A key figure in the pro-Trump “Stop the Steal” campaign has apologized after being accused of asking teenage boys for sexual pictures. Ali Alexander has become one of the most ubiquitous figures in the MAGA movement. Trump himself reportedly requested that Alexander speak at his rally before the riot, with his appearance only quashed by a last-minute intervention from Trump’s aides. But this week, Alexander stands at the center of a scandal that raises questions about how powerful men in the far-right treat their younger acolytes. “This is so gay,” Alexander said in a statement issued Friday night that addressed the allegations in broad terms. Alexander, who has described himself as bisexual in the past, added that he was “battling with same-sex attraction.”

The budding online scandal has also roiled the pro-Trump and white supremacist “America First” movement, just months after it reached new levels of notoriety after its leader, Nick Fuentes, dined with Donald Trump and rapper Kanye West at Mar-a-Lago. Now Fuentes is facing backlash from his own supporters over whether he ignored warnings that Alexander, his friend and ally, was allegedly soliciting nude pictures from young men within Fuentes’s movement.

On Friday night, Alexander—who was questioned by the House Jan. 6 Committee about his role organizing a canceled rally dubbed the “Wild Protest” outside the Capitol, which drew crowds to the building right before the riot began—issued a statement Friday offering a general apology. “I apologize for any inappropriate messages sent over the years,” Alexander wrote, adding later, “When I’ve flirted or others have flirted with me, I’ve flexed my credentials or dropped corny pick up lines. Other times, I’ve been careless and should’ve qualified those coming up to me’s (sic) identities during flirtatious banter at the start.” Alexander didn’t respond to requests for comment from The Daily Beast. In his statement, he claimed he had also been targeted by false accusations and edited screenshots of his messages, but declined opportunities to point out which accusers or screenshots aren’t legitimate.

Rumors about Alexander’s alleged sexual behavior towards younger men have circulated in conservative online circles since at least 2015. But they reached a new level late last month after Milo Yiannopoulos —the controversial British provocateur and one-time Alexander ally—turned on Alexander after Alexander and Fuentes pushed him out of a potentially lucrative position in West’s nascent presidential campaign. Yiannopoulos started releasing video interviews and other evidence meant to prove that Alexander sexually propositioned both adult men in their 20s and at least two teenagers. Yiannopoulos, whose own career as a far-right pundit imploded in 2017 after remarks he had made downplaying the seriousness of pedophilia surfaced, claims he has more damaging videos to release about Alexander and Fuentes. Yiannopoulos claims he’s releasing the video against Alexander because Alexander dropped Yiannopoulos’ name to entice young men. One screenshot purports to show Alexander dangling the prospect of a meeting with Yiannopoulos to a teenage boy. “The reason I’m doing this is because he used my name,” Yiannopoulos told The Daily Beast.

‘Who Will Be My Arm Candy’
In 2017, Aidan Duncan—a 15-year-old boy in Colorado interested in right-wing politics—sent Alexander nude pictures after the MAGA activist asked him for them, according to an account Duncan gave in a March 2023 podcast appearance. While Duncan was a high-school sophomore just starting out in politics, Alexander was a 32-year-old with a decade of political work for the Republican Party behind him. And now he was willing to share the connections he had gained through that work with Duncan, as long as the teenager met certain preconditions, including secrecy. “You’ll have [me] sharing my entire network with you,” Alexander told Duncan, according to Snapchat screenshots reviewed by The Daily Beast.

Originally from Dallas, Alexander pleaded guilty to felony property theft in 2007 and felony credit card abuse in 2008. But despite his criminal background, Alexander—who was then using his legal name, Ali Akbar—managed to rise in the GOP during the online conservative backlash to the Obama administration. Leveraging his position writing for blogs with names like “Hip Hop Republican,” Alexander received funding from billionaire conservative mega-donor Robert Mercer, organized a national club for bloggers that later faced questions about how Alexander spent the money he raised, and hosted an annual party at the Conservative Political Action Conference. By 2017, Alexander had become an ardent Trump supporter with a passion for social-media trash talk. He became a protege of MAGA figures like Roger Stone and InfoWars chief Alex Jones, and ran with a group of other young MAGA internet provocateurs, including anti-Muslim activist Laura Loomer and blundering smear artist Jacob Wohl.

