I was surprised to learn that hollow point-bullets are outlawed in international warfare.
The Hague Convention of 1899, Declaration III, prohibited the use in international warfare of bullets that easily expand or flatten in the body. It is a common misapprehension that hollow-point ammunition is prohibited by the Geneva Conventions, as the prohibition significantly predates those conventions. The Saint Petersburg Declaration of 1868 banned exploding projectiles of less than 400 grams, along with weapons designed to aggravate injured soldiers or make their death inevitable.

Despite the widespread ban on military use, hollow-point bullets are one of the most common types of bullets used by civilians and police, which is due largely to the reduced risk of bystanders being hit by over-penetrating or ricocheted bullets, and the increased speed of incapacitation.

I have no idea whether this is true, but I imagine their real purpose is to be more "lethal" in advertising so people will pay more for the Ammo.

Advertising can be costly…

From wiki link

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollow-point_bullet

Winchester's "Black Talon" product name was eventually used against them. After the high-profile 1993 101 California Street shooting in San Francisco, media response against Winchester was swift. "This bullet kills you better", says one report; "its six razorlike claws unfold on impact, expanding to nearly three times the bullet's diameter".

So, how can a defendant be acquitted on a charge due to his acknowledged ignorance of the law? He was unsure? This seems to me to be specious at best. The sequence of events just does not justify such a conclusion:

Was he unaware that Congress was meeting? Was he thinking that this unruly mob would extend courtesy to the joint session to let them conclude their official acts in peace while he and his elk were going about destroying property and wreaking havoc? Did he think that while he and others were armed with various weaponry that no one else would be intimidated by their aggression?

This was a chain reaction. You cannot acquit on one charge if it is a direct result of a series of related and continuous events when guilt is found.

So says I.

Kyler Joseph Bard arrested Missouri. Called officers protecting the Capitol “a bunch of pieces of shit” after he tried to assault a cop but was repelled, per feds.

Judge says Jan. 6 rioter who broke into Capitol followed "Trump's instructions"

Story by Shawna Chen •

A federal judge said Tuesday that a California woman who breached the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 insurrection "followed then-President Trump’s instructions" in breaking the law.

:snippity:

What they're saying:
Before the Jan. 6, 2021, rally on Jan. 6, MacAndrew tweeted at him "that she too felt that '[t]raps had been set' in the '#RiggedElection' of 2020," District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly wrote in the 18-page opinion. "And at the 'Stop the Steal' rally, then-President Trump eponymously exhorted his supporters to, in fact, stop the steal by marching to the Capitol.
  • "Defendant marched to the Capitol where, she testified, she understood that only Congress had the power to fix the election’s outcome and that Congress was likely in session while she was around and in the Capitol," Kollar-Kotelly said.
  • "Every step of the way, from the western boundary of Capitol grounds, to the West Lawn, to the Upper West Terrace, to the interior of the Capitol itself, she saw sign after sign that her presence was unlawful," Kollar-Kotelly said. "Nevertheless, heeding the call of former President Trump, she continued onwards to 'stop the steal.'
  • "Having followed then-President Trump’s instructions, which were in line with her stated desires, the Court therefore finds that Defendant intended her presence to be disruptive to Congressional business."

One thing DOJ was able to elicit from Barnett's wife was testimony that she saw his cell phone in his possession when he returned from D.C. The cell phone was not turned over to police during his arrest and has never been located.
Bigo took the stand in his own defense. Scott MacFarlane is following.

Richard Barnett throws some shade at Trump. Barnett testifies he went to Jan 6 White House Ellipse rally … but didn’t like Trump’s speech

Barnett says Trump “just whined a lot. I just wanted to go straight home”

(He didn’t go straight home.. he went to Capitol next)

As telegraphed by the defense, Barnett claimed on the stand the stun feature of his Hike 'n Strike walking staff had become inoperable by Jan. 6. He suggested he might have dropped it in the shower. The staff, like his cell phone, was never recovered.

