly on that sweet sweet lending action.

Interesting options to consider. Like it was an insider job, with knowledge how to access the bathroom walls. Was the bathroom undergoing construction at the time of the heist? Or did the insider know how to access the drywall thru the ceiling panes? And was that lose bathroom applicance once considered the access point to the stash? So who had at the time access to the funds and is now not working any longer at the church, and has also lost the means to get to the stash? Endless possibilities for the detectives...

The cash and checks had been stolen from the former church building in 2014. A $25,000 reward was offered in 2014. No offer now. The $100,000 was the haul from one weekend.

BTW, as long as I am in this thread, I don't get the whole "mass shootings are because society has turned away from God" thing. So their God punishes those who don't put their butts in pews and prayer in their schools by murdering their children? And they want to praise this God and worship this God for that?

Re: Evangelicals Behaving Badly...
Joseph Campbell believed that the Bible, like the Bhagavad Gita, was originally intended as a kind of owners’ manual for society - how to teach children to be good citizens, how to be moral persons now that we are living together in groups - not as boundaries across which one must not step under penalty of offending God and being ostracized or worse.
Over time, men have co-opted the Words, interpreting them in the best light for their own self-aggrandizement and power, interjecting fear of God’s wrath as THE motivation for their version of moral behavior. In Campbell’s mind, those who insist (not simply believe, but insist) otherwise have failed the lesson and have not fully developed emotionally. They’re incapable of self-regulating and feel they can only behave morally with a firm hand, even an invisible one, in full control of their lives.
They aren’t to be trusted.

Huh... I never read "you should shoot X in the back of the head" in any Bible I've ever read. Mainly as Guns didn't exist back then.

If true, what is their excuse for shootings at churches and synagogues? Wasn't there one just a week or so ago at a church?raison de arizona wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 4:41 pm BTW, as long as I am in this thread, I don't get the whole "mass shootings are because society has turned away from God" thing. It would fit with their idea that satan is always trying to corrupt their people.. so still the fault of the non-believers and all the more reason to purge ungodlyness form the world.sugar magnolia wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 5:19 pm If true, what is their excuse for shootings at churches and synagogues? Re: Evangelicals Behaving Badly...
Also, what about those heathen socialist countries that don't have prayer, national anthems and pledges to the flag in schools, not to mention little or no Evangelicalism or even much Christianity in general, yet don't have have 14 mass shootings a weekend?

Let's see... that's because Satan has won the battle in those appalling (i.e. not America) countries, but the great American people is still fundamentally righteous and worthy of salvation so their god knows demonstrates his anger at their misbehavior with random mass slaughter to ensure Americans remain on or return to the rightful path.
How's that for roll-your-own-bollocks apologetics?

Synagogues are not filled with the right kind of people. Those churches? Also not the 'right kind' of people.sugar magnolia wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 5:19 pm

Everything boils down to 'not the right kind of people'.

Wife and self loved Joseph Campbell. His analyses of the common myths in religions were insightful, and to this accountant, spot on.

A Tennessee court has rejected a lawsuit by a Jewish couple suing the state government after being told that they couldn't undergo foster parent training through a publicly-supported Christian charity due to religious differences.
In a decision released June 27, a three-judge panel of the Chancery Court in Davidson County ruled 2-1 to grant a motion to dismiss the lawsuit filed by Elizabeth and Gabriel Rutan-Ram against the Tennessee Department of Children's Services and DCS Commissioner Jenifer Nichols.
The court rejected claims of discrimination.
The Rutan-Rams argued in a January lawsuit that they were denied access to foster training programs through the state-supported Holston United Methodist Home for Children because they were not Christian. The organization only offers foster training programs to couples who uphold Christian beliefs.
The majority concluded that the couple's legal claims were moot, as they were able to complete the programs and receive certification through DCS months after being rejected by Holston.