But in his messages to Duncan, according to the screenshots, there was one name Alexander dangled as a perk for the teenager if he kept up contact with Alexander: Milo Yiannopoulos. In a Sept. 4, 2017 exchange about an upcoming trip Alexander was planning, Alexander purportedly told Duncan he would introduce the teenager to Yiannopoulos and speculated about whether the boy would be Alexander’s “arm candy” and suggested the boy would have to be “entertaining.” “Rolling with me?” Alexander wrote, according to the message. “Mostly. I’ll have an Entourage. Depends. Ha. I mean, depends—if it’s me babysitting you during the day, then no. I don’t have kids. If it’s something more entertaining, then maybe. All depends on what we’re up to. No matter what, I’ll let you meet Milo. There’s probably five ppl I’ll introduce to him. But who will be my arm candy—the one with me always in VIP and in/out? Well that is to be determined by the boy who plays his cards the most correct.” “Arm candy > baby sitting,” Alexander added, according to the screenshot.

Other screenshots show Duncan sending Alexander a picture, which was redacted in the version of the screenshot reviewed by The Daily Beast. Alexander responded with the “face with heart eyes” emoji and asking the teenager which app Alexander should use to send him money. An undated series of screenshots purport to show Alexander laying out rules for his contact with the teenager, many of them stressing secrecy and a sort of quid pro quo relationship between sexual availability and career opportunities. “Everything is secret and private,” one rule read. “We’re family.” Another said that Duncan was “allowed to say no,” but that Alexander might “deprive” him of something unspecified in return. “Boundaries are cool,” the message reads. “Allowed to say no. However, the less you deprive me of, the less I deprive you of. I’m a big sharing person unless it’s not even.” Finally, according to the messages, Alexander asked Duncan to “be mindful of each other’s reputation.”

In an appearance last month on a podcast hosted by white supremacist Richard Spencer, Duncan claimed that Alexander wanted him to fly to Texas and “be his intern,” assuring the teenager that the boy could just lie to his parents and say that he was going to a swim meet. But Alexander had grown frustrated by May 2019, claiming that the still-underage Duncan wouldn’t send him “good jack off material,” according to the screenshots. “You don’t even send me videos anymore,” Alexander wrote, according to the message. “No good jack off material. Don’t even wanna be my side piece.” A day later, according to the screenshots, he asked Duncan to come to Texas for a week for an “internship.” Duncan, now 21, has since become a relatively high-profile member of Fuentes’s racist “America First” movement, going by the name “Smiley.” On Spencer’s podcast, Duncan said he believed Fuentes knew about the rumors about Alexander’s alleged solicitation of nude photos. “I think Nick is 100 percent aware,” Duncan said on the podcast. Last Thursday, Duncan posted a statement on Twitter about his communications with Alexander. “When I was 15 I was naive and desperate,” Duncan wrote. “I thought I had no choice but to cooperate with inappropriate and humiliating requests if I wanted to make it in politics. I figured that was just the nature of the game.”

‘Show Me Your ...’
Alexander started messaging 17-year-old Lance Johnston in the summer of 2019, according to Johnston. The floppy-haired teen was a rising star on conservative TikTok communities, amassing more than 140,000 followers under the screenname “Lancevideos.” Johnston and Alexander started exchanging messages about politics. Johnston claims that a friend warned him early into their communications that Alexander has a history of asking for sexually explicit pictures. “My friend at the time had told me that he had heard some weird rumors about him,” Johnston told The Daily Beast. “At first I was kind of like ‘I don’t know.’ I was 17, I had just gotten into politics.” Alexander moved “oddly quickly” towards discussing sex with the teenager, according to Johnston. In July 2019, in what Johnston claims was the night of the White House “Social Media Summit” where Trump feted Alexander and other conservatives as victims of online censorship, the 34-year-old Alexander used the eggplant emoji to ask the teenager for a picture of his penis, according to a screenshot. “Show me ur [eggplant emoji] ” Alexander wrote, according to the messages. “What’s that?” Johnston said. “Omg dick,” Alexander wrote back, according to the picture.

Johnston says he refused and quickly blocked Alexander. Johnston took a screenshot of the exchange, but he was fearful of raising the issue more broadly on the far-right. “I thought in my mind that he would try his best to try to discredit me and ruin me politically and influentially with my time in politics,” Johnston said. Still, a friend of Johnston’s publicized the screenshot, which began circulating in conservative circles. Alexander took to a video livestreaming app to defend himself. “You can have any conversation you want with someone who’s 17,” Alexander said. The eggplant-emoji screenshot gained new circulation in far-right circles in 2022, as Alexander and Fuentes achieved prominence as members of West’s entourage. That’s when, Johnston claims, Fuentes asked him to say in a text message to Alexander that the screenshot had been doctored and apologize. Presumably, that text message could then itself be screenshotted and used to discredit Johnston. “Nick personally asked me to apologize to Ali for supposedly faking the messages,” Johnston said. But Johnston insists the eggplant screenshot is legitimate. In exchange for disowning the eggplant exchange, according to Johnston, Fuentes and Alexander offered to get him a job in politics.

