PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Two gunmen fired more than 65 rounds on a Philadelphia street, sending nighttime pedestrians on a busy block teeming with markets and restaurants scrambling for cover and injuring six people, at least one of them critically, police said Friday.

Police responded around 11:30 p.m. Thursday in the Germantown neighborhood and found a 21-year-old woman shot multiple times in the abdomen and chest and lying near dozens of spent casings. Officers rushed her to the hospital, where she was in critical condition Friday.

Five men ages 19 to 29 were taken with gunshot wounds by private vehicles to two hospitals, police said. All were expected to survive.

Officers are looking at surveillance footage, Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters late Thursday.
My Son, DIL, the Grands and the grand pup returned home last night after a week visiting us in SW Ohio. They live about 4 blocks from where this occurred. Germantown Friends school where the DIL teaches and the Grands attend is even closer. This is the second Shooting on Germantown ave. since they moved from south Philly 4 years ago. Scary!

Toddler Accidentally Shoots Mother, Infant Sibling at Granbury Walmart, Police Say

https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/toddl ... t_DFWBrand
A woman and her infant child are injured after a toddler accidentally fired a gun at a Granbury Walmart on Wednesday.

According to the Granbury Police Department, officers responded to an incident at the Walmart on U.S. Highway 377 at 11:25 a.m.

Police said a one-year-old child and a three-month-old child were inside a vehicle at the time of the incident. The mother of the children, a 23-year-old woman, was standing outside next to the driver’s door while the father, a 26-year-old man, was standing at the rear of the truck.

The one-year-old child is believed to have picked up a handgun that was concealed between the seat and center console, causing the gun to discharge once, police said.

Speaking of toddlers with guns...
Father arrested in connection with toddler's accidental shooting death in Phoenix

The father of the toddler who was accidentally shot and killed in Phoenix Wednesday afternoon was arrested in connection with the death.

He has been identified by police as 29-year-old Joshua Lewis.

Phoenix police responded to reports of an accidental shooting at an apartment complex near 19th Avenue and Thunderbird Road, according to police spokesperson Sgt. Andy Williams.

When officers arrived on scene, they found the toddler with a gunshot wound. The male toddler was taken to the hospital in critical condition, Williams said.

The toddler died as a result of his injuries. He was identified by police as Kayden Lewis.

Investigators learned that the boy's father kept a loaded gun in a place easily accessible to the toddler, Williams said.

Lewis was later booked into a Maricopa County jail on suspicion of one account of child abuse.

One of my coworkers got a call from her daughter about the shooting today at the school. Thank goodness, one injured with NON life threatening injuries. It still counts, there should never be any kids bringing guns to school, regardless of whether they succeed in killing anyone.
SANFORD, Fla. (NBC) – A student was shot inside Seminole High School in Sanford, Florida on Wednesday. The suspect is in custody.

A spokesperson for the Sanford Police Department said the injured male student, who was shot inside the school building, was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The incident happened just before noon.
There's a lot of things that need to change. One specifically? Police brutality.

Firefighter in California fatally shot while putting out dumpster fire, officials say

Antonio Planas and Phil Helsel
Tue, February 1, 2022, 6:51 AM

A firefighter in California was fatally shot Monday while putting out a dumpster fire, officials said.

Capt. Max Fortuna, a veteran firefighter with the Stockton Fire Department, was killed on the job, according to a statement from Stockton Fire Chief Richard Edwards, who said he was "devastated."

Edwards said Fortuna and other firefighters were extinguishing the predawn blaze in Stockton, about 80 miles east of San Francisco, when shots rang out.

"I’m devastated to report that Veteran Fire Captain Max Fortuna has succumbed to his injuries," Edwards said.

"Captain Fortuna served the City of Stockton for 21 years and leaves behind a wife and two grown children. I ask you to keep Captain Fortuna’s family and the Stockton Fire Department family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

Fortuna and other firefighters responded to call about a dumpster fire at about 4:45 a.m. Monday. Once they were on the scene, firefighters found a dumpster fire threatening a structure, Edwards said.

"As firefighters were extinguishing the fire, gunshots were heard, and the Fire Captain of Engine 2 had been struck," Edwards said.

Officer Joe Silva, a Stockton police spokesman, said late Monday afternoon that police had detained a 67-year-old man who is suspected in Fortuna’s death.

"We have the person who did the shooting in custody," Silva said.

Police Monday night said detectives arrested Robert Somerville, 67, on homicide and weapons charges in connection with the killing.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 ... man-killed
A man opened fire in a Greyhound bus Wednesday evening, killing a 43-year-old woman and wounding four others as the vehicle stopped in northern California.

As the Los Angeles-bound bus stopped at an AM/PM convenience store in Oroville, a 21-year-old passenger who had exhibited “paranoid behavior” began shooting while people exited, according to officials in Butte county, where the incident took place. Shortly after, police arrested the suspect, naked, inside a nearby Walmart.

“Last night was an extraordinary event in our small town of Oroville, a mass shooting – something we have not had in the community,” said Mike Ramsey, the district attorney, at a press conference Thursday morning.

Five (!) cops shot! If only there were more gunz on the streets, this never would have happened! They could have armed the infant, and then it could have defended itself!

Also, wtf.
9 officers, 1 woman hurt in shooting incident near 54th Avenue and Broadway
The suspect involved in the standoff has died, according to police.
:snippity:
An officer went to the house to help the injured woman and was invited inside by the suspect. The officer refused to enter, and was then ambushed by the suspect, who opened fire, hitting the officer multiple times.

The officer was able to get back to safety as additional crews arrived and surrounded the residence to call out the people inside, spokesperson Sgt. Andy Williams said at a Friday morning press conference.

A man was then seen coming outside the front door, placing a baby outside the home as the situation was unfolding. The man then went to officers who detained him.

Williams said as officers moved in to secure the infant, a suspect inside the home opened fire again, striking four other officers with gunfire. Four additional officers were also hit indirectly with either ricochets or shrapnel.

The baby is said to be OK.

“Rust shooting: Lawsuit alleges Baldwin 'recklessly shot' Hutchins”:

“Alec Baldwin "recklessly shot and killed" cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust last year, a lawsuit from her family has alleged.
Ms Hutchins, 42, died last year during a scene rehearsal after a gun held by Baldwin discharged a live round.
Baldwin is one of several defendants named in the wrongful death lawsuit.
Lawyers for the Hutchins family said she would still be alive if crew members had not cut corners.”

Someone with small children planning to go out at midnight? I dunno, it's a :pickle: but I don't like small children out and about at the time, no good can come of it.

But yeah. Totally beside the point, doesn’t matter the reason.
Fleeing a shooter, juvenile is shot by man at gas station in Little Woods, police say

A group of children fleeing from a shooter in Little Woods escaped to a gas station, where an elderly man shot at them because he thought they were shooting at him, police said.

Police responded to the aggravated battery by shooting at around 9:22 p.m. Tuesday. A group of juveniles were walking in the 7000 block of Crowder Boulevard when an unknown suspect started shooting at them, police said.

The children fled to a nearby gas station, where they startled an elderly man. He thought the group of juveniles was shooting at him, so he shot his gun at them.
