Five? I can beat that. Barely made the news, but last night here there were nine people shot in an incident, three of which are life threatening. But no one died (yet,) so no biggie. One local station covered it with a couple paragraphs, as far as I can tell.
Found an updated story: https://www.12news.com/article/news/cri ... a60d9375ab
Update is that one of the victims has died. These are all young people aged 18-24.

When I first moved here, Fort Myers used to have an annual ZombieCon street fair a couple of weeks before Halloween and it was a blast.

Then some fuckhead decided to "shoot into the crowd" killing one and injuring several others and that was the end of ZombieCon. It took years but I think they finally arrested someone, maybe it was the guy, maybe not, who knows any more, but they ended up writing it off to gang violence IIRC, perhaps an initiation? Maybe Neon remembers better.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Chattanooga Police Chief Celeste Murphy says a chaotic scene left 14 shot and 3 people hit by vehicles outside a Chattanooga bar early Sunday morning.

A total of 3 people lost their lives: Two died from gunshot wounds, and a third died after a vehicle trying to get away from the scene ran over them.

Speaking at a news conference just after 11 a.m., Chief Murphy says investigators believe more than one person opened fire.

Traffic stops = danger
A long time ago, my dad was an officer with the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police). He stopped a car for speeding/reckless driving. When he came back to the car from his cruiser after checking the driver out, the driver had shot and killed himself. There was evidence that he was on his way home to kill his wife and then himself when my dad pulled him over. I’m just grateful he didn’t decide to kill my dad before killing himself.
That's why I think they're dangerous — you may not know what you're dealing with. Your dad saved the wife's life.
I said that to my dad. I said she must have been grateful to you. He said she didn’t see it that way. :brokenheart:

Taser manufacturer drops proposal to put armed drones in schools after mass resignation from ethics board

Taser maker Axon Enterprise says it is halting work on a project to equip drones with stun guns to combat mass shootings, a prospect one member of its AI ethics board said was prompting a mass exodus from the panel.

Key points:
The company surprised its own ethics board by announcing the proposal to have taser-armed drones in schools
The chief executive said he was disappointed board members resigned before discussing their objections
The ethics board said it had already voted against a proposal for a taser-armed police drone
The May 24 school shooting in Uvalde, Texas that killed 21 prompted an announcement by Axon last week that it was working on a drone that could be operated remotely by first responders to fire a taser at a target up to 12 metres away.

It said the drones could fly in schools and "help prevent the next Uvalde, Sandy Hook, or Columbine".

However, the company's ethics board objected strongly to the project, releasing a statement calling the idea a "notable expansion" on plans it had already voted against.

Ethics board member Wael Abd-Almageed told Reuters on Sunday he and eight colleagues were resigning from the 12-member panel, in a rare public rebuke by one of the watchdog groups that some companies have set up in recent years.

Later, founder and chief executive Rick Smith announced the project was on hold.

How could the drone have stopped Uvalde?

Does it also have a 'hand' grenade to blow upon the locked door?
Has everybody heard about the bird?

Played a "Tex Murphy" video game some years ago where one of the levels required piloting what we would now call a drone thru HVAC ducting. Amongst the challenges was getting thru a vent grating into a room. Had to go find a screw driver and then manipulate it to remove the grating cover. Took me hours to do it.

Folks, you all missed the marketing ploy. Teachers do not want to carry. Therefore not one drone per school but a drone per school room, bathrooms included. Of course the gunman will be preoccupied and not hear the drone start up with a loud whizzzzz. But how did ghe drone know a gunman entered the room and not a janitor with brush and bucket. Who to shoot at? Perhaps all large people, considered adults, teacher collateral damage. Police storming the room with blazing guns also considered attackers by the drone? Or the gunman is at the otherside of the wall and the drone waits an hour for instructions, but drops long before from the limited skyline cause batteries run low?
