Interestingly, as a kid in the 1960s and 70s who went to several large schools with many doors and windows, we had nada school shootings. Why was that???Slim Cognito wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 6:51 pm HARDEN THE MANUFACTURING FACILITIES!!!! GET RID OF THE DAMN DOORS!!!

AR-15s had still to be invented. Re: Another Shooting
At a media level, well, the people who were being killed in schools were not upper middle class suburban white kids, so it was not news. School violence was either a 'minority problem' or 'punching down'. It was not till Columbine and it's 'affluent white male on affluent white male' angle that networks, advertizers, thought leaders, and police trainers discovered that it resonated in a way that they could monetize.pipistrelle wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 7:34 pm Interestingly, as a kid in the 1960s and 70s who went to several large schools with many doors and windows, we had nada school shootings. (Charles) Whitman stabbed his mother, Margaret Elizabeth Whitman, to death at 12:30 a.m. on August 1, 1966. He then stabbed his wife Kathleen Leissner Whitman to death, at 3:00 a.m. on the same day.[8][9]: 53 [10][11] In a note typed just hours prior to the murders, he professed his love for both women, saying he had killed them to spare them future humiliation and suffering.[4]: 92–94 [12]
Later that morning, Whitman rented a hand truck and cashed $250 (equivalent to $2,100 in 2021) worth of bad checks at a bank. He then drove to a hardware store, where he purchased a .30 caliber Universal M1 carbine, two additional ammunition magazines, and eight boxes of ammunition, telling the cashier he planned to hunt wild hogs.[9]: 32 At a gun shop he purchased four more carbine magazines, six additional boxes of ammunition, and a can of gun cleaning solvent.[13] At Sears he purchased a Sears Model 60 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun before returning home.[14]
Whitman then packed into his footlocker a Remington 700 6-mm bolt-action hunting rifle, a .35-caliber pump rifle, the M1 carbine, a 9-mm Luger pistol, a Galesi-Brescia .25-caliber pistol, a Smith & Wesson M19 .357 Magnum revolver, the shotgun, of which he had sawn off the barrel and buttstock, as well as more than 700 rounds of ammunition. He also packed food, coffee, vitamins, Dexedrine, Excedrin, earplugs, jugs of water, matches, lighter fluid, rope, binoculars, a machete, three knives, a transistor radio, toilet paper, a razor, and a bottle of deodorant.[9]: 31 He put khaki coveralls on over his shirt and jeans.

The gunfire ended when a parishioner subdued a man, 71, who opened fire inside an Episcopal church in Vestavia Hills, the police said.
What started out as a relaxing potluck dinner at an Episcopal church in Alabama on Thursday evening took a sudden and deadly turn when a man pulled out a handgun and opened fire, killing three people, the authorities said.
The gunfire inside the Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Vestavia Hills, Ala., ended when a fifth person subdued the gunman and held him down until the authorities arrived, Capt. Shane Ware, of the Vestavia Hills Police Department, said at a news conference on Friday.
That person, whom the authorities did not identify, “was extremely critical in saving lives,” Captain Ware said. “The person that subdued him is a hero.”

Not clear he was a member, or even a regular. I think he had attended a few services.

A 15-year-old was killed and three people, including a police officer, were shot Sunday amid a Washington, D.C. street event that police said was “unpermitted.”
Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee told reporters Sunday night that several hundred people gathered for the Juneteenth advocacy and music festival called “Moechella,” repeatedly referring to it as an “unpermitted event.”
Contee said police moved to break up the event after a fight and another incident led to several people being trampled and injured. A firearm was recovered after the second incident.
Later, shots were fired among the crowd, police said.
Four people were shot, including a police officer and a juvenile. Three adult victims, including the officer, were in local hospitals recovering, and a 15-year-old boy died, Contee said.
Police said they recovered several firearms from the area, including one from someone who was shot.
“We certainly want to make sure people are held accountable when they hold unpermitted events in our city,” Contee said Sunday night. “This is one of the reasons why.”
None of the victims have been identified by police and Contee did not mention a suspect.
According to Moechella’s Instagram page, the event was a Juneteenth “peaceful demonstration” with several musical artists performing on U Street, a historically Black neighborhood in the nation's capital.
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser called for accountability during a press conference Sunday night.
"We have a child who was killed today at an event that did not have any proper planning," Bowser said.
"We need some accountability here."

https://www.fox5ny.com/news/couple-kill ... t-orphanedCouple killed in dispute over dog, baby left orphaned
A 6-month-old Connecticut baby is now orphaned after their parents were killed in a dispute over a neighbor's dog. A third person remains in critical condition.
The shooting took place in Hartford around 9 p.m. on Sunday. It started as an argument and then it turned deadly.
Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin said it was "hard to find the words" to react to the killings.
The slain victims were identified as Christina Dang, 27, and Chase Garrett, 39. The injured woman who was hospitalized has not been identified.
"We have to find better ways to resolve our conflicts," Hartford Police Chief Jason Thody said.
No arrests have been made. Police say they have identified a person of interest in the shooting.

Re: Another Shooting
No shooting thank God but it was close and this is an intense video at the link.
https://www.abc15.com/news/national/vid ... off-gunmanVIDEO: Michigan man holding his 7-month-old baby fights off gunman
Surveillance video captured the frightening moment a Detroit, Michigan, man, holding his seven-month-old baby, was able to fight off a gunman.
It appears the gunman's pistol jammed or malfunctioned and that's when the 25-year-old father was able to use his left hand to push the man outside of the gas station and lock the door while his baby remained fast asleep in his right arm.
"It's difficult to watch. I mean, it's just no regard for human life or for the life of a child," said Detroit Police Commander Michael Chambers.

Is that a cigarette dangling from his mouth while holding his baby?
Full credit for thwarting an attempted robbery. But at least crush that smoke while you have your baby in your arms. Or maybe it was unlit, but still. . . .

Yes, it is. It reminds me of an attempted crime at a bar where one of the patrons did something heroic while never losing his smoke.humblescribe wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 4:53 pm Is that a cigarette dangling from his mouth while holding his baby?
