And then this happened (yesterday in the early hours) at where I went when I chose to go north:

1 teen killed, 2 others and infant hurt in Lansing shooting this morning
The Lansing Police Department says that a 17-year-old girl was killed and two other people were found shot in the area of S. Cedar St. and Miller Rd. Friday morning.

An 18-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with a critical injury, and a 16-year-old boy was also shot and taken to the hospital with a serious injury.

In addition, a 10-week old boy was taken to the hospital with a critical injury that he got from the incident.

Lansing Police found all four people inside a car around 4:21 a.m.

The Lansing School District said in a release today that two of the students involved with the incident are former Lansing Eastern students, and one is a current student.

The shooting earlier this week occurred at the corner of Cedar and Aurelius, about a mile southeast of this shooting. The three streets create a triangle, and I live at about the midpoint of Aurelius.

Baytown vigil for homicide victim turns into 'nightmare' as gunfire kills 1, injures 13

https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/h ... =sftwitter
"We released the balloons and then boom, boom, boom," said Bernita Pace. "Nobody knew who it was coming from...It's a nightmare."

One person was fatally shot and 13 others were injured when an unknown suspect or suspects opened fire around 6:40 p.m. at an outdoor food truck on the 1400 block of North Market Loop, where the group was holding the vigil, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities on Monday identified the person killed as Disha Allen, a 25-year-old Humble woman. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Pace said her 36-year-old son Joshua Pace was among those wounded in the spray of bullets. She was standing next to him when he was shot in both hips. He remains hospitalized but is expected to survive.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — A man was accidentally shot dead inside his Savannah home on Dec. 5 by a child just under 2 years old, Savannah Police Chief Roy Minter confirmed Tuesday.

According to the Savannah Police Department (SPD), Dustin Walters was taken to Memorial Health where he later died. The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. inside a home on the 100 block of East 64th Street, between Habersham and Abercorn streets.

Minter said the toddler found the gun and fatally struck Walters, but would not disclose further details per the family’s request for privacy. SPD says the man’s family members were there when it happened.

“We grieve along with the Walters family,” Minter said Tuesday. “As a parent, I cannot imagine what this family is going through or will continue to go through in the coming years.

“What we want to make sure now is that parents are aware that although rare, these incidents can happen with tragic results. Please take this seriously and take the steps to ensure that you and your family members are safe.”

SPD continued to urge gun owners to lock up their weapons and to visit its headquarters or their local precinct for a free gunlock.

“This amplifies our need for gun safety,” Mayor Van Johnson said.

14-year-old arrested for Garland shooting that left 3 teens dead, 1 injured
By Alex Boyer

Police said a 14-year-old suspect is now in custody for the murders of three other teenagers at a Garland convenience store. Police are still looking for a man they want to question about the shootings.

GARLAND, Texas - Garland police have arrested a 14-year-old for shooting four teenagers, killing three of them, at a gas station.

The police department released video of the teen opening fire inside the Texaco station on Walnut Lane in Garland Sunday evening.

Police said he got out of the passenger side of a pickup truck, walked up to the front door and fired at least 20 shots into the store before getting back into the truck and leaving.

All the victims were teenagers between the ages of 14 and 17 years.

Police said two of them came into the store together. The Dallas County Medical Examiner identified them as 15-year-old Ivan Noyola and 17-year-old Rafael Garcia.

The youngest victim was 14-year-old Xavier Gonzales. Garland Police Chief Jeff Bryan said it appears he was just in the wrong place at this wrong time. He was ordering tacos for his family when he was killed.

The lone survivor was a 15-year-old store employee. According to his boss, he started working at the taqueria just last week.

Rodolfo Quevedo Sanchez said got a frantic call from the employee saying he had just been shot.

"The guy say, ‘Oh you need to come here quickly.’ I say, ‘Okay, I’ll be there 10 or five minutes as soon as possible. But when I come here the police is right there," the taqueria owner said. "I’m scared, man, because we work here like a family. I’m sorry that this happened. I apologize to the victims. I’m so, so sorry."

Garland police are looking for another suspect in a triple murder at a gas station. They've already arrested a 14-year-old for shooting four teenagers between the ages of 14 and 17.

Chief Bryan said investigators still trying to determine if this was a targeted attack.

"It’s difficult for me, for my officers and for my community because we want to know why we don’t have an answer to why we’re trying to comprehend this, and we don’t yet comprehend this. But we have a job to do," he said.

He would not elaborate on how they came to identify and arrest the 14-year-old suspect because the investigation is still ongoing.

Man Who Allegedly Drove Teen To And From Garland Convenience Store Shooting Charged With Capital Murder, 14-Year-Old Released To Parents
By CBSDFW.com Staff
December 28, 2021 at 6:00 pm

UPDATE: Garland Police ID Suspected Shooter In Triple Murder, Searching For 14-Year-Old Abel Elias Acosta

GARLAND, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – The alleged driver of the Dodge Ram, who arrived at the scene with the shooter and was seen leaving with the shooter inside the vehicle, turned himself in to Garland Police and was arrested Monday night, Dec. 27.

The pickup has also been located.

Richard Acosta Jr., 33, of Garland is charged with “capital murder – multiple persons.”

His bond is set at $1,000,000.

Detectives said the 14-year-old boy taken into custody earlier on Monday, has intimate knowledge of the shooting, and he is cooperating with the investigation.

Based on new information in the investigation, the 14-year-old is not being charged at this time, and has been released to his family.

“Now he still remains a person of interest, but there is information that leads to believe someone else may have pulled the trigger,” said Garland Police spokesperson Lt. Pedro Barineau.

This shooting appears to be in retaliation from a previous disturbance, and was believed to be a targeted attack on one or more of the persons inside the store, Garland Police said Tuesday, Dec. 28.

Police said they are still are actively pursuing leads and have executed several search warrants.

“We now believe that one or more of the victims who were shot inside the were involved in a previous disturbance with which, what believe to be the shooter who pulled the trigger,” said Lt. Barineau.

The shooting was captured on surveillance video.

It shows a shirtless boy or man with a handgun approaching the gas station store while crouched. He swings open the door and starts shooting from the doorway.

Lakewood Police Agent Ferris is my shero too, TRL. Belmar is our local shopping center. Mrs. Gneiss had finished her shopping there just an hour before the madness occurred.

A close friend and her sister were in a Belmar restaurant when the gunman walked in, went behind the bar and poured himself a drink. When confronted by the bartender he brandished a gun. After a couple of patrons approached the madman, he miraculously decided to leave.

It's surprising (or not) that this story didn't get much media attention. I think the national media has gotten a bit lazy or corporate editorial decisions are made to downplay this stuff. It seems like there are 3 stories that just get beaten to death and you have to really work to see what else is going on in the world. Information Age, Ha!

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Two gunmen fired more than 65 rounds on a Philadelphia street, sending nighttime pedestrians on a busy block teeming with markets and restaurants scrambling for cover and injuring six people, at least one of them critically, police said Friday.

Police responded around 11:30 p.m. Thursday in the Germantown neighborhood and found a 21-year-old woman shot multiple times in the abdomen and chest and lying near dozens of spent casings. Officers rushed her to the hospital, where she was in critical condition Friday.

Five men ages 19 to 29 were taken with gunshot wounds by private vehicles to two hospitals, police said. All were expected to survive.

Officers are looking at surveillance footage, Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters late Thursday.