“Basically they wanted me to lie, apologize to Ali, and then they said they would try to get me a job,” Johnston said. Fuentes denied Johnston’s claims about him in an email to The Daily Beast. “I never offered Lance Johnston a job nor did I urge him to disavow that screenshot,” Fuentes wrote. In a post on the social media app Telegram, Fuentes claimed Johnston was using the screenshot to “extort” Alexander into giving him a job on West’s campaign. Four years later, Johnston thinks Alexander used his prominence in the MAGA movement for “very creepy” ends. “No person like Ali should be even near politics,” he said. ‘The Real
Victim In This Entire Saga Is Me’
Alexander, who has described his ethnicity as half-Black and half-Arab and says he’s bisexual, might seem like an unusual ally for the avowedly racist and homophobic “America First” movement led by Fuentes. But Fuentes, a 24-year-old who marched at the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville with a long history of racist, antisemitic, and sexist remarks, has appeared frequently with Alexander at events like a “Stop the Steal” rally in Georgia in 2020. The pair would later become arguably the most prominent far-right figures in West’s short-lived, virulently antisemitic presidential campaign after Yiannopoulos’s ouster. In text messages reviewed by The Daily Beast, Yiannopoulos warned Fuentes in broad terms about his ally’s reputation. “Alexander wants to come to your events to have sex with underage boys,” Yiannopoulos wrote in a January 2022 text to Fuentes. “Snap out of it. “

As the allegations mounted against Alexander over the weekend, Fuentes said he “disavowed” Alexander’s actions and called them “gross,” but accused Yiannopoulos of sitting on the claims until he could use them to get revenge on his rivals from the West campaign. In a Telegram post, Fuentes also blamed Duncan and Johnston for “flirting” with Alexander to advance their careers. “[Duncan] and Lance were willing to go along flirting with Ali (to varying degrees) without any protest because they thought it would advance their political careers,” Fuentes wrote. “If you are flirting with adult gay men because you think it’s going to land you a job, you know full well what you’re doing and it’s gross. Sorry but even at 15, I would have never sent nudes to an adult gay man. There’s something wrong there.”

Fuentes added that “the real victim in this entire saga is me.” In a self-pitying post, he referred to himself as an “incel”—internet slang for “involuntarily celibate.” “Sounds like everybody involved got what they wanted,” Fuentes wrote. “Except me, the incel, who is now somehow being blamed for things I had nothing to do with.” This isn’t the first time Fuentes’s racist group has been dogged by accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior regarding children. In August, Fuentes associate Alejandro Richard Velasquez Gomez was arrested and charged with possessing child pornography. Velasquez, who went by “LatinoZoomer” online and has been photographed with Fuentes, also faces charges over allegedly threatening a conference held by a rival conservative group.

The accusations against Alexander and his apology have already alienated several far-right figures. Anthime Gionet, the far-right provocateur known as “Baked Alaska” who was recently released from a prison term for his role in the Capitol riot, posted a statement Sunday saying he would not “working with Ali in any capacity moving forward.” “So Ali admitted to sending inappropriate messages and flirting with young boys?” pro-Trump rapper Bryson Gray tweeted. “Disgusting.” Despite his Friday night apology, Alexander struck a more defiant tone hours later in a bizarre, late-night Telegram audio livestream from what appeared to be a karaoke bar. As an amateur performance of Billy Joel’s “You May Be Right” played in the background, Alexander told an acquaintance that his life had become a “reality show” revolving around one question: “Implode or not implode.” Asked by someone on the stream whether he wanted to perform karaoke, Alexander demurred. “I’m in the middle of a scandal,” Alexander said at one point. “I can’t do karaoke. I’m in the middle of a scandal that I’m going to survive.”

Couple sues Lauren Witzke for saying birth of their surrogate twins is 'human trafficking'

A Texas couple is suing Delaware right-wing activist Lauren Witzke after she accused the two men of human trafficking and pedophilia in response to the men posting about the birth of their surrogate twins on social media. Experts say the lawsuit's filing can be seen as a cautionary reminder of limits people have when trolling online, even when it involves social media influencers such as Eric Vaughn — the owner of a Houston hair salon who happens to have nearly half a million TikTok followers. "If you tell a vicious lie about someone, as Lauren Witzke has done in the case of Eric Vaughn, the person can sue you for defamation," said Juliet Dee, a University of Delaware associate professor of communication, who focuses on First Amendment law. "If one avoids telling vicious lies about someone whom one has never even met, one will not be a defendant in a defamation suit."