Barnett talks so fast he got into a mini tiff with the court reporter, who is struggling to keep up. McBride has been teeing up lots of opportunities to talk about how much he loves America/the constitution and wouldn’t harm anyone. He hasn’t discussed going into the Capitol yet.

Once the attorney began a tiff with the court reporter when asked to slow down and/or not talk over others, etc., a good judge would have shut the attorney down very quickly.

Richard “Bigo” Barnett’s first brush with fame, his viral moment, came during the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, when, he said, he was “pushed” into the building by a surging mob and began wandering around, eventually finding himself in then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s deserted office suite. Clad in jeans and a ball cap and carrying a high-voltage stun device in his waistband, he kicked back in a swivel chair and plopped his left foot, shod in a size 11 work boot, atop a staff member’s desk.

Fast, informative and written just for locals. Get The 7 DMV newsletter in your inbox every weekday morning.
Barnett, 60 at the time, was a sales employee of a construction business who had driven to D.C. from rural Arkansas to help save the country from “the liberals,” he later told FBI agents. In the House speaker’s outer sanctum, he reclined at the desk with an air of nonchalance, like the company boss, grinning and holding forth as a photojournalist snapped one of the most widely viewed images from that day’s riotous attack on a joint session of Congress.

An alleged trespasser, in repose.

“Nancy, Bigo was here, you b----,” he said he wrote in a note, leaving it on the desk before departing with an item that didn’t belong to him: an empty envelope addressed to a House Democrat and bearing the digital signature of Pelosi (D-Calif.). “I put a quarter on the desk even though she ain’t f----ing worth it,” he shouted hoarsely outside the Capitol, displaying his souvenir for video cameras.
Gifted link. Should be moar fun tomorrow as recross continues

Yeah, my bad, but it still appies, a good judge would have shut that down in a heartbeat.

A Jan. 6 defendant who famously propped his feet on a desk in then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Capitol suite urged jurors Friday to consider his behavior the actions of a “fucking idiot” — not a criminal.

Richard “Bigo” Barnett, who took the stand in his own defense, grew heated with prosecutor Michael Gordon after Gordon spent hours picking apart Barnett’s story. Gordon pressed Barnett whether he believed he would get away with his actions because of his hubris. A frustrated Barnett shot back: “I think the jury’s going to do what they want to do.”

“I’m going to suffer the consequences,” Barnett added, “but I hope they see I didn’t break the law and acted like a fucking idiot.”

3 Active-Duty Marines Who Work in Intelligence Arrested for Alleged Participation in Jan. 6 Riot

Konstantin Toropin
Thu, January 19, 2023 at 11:46 PM GMT+1

Three Marines were arrested Wednesday for their participation in the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, according to court documents unsealed Thursday.

Micah Coomer, Joshua Abate, and Dodge Dale Hellonen -- three men identified by investigators as active-duty Marines -- were arrested on four charges each stemming from their participation in the mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol in a bid to prevent the certification of Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 presidential election.

The three men are the first active-duty military members to be arrested in connection with the siege since Marine Maj. Christopher Warnagiris, who was taken into custody in May 2021 on nine charges. All three Marines, who were arrested more than two years after the attack, work in jobs connected to the intelligence community.

They were each charged with knowingly entering a restricted building, two counts of disorderly conduct, and parading or picketing inside the U.S. Capitol.

A Marine Corps spokesman confirmed that the service is "aware of an investigation and the allegations" and added the service "is fully cooperating with appropriate authorities in support of the investigation."

According to the complaint filed by federal prosecutors, investigators first learned of the three men when they found photos from inside the Capitol that Coomer had posted on Instagram including "the caption 'Glad to be apart [sic] of history.'" A search warrant was issued for his social media accounts in August 2021.

After officials identified Coomer, they used video and images from inside the building that day to identify Abate and Hellonen as well, according to court documents.

Later, investigators explained that all three men's identities were confirmed by comparing their images in the videos to their driver's licenses, as well as their military identification card photos.

According to court documents, the trio spent just under an hour milling about the Capitol, including the Rotunda, where they put "a red MAGA hat on one of the statues to take photos with it."
