Trailing Point
Pocket Knife Blade Shapes - Trailing Point - A trialing-point blade has a back edge that curves upward to end above the spine. This allows a lightweight knife to have a larger curve on its edge and provide a larger cutting surface. This design is optimized for slicing or slashing and is common on skinning knives and filet knives.

 It's been a while and :oldlady: memory, but wasn't it Roots who went and climbed one or more of those mountains in Mexico without proper equipment? Or was it another poot?
That was him. That was a departure from his customary rants about how climate change is a hoax, and how glaciers in national parks are actually not melting.

TY, I thought that was him. What a fool, those big mountains are not something to fool around with.

NEW: Capitol riot arrests continue.

Feds announce charges against Patrick O’Brien of Montana, who is the latest defendant accused of bringing a younger family member with him.

Justice Dept says O’Brien was inside Capitol w/ his “juvenile son”, while waving Gadsden flag

Just stepped into the Barnett trial.

Defense attorney Brad Geyer just asked Judge Cooper to note the intense “mask compliance” of the prosecution and how it might be influencing the mask-conscious jury. (Defense side is not masking)

Judge didn’t seem enthused by the comment.

Trump is asked to give a message of hope to the J6 prisoners. He says they are patriots, and what’s happening to them is a disgrace since Antifa and BLM burned down all our cities and nothing happened to them.

Actually, ANTIFA burned down Berlin and a good part of Europe west of there, but we rebuilt it and put most of them out of power.

Of the ones who stood trial, quite a few were hanged, so in my mind these guys are getting off easy.

‘Stop the Steal’ Founder Tipped Off Paul Gosar to Brewing Violence on Jan. 6

Tim Dickinson
Fri, January 13, 2023 at 3:20 PM GMT+1

The founder of “Stop the Steal” delivered an early warning about the violence soon to overwhelm the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 in a text to the chief of staff of Rep. Paul Gosar, according to a deposition released by the Jan. 6 Committee.

Ali Alexander is a far-right agitator who was one of the key mobilizers of the protest that morphed into the insurgency of Jan. 6, 2021. After making an early exit from the Ellipse rally he’d helped organize — at which Donald Trump demanded his backers march on the Capitol — Alexander became an eyewitness to the chaos unfolding as insurrectionists breached the Capitol perimeter.

“People were scaling the wall like Spiderman,” Alexander testified to the Jan. 6 committee. “I’ve never seen anything like that.”

But Alexander didn’t just stop and gawk. He took time to sound the alarm to Gosar, one of his top House allies. “I think you and your staff should maybe leave,” Alexander texted Gosar’s chief of staff, Thomas Van Flein. “This is hell out here.”

This partisan early warning is cited in the Jan. 6 committee’s 236-page deposition of Alexander, and has not previously been reported. That message, and other details from Alexander’s and related depositions, offer new clarity into the Stop the Steal movement’s links to both far-right paramilitary groups and far-right MAGA lawmakers, including Gosar, Lauren Boebert, and Marjorie Taylor Greene.

The committee questioners pressed Alexander about his relationship to the Arizona congressman/dentist. “Dr. Paul Gosar and I share political beliefs about election irregularities,” Alexander responded, citing the baseless conspiracy theory that the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump. Alexander then added that Gosar is “a friend to the movement” and “a stellar dude.”

A questioner for the committee sought to clarify Alexander’s warning text: “So you thought Mr. Gosar and Mr. Gosar’s staff was in danger?” Alexander responded: “I thought that they could potentially be in danger … if this escalated.” He added, “I knew a lot of people in Congress. I wouldn’t want them hurt. So I said ‘I think you and your staff should maybe leave.’ Now in retrospect,” Alexander conceded, “that’s stupid because where were they going to go?” There was, of course, no safe exit from the Capitol on Jan. 6. — as it was soon overwhelmed on all sides by the dead-end Trump supporters Alexander had summoned to the Capitol.

In this week's court filing in Jan 6 case of Chris Alberts, feds say: "He wore a bullet proof vest containing metal plates, camouflage fatigues, a gas mask, a tactical radio, and holsters containing a fully loaded firearm and magazines with 25 rounds of hollow-point ammunition"

Hollow points are designed to expand in the target. They cause a lot more damage than a full metal jacket round.

They are also less likely to blow through someone or something and so are said to be “safer” to everyone else but the person shot.

They are also more accurate.
Not a huge consideration at the ranges likely inside the US Capitol building and with a handgun

Jacketed Hollow Point rounds have a large central cavity at the tip with the intent that, with hydrostatic shock, the round will expand and flatten substantially.

It does NOT "explode", the intent is that the round creates a larger wound cavity and dumps more of the kinetic energy into the body as opposed to punching through and taking that energy downstream.

However they are not as universally effective as they are regularly advertised as, if the cavity gets plugged by material such a cloth from clothing, the hydrostatic driven expansion does not occur and the round is then functionally identical to a non Hollow Point round.

The round is also NOT more accurate than a full metal jacketed round although the effective accuracy, over the typical handgun ranges is similar

Rifle rounds labelled Hollow Point Boat Tail ( which are frequently seen in match grade ammunition) may be being confused and are not actually "hollow point", a by product of the drawing of the copper jacket over the lead core leaves a very small void and a pin prick hole in the tip of the round.

I was, gun and ammo are so over my head. Closest I ever was to a gun was when I was in the jury box and the officer in full gear walked up to the witness box. :oldlady: :towel:

Capitol rioter who stormed Senate chamber to 'plead the blood of Jesus' acquitted on obstruction charge because the judge said he had a 'unique stew in his mind'

Kenneth Niemeyer
Sun, January 15, 2023 at 7:07 PM GMT+1

A judge acquitted Joshua Black on one count of obstruction.

Black was convicted on five other charges, including unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon on Capitol grounds.

Black is set to be sentenced on May 5, according to court documents.

A federal judge acquitted a Capitol Rioter on one obstruction charge while convicting him on five other charges because she said he had a "unique stew in his mind."

U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson said that Joshua Black had a "unique stew in his mind" that made her unsure of whether he was aware that his actions were unlawful in her ruling on Friday, Politico reported. Jackson found Black not guilty on one count of obstruction of an official proceeding, court documents show.

Black was convicted of entering and remaining in a restricted building, disorderly conduct in a restricted building, unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon on Capitol grounds, disorderly conduct in the Capitol building, and impeding passage through the Capitol grounds, according to court documents.

Jackson found Black not guilty on one count of obstruction of an official proceeding. Black is the first Capitol Riot defendant who reached the Senate Floor on January 6 to be acquitted of the obstruction charge, according to Politico.

Photographs from inside the Capitol Building on January 6 showed a person "wearing a red hat, camouflage jacket, and yellow gloves, who appears to be bleeding from his left cheek" that federal agents believed to be Black, according to a criminal complaint.
