Good on you Foggy (and Wifehorn).

There is still a small issue with the cats understanding. But you will deal with it.

The decision to keep Mom in her own home and have me move in with her and take care of her was a good one, I have no regrets at all. She was doing better within a very short time after bringing her home. She had a raging UTI that was never discovered when she was at rehab and I was able to discover that on day one upon bringing her home. Day one. And within days of getting a proper antibiotic she was mentally and physically so much better I was already thinking about step two, which was getting her to the point where she could get herself on and off a bedside commode by herself. And it happened.

No matter how good they are, nobody is really doing to notice all those tiny little differences in behavior and ability that family will notice immediately. Especially if it's a member of the family that actually cares. :bighug:

Sorry to hear your dad was back in the hospital, but it sounds like the change being made will be a very good one--for all of you. :bighug:

Well, he's still in the hospital, so this won't happen before the end of the year. And we have to get him to agree to it, which might be a problem but most likely not. The thing is, ol' Wifehorn wants to break it to him in person, and we won't get up there until a few days before Xmas. So there's plenty of time to work on it and plan for it. It won't be easy, but I think it will work ... and give him a longer life. So, we'll see. Or as I'm fond of saying, more will be revealed. :batting:

Brava, Wifehorn! Bravo, Foggy!

The best decision we ever made, aside from marriage, kiddos, how to raise the kiddos, cats, dogs, and horses, was taking care of Hubby's mom when she was in hospice for her breast cancer. We stayed in her home 100 miles from ours. It was the most sacred journey I have ever experienced.

I think your Dad will love it.

ETA: The last words Charlotte said to me were "thank you". She struggled to speak. The last words to Hubby were the same. :lovestruck:

So we drove up here again yesterday and my dad's doing well. But we can't get in to see him until 11 am.

My dad needs a wall poster to give him something of a reputation. I like this one.

Another visit, the last one before the Grand Opening of My Right Leg.

He looks sharp and sounds good. I think the plan to move him to our house is no longer operable. He's going to get back into his assisted living place.

Got to the hotel, they gave us a room but the lamps wouldn't light - dead bulbs.
We got a different room and it is 40° F in the damn room. :smokeears: I'm heating it up now. Then dinner. Then visit my dad a lot, we leave at 7 am sharp Wednesday.

The hotel gets a bad review. :blackeye:

He’s your Dad, so you can call him whatever you want, but I’m saying Happy Birthday to Admiral Dadhorn. No. Make that Admiral Dadhornblower. See what I did there?

NO! Get your mind out of the gutter. :fingerwag:

I was thinking of C.S. Forester’s beloved character Horatio Hornblower, who, like Admiral Dadhorn, rose to the rank of Admiral.

Horation Hornblower is a fictional British Naval figure first in printed page, then radio plays, television, and even made for TV movies.

As played on film by Gregory Peck. A most appropriate name.

That's nice, but I am his son and namesake, and I can't call him by a rank he never carried. He'd be disappointed. I do have an alternative, since after he left the Navy he obtained a doctorate in computer science at GWU. So I can call him Doctor Commander Dadhorn, or maybe Commander Doctor Dadhorn.

He sounded sharp on the phone. Can't wait to see him again.

For some reason we’ve been calling him Admiral. Don’t know why. Well, he’s Admirable at any rate.

Glad he sounded good!
