I think this is one of the more chilling quotes from the piece:
Earls attorneys extended their condolences to the Alvarez family, but also said they believed Earls did what 'anyone in that situation would have done.'
So the grand jury agreed that 'normal' people consider it reasonable to chase down a robber with the intent of killing them and fire wildly into a vehicle because they THINK their target might be in it.

Wait, if you are 'defending your property' you get to kill uninvolved people with no consequences?

Time to get the hell out of Texas.

The grand jury must have been very worried about how consequences might interfere with their power fantasy.

I thought these stand-your-ground laws did not include pursing a suspect and shooting at them when they are fleeing?

Texas is the wild-wild-west. Give it back to Mexico -- the the cartels sort it out.

Since the day it was passed--a grossly flawed law* that got through wherever it got through as a license for gun-toters we* like to intimidate and kill anyone they want with impunity.

Iowa is pretty solid RED and filled w/ RWNJs once you step outside the most populous counties.

From the cbsnews link,
Using a plane to help search the area, law enforcement later found Sherwin dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a wooded area of the park. He came from Nebraska, and investigators don't believe he had any prior relationship with the victims, Mortvedt said.

Mortvedt said he could not say whether the suspected gunman had a criminal record. A search of online court records in Nebraska and Iowa did not produce any record of prior criminal behavior.
OK, WTAF?

Woman Is Shot and Arrested After Opening Fire at Dallas Love Field
The shooting sent travelers scrambling for cover inside the airport, but no other injuries were reported, the authorities said.

By Jesus Jiménez and Steve Cavendish
July 25, 2022 Updated 2:51 p.m. ET

A 37-year-old woman was taken into custody on Monday after she fired several rounds inside Dallas Love Field Airport in Texas before she was shot and injured by a police officer, the authorities said.

No other injuries were reported, the police said, but the shooting sent travelers scrambling for cover and delayed several flights.

The woman, who was not identified, was dropped off at the airport just before 11 a.m., went to a ticket counter, and then appeared to change her clothes in a restroom before emerging and opening fire inside the airport, Chief Eddie Garcia of the Dallas Police Department said at a news conference on Monday afternoon.

A police officer inside the airport shot her, striking her “in the lower extremities,” and she was arrested and taken to a hospital, Chief Garcia said. Her condition was not immediately clear on Monday afternoon.

It was unclear whom or what the woman was aiming at when she fired. Chief Garcia said that the officer fired several rounds at her after she began shooting.

Denver cop’s guns found during son’s attempted murder arrest

by: Rob Low
Posted: Jul 28, 2022 / 09:09 PM MDT Updated: Jul 28, 2022 / 09:09 PM MDT

LITTLETON, Colo. (KDVR) — The son of a Denver Police officer has been charged with 14 crimes, including nine counts of attempted murder.

Samuel Rose, 17, has been charged as an adult for a pair of house shootings. He confessed to them to a friend over the social media app Snapchat.

His father, Denver Police Detective Asher Rose, faces an internal affairs investigation for possibly violating department rules on the improper storage of department-authorized firearms.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies found two handguns in the possession of Samuel Rose when they arrested him June on 16 — guns his father said belonged to him.

According to court documents obtained by the Problem Solvers, Asher told deputies the guns “had been taken without permission from his gun safe at home.”

Teen flaunted guns on social media

The first shooting Samuel Rose is accused of doing happened on May 13 around 1:22 a.m.

He’s suspected of firing four to five shots into the home of a 17-year old boy he was targeting, and it’s believed he specifically shot toward the bedroom window of that boy.
:snippity:
The next shooting happened two days later, on May 15, around 10:27 p.m. A single shot was fired through the bedroom window of a 15-year boy sitting at his computer playing a video game.

Organizers Reportedly Pull Plug On Music Festival Due To Georgia's 'Open Carry' Gun Laws

Organizers canceled a music festival in Atlanta on Monday in part due to Georgia’s “open carry” gun laws, sources told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Music Midtown, which was scheduled to take place over two days in September and feature artists such as Jack White, Future and Fall Out Boy, posted a tweet on Monday saying the festival was canceled “due to circumstances beyond our control”.

According to the AJC, the organizers’ decision involved a 2014 law that expanded the areas where gun owners were authorized to openly carry firearms. The 2014 Safe Carry Protection Act gives gun owners the right to carry firearms in most public areas without restrictions. The law even allows school districts and religious leaders to decide whether to allow openly carried firearms on school grounds and religious sites.

A 2019 Georgia Supreme Court ruling — and an appellate court ruling this year upholding the decision — have made it more difficult for private groups to restrict guns from events on public land in the state, the newspaper reported.

Mall of America….

I would expect the sound of gunfire would be just par for course.

Perhaps gunfire should be the new US national anthem.
