Trump attorneys claimed Supreme Court justices were considering joining scheme to overturn election

[A] group of emails obtained by the Jan. 6 committee and covered by The New York Times reveals another aspect of the scheme going on in the White House: Eastman, in exchanges with Trump attorney Kenneth Chesebro, claimed that there was a “heated fight” among the justices of the Supreme Court over whether to hear one of Trump’s claims of election fraud, which would help bolster Eastman’s plan. The two attorneys then discussed how they might get another case in front of the Supreme Court before Jan. 6, with Eastman claiming that there was an argument among the justices over supporting such a scheme.

Included in that exchange is an indication that Trump’s “Be there. Will be wild!” tweet was intended not just to inflame his supporters, but to pressure the court into action. And the whole exchange seems to have been predicated on Eastman’s “personal knowledge” of the Republican justices—a personal knowledge that included a series of emails with Ginni Thomas, wife of Justice Clarence Thomas.

The new emails show that Ginni Thomas’ involvement in Eastman’s scheme was even more extensive than previously known. Most critically, the letters between Ginni Thomas and Eastman indicate that the plan to overturn the election extended into an attempt to sway the Supreme Court—an effort in which either Eastman or Ginni Thomas was apparently in direct communication with those on the court.

But the exchange between Chesebro and Eastman ignores any thought that they will win the case, or even get on the court docket, based on the merits of the case. Instead, it makes it clear that this is explicitly about getting Supreme Court justices to go beyond the law and participate directly in Eastman’s plan to end democracy. The effort, wrote Eastman, was not “based on the legal merits but an assessment of the justices’ spines, and I understand that there is a heated fight underway.”

If there was a "heated fight" would it have likely been between Roberts and Thomas?

A January 6, 2021, rioter pleaded guilty Friday to carrying a loaded firearm on US Capitol grounds and assaulting police officers with one of their own batons during the insurrection.

Mark Mazza, who told federal investigators he regretted not seeing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during the riot and that they would “be here for another reason” if he had, faces a maximum of 20 years for assaulting officers with a dangerous weapon.

Jan. 6 hearings have revealed a ton of new material. Here's a recap
According to the plea agreement, Mazza, 57, carried a revolver loaded with shotgun and hollow-point rounds in a holster under his shirt during the “Stop the Steal” rally and on Capitol grounds that day.

Well, losing MORE faith.

This will complicate plea negotiations between Justice Dept and some Jan 6 defendants. Especially some high-level defendants

Some have already touted possibility of future Trump pardons

Yeah, the GOP should put out a fundraiser that for a mere $45 dollar donation, when the next GOP candidate becomes president, ALL DONORS will receive a pre-emptive, UNCONDITIONAL presidential pardon for ALL CRIMES they may have committed or may IN THE FUTURE commit. I'm sure they would rake in billions.

That's legal innit? I'm sure SCOTUS would hold such pardons valid as long as the pardon is for a conservative?

After watching that video I'm really hoping to see that 20 year sentence for 18 U.S. Code § 2384. I hope every single person in that gets charged with Seditious conspiracy, because that looks like a pretty good description of what they were trying to do.

The insurrection in question.

Edit: Or not. Whoops.
US Capitol Police arrest Stephen Colbert staffers at House office building, charged with illegal entry
The individuals associated with 'The Late Show With Stephen Colbert' were arrested at the US Capitol complex on Thursday night

The U.S. Capitol Police arrested a group of staffers with CBS's "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" after they allegedly illegally entered a U.S. House of Representatives office building on Thursday night, Fox News has learned.

The group of nine people were arrested in the Longworth House Office Building after being escorted out of the Jan. 6 committee hearing earlier in the day because they did not have proper press credentials, according to sources.

The same group resurfaced later on Thursday night after the Capitol complex was closed to public visitors and Fox News is told that they took videos and pictures around the offices of two Republican members of Congress, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy R-Calif. and Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo.

