On the photoshopped DeSantis dressed like the Green m&m, I wouldn't want to be in his white boots when Ms. Green sees that picture. She don't play.

I do not think those boots are walking all over anyone though.

You know, I have to say it. We were ragging on DeMantis for stopping everything for a photo op, but Biden did the exact same bloody thing. This morning I was playing a game with a girl from Florida and she was talking about how things were progressing, "but we had to stop everything for a while because the President was in town."

I mean whats the harm in someone just staying the hell away and letting people get on with the work, rather than cruising down for photos? But if you say that you will get crucified.

Biden was absolutely correct in going to Florida and having photo ops.

His presence reinforces the fact that the federal government is working with the state in order to repair the damage. It shows what happens when you have a Democratic president in charge.

If Biden had stayed away, even for the most perfect reasons, DeSantis and FoxNews would have been shouting from the rooftops that the federal government was doing NOTHING and Biden - and the whole Democratic party - didn't care about Florida.

Biden's presence potentially helps Democrats in the upcoming elections and that, ultimately, helps the whole United States, Florida included.

The POTUS visit to a disaster area also keeps it in the national news for a few extra days and can help attract more volunteers, donations, etc. Once the cameras go away, the nightly news people are moving on to the next thing.

DeSantis doesn’t want to be deposed on why he ousted Hillsborough’s state attorney

Sue Carlton, Tampa Bay Times
Fri, October 14, 2022 at 8:37 PM·

Gov. Ron DeSantis plans to resist giving a deposition in the case of the Hillsborough County state attorney he recently removed from office, court records show.

The governor suspended Andrew Warren in August, accusing the twice-elected Tampa-based prosecutor of refusing to enforce certain laws. Warren, who says his suspension was political, is suing in federal court to get his job back.

As attorneys prepare for the Nov. 29 trial in Tallahassee, court filings show Warren’s lawyer wants to depose the governor beforehand.

Depositions are a routine pretrial part of what’s called discovery — the formal process of exchanging information between the two sides about the witnesses and evidence they plan to present at trial. Warren’s lawyers intend to call DeSantis to the stand during the trial.

But court documents indicate the governor will assert what’s called the apex doctrine. That’s a rule that can protect high-level corporate executives and government officials — those at the apex of an organization —from the risk of unduly burdensome or even harassing depositions.

The idea is that a top official should not be subjected to a deposition unless they are “uniquely able to provide relevant information that cannot be obtained from other sources,” said a recent article in the Florida Bar Journal.

The doctrine’s purpose is to protect an official from harassment or pressure to settle a case, said Matt Devisse, a high-end commercial litigation attorney in Naples who is not involved in this case. It’s also to encourage people to run for office without the threat of constantly sitting through depositions, he said.

Court records indicate the governor “would be willing to produce a designated representative” instead. That person was not named.

Why Is Florida Gov. Ron Desantis Only Granting Voting Exemptions For Republican Counties?

Murjani Rawls

MATLACHA, FLORIDA - OCTOBER 05: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis speaks during a press conference on the island of Matlacha on October 05, 2022, in Matlacha, Florida. DeSantis delivered remarks about the completion of a temporary bridge to reconnect the island, and Pine Island as well, to the mainland.
Florida citizens are still trying to pick themselves up after the damage of Hurricane Ian. However, Florida Governor Ron Desantis has only elected to make voting easier for one million voters located in three Republican counties, according to the Washington Post. This comes as the 2022 midterm elections are only three weeks away.

Last Thursday, Desantis signed an executive order extending early voting days and allowing voters to send mail-in ballots from addresses not listed in voting records. It also suspends some of the requirements for poll workers. This only goes into effect for about 1 million voters in Lee, Charlotte, and Sarasota counties. With these counties, in particular, more than 450,000 of them registered as Republican. Lee County provided a 62,000-vote margin to DeSantis in the 2018 election when he slightly beat his Democratic opponent Andrew Gillium.

Being an educator in Florida just got a lot more dangerous.
Alex Wagner Tonight @WagnerTonight wrote: As of yesterday, anyone can file a complaint against any Florida public school teacher for anything they deem as indoctrinating their children about race or gender, and thereby cost that teacher not just their job but their ability to teach at public schools in Florida.