Anti-vax advocate Simone Gold get 60 days in prison for Jan. 6 insurrection

June 17 (UPI) -- Dr. Simone Gold, one of the leading voices in the anti-vaccine movement, was sentenced to 60 days in prison after entering the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack by supporters of former President Donald Trump.

Gold, the founder of America's Frontline Doctors, a group that has advanced conspiracy theories connected with the coronavirus vaccines and the pandemic, entered a misdemeanor guilty plea in March for unlawfully entering and remaining in a restricted area of the U.S. Capitol.

U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper on Thursday sentenced her to the 60 days, plus 12 months of supervised release and a $9,500 fine.

In the sentencing, though, Cooper slammed Gold and Frontline Doctors for their characterization of what happened Jan. 6.

"Your organization is leaving people with the misimpression that this is a political prosecution or that it's about free speech," Cooper said Thursday, according to CNN.

"It ain't about free speech. Jan. 6 was about a lot of things, but it wasn't about free speech or COVID vaccinations. ... The only reason you are here is where and when and how you chose to express your views."

Yes some Jan 6 defendants have spoken openly about future "Trump pardons"

In fact, one Jan 6 defendant who faces sentencing Thursday talked about pardons.... while amid the mob during the siege, according to Justice Dept

Moar from Judge Cooper:

https://www.motherjones.com/politics/20 ... s-in-jail/
Insurrectionist Anti-Vax Doctor Simone Gold Was Just Sentenced to 60 Days in Prison
The judge found her fundraising off her crime “unseemly.”

But US District Court Judge Christopher Cooper was not persuaded by Gold’s credentials nor her claims of remorse for her actions. “You were not just a casual bystander,” Cooper told her, noting that he didn’t believe that she had “truly accepted responsibility” for her role in the riot that day.

As evidence, he pointed to fundraising language on her group’s website calling her prosecution a “political prosecution” and an attack on free speech. He also read from several of the dozens of nearly identical letters he has received from her supporters all claiming that Gold had done nothing more than exercise her free speech rights. Her group’s website site, he said, is “mischaracterizing what this proceeding is all about. That’s not why we’re here. January 6th was not about free speech or Covid.” He told Gold that while he had heard a great deal about this from her and her supporters, “What I haven’t heard is anything about the five people who died that day, the four people who commit suicide” because of the trauma of the event, or the terrorized members of Congress and their staff who were in the building being threatened by the mob she was part of.

During the hearing, Cooper disclosed that he had also received a letter from Kristina Lawson, the president of the California board of medicine, which is considering revoking Gold’s medical license. Lawson urged him to throw the book at Gold, who she alleged has organized a major harassment campaign against her since her indictment on the January 6 related charges. “Her actions have provoked and inspired menacing threats against me from individuals across the country,” Lawson wrote. “I have been stalked and accosted at my home and place of employment, causing great anxiety and fear. Through Simone Gold’s acts of attempted intimidation, she continues to seek to undermine public officials and the role of our government as she did with her participation in the violent insurrection on January 6, 2021.”

But Cooper was unmoved [by Gold's testimony and tears]. “I find it unseemly that your organization is raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for its operations and your salary based on your participation in January 6. It does a real disservice to the victims of that day.”

I think not. He pointed it out in his opinion by using the word "unseemly". IMHO, a federal or state prosecutor would have to investigate and bring charges.

A statement from CBS said: “Triumph the Insult Comic Dog was on-site at the Capitol Wednesday and Thursday with a production team to record interviews for a comedy segment” on behalf of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

The spokeswoman said the group’s interviews were authorized and had been arranged through aides to the members of Congress interviewed.

After leaving an office on the day’s last interview, the spokeswoman said, the production team “stayed to film stand-ups and other final comedy elements in the halls when they were detained” by officers of the Capitol Police.
Apparently, they stayed too long, and the building had closed to visitors

I've been seeing this trend for several days now:
Staff affiliated with Stephen Colbert's Late Show arrested at US Capitol for illegal entry
I get the feeling someone's pushing it as the equivalent of January 6. See, lefties do it too!

I wonder how long this will trend.