Witzke, who ran for U.S. Senate and lost to Chris Coons in 2020, said she will defend efforts to quash speech criticizing the LGBTQ community. "It was Mr. Vaughn that publicized, aired, and broadcasted the statements he now complains caused him 'Injury' and I will vigorously defend any effort by the LGBTQ Mafia to chill the speech of anyone who criticizes them," she said in a written statement. "Anyone with $125 can file a lawsuit but that doesn't make it meritorious, and I look forward to the immediate dismissal of this action, followed by a request for costs, sanctions, and attorney's fees against the plaintiffs and their council. Also, my attorney and I are currently considering our options to see whether we can have Mr. Buzbee deemed a vexatious litigant, where he will have to seek permission from the chief justice of a court before he will be allowed to file any more of these frivolous lawsuits, which are an unprecedented abuse of the judicial process."

Vaughn filed his defamation lawsuit last week in Texas' District Court of Harris County, where most of Houston is located. In addition to seeking no more than $75,000 in damages, Vaughn said he filed the legal action to make an example of Witzke and discourage her from spewing such comments about anyone in the future. "We're fighting for our family," Vaughn told Delaware Online/The News Journal. "We're fighting for every LGBTQ person out there who's ever been attacked like this online. We're fighting for anybody who has had to do adoption or surrogacy to start their family because her statements attacking us attack all of those people as well." "These are incredibly damaging things that are said," the professional hairstylist said. "It's a message that this is just not OK."

According to the lawsuit, Vaughn chronicled his and his husband's journey through the surrogacy process on social media — the same place their eventual surrogate reached out to them offering to help them start a family after the men tried for two years to adopt. Vaughn's other social media posting on the processes included announcing in October that his surrogate was pregnant with twins and a February message that the twins had been born prematurely at 32 weeks. In late February, Vaughn shared a video showing him and his husband holding their 32-week-old "preemie twins" as a family for the first time. Seventeen days later, the lawsuit claims, Witzke reposted Vaughn's video to her Twitter account saying, "A new fetish with pedophiles consists of robbing babies from their mothers straight out of the womb. This is human trafficking and would be illegal in a sane society."

"Rather than congratulating Plaintiff on one [of] the happiest moments in his life, or perhaps just ignoring Plaintiff’s happy post, Defendant instead decided to spew hate and lies on the internet in an unprovoked and harmful manner," Vaughn's lawsuit said. "Defendant’s allegations of pedophilia and trafficking of human persons is so vile and obviously harmful that Plaintiff’s reputation may never recover." Witzke's posting is "especially reckless," according to the lawsuit, because in Texas someone convicted of indecency with a child is not only a felon but may be subject to civil commitment in a mental institution.

Shortly after Witzke's posting, Vaughn hired Houston attorney Tony Buzbee, who has represented several women who reached a settlement with the Houston Texans football team last year after they accused NFL quarterback Deshaun Watson of sexual misconduct. Buzbee also represented former Texas Gov. Rick Perry when that state's highest criminal court dismissed a case involving abuse-of-power accusations. Buzbee told Delaware Online/The News Journal it's a crime to falsely call someone a pedophile or human sexual trafficker and that such words are libel in Texas. "This is the type of hate this woman spews," he said. "There is nothing rational to say in response — her words demonstrate the type of person she is." Witzke told a Houston's FOX 26 TV anchor that her "tweet is a representation of my beliefs and I truly believe what I say. I have a right as a Christian to my opinion." Witzke's justification for her post was also quoted by the TV station: "So they posted it publically on their social media. When you post your depravity, you are going to get reprimand, welcome to the Internet."

While freedom of speech is protected by the U.S. Constitution, the nation's legal system comes down on speech that makes false accusations against a person or business. But compared with private citizens, public officials face greater challenges in bringing defamation claims by those making the false statements. But Dee, the UD associate professor, doesn't think Vaughn is a public figure even though he put himself out on social media and some of his postings have received millions of views. Despite his posts on social media, Dee said, Vaughn still qualifies as a private figure because:

His name is not a household word.
He has not "thrust himself into a public controversy," as the U.S. Supreme Court qualifies this.
Vaughn does not have access to the media to respond to Witzke's attack on him.
"If Eric Vaughn were to hold a press conference, the media would not show up because no one has ever heard of him," Dee said. "So from a legal standpoint, he is a private person, and he would merely have to show that Lauren Witzke is negligent in her defamatory comments about him."

Buzbee said Witzke had been asked to withdraw her comments, but that she declined. "Most people would shut up and apologize," Buzbee said. "She doubled down. We will let a Houston jury decide now."

The Akbar matter is still raging. For the past few days, I've gone down the rabbit hole of the Ali Akbar / Milo / Nick Fuentes insanity. I've learned a lot. Hadn't really looked into Nick Fuentes (who is now 25 or close to it). His Telegram is https://t.me/nickjfuentes. Seems America First is imploding, he's naturally made terrible decisions. Even Milo took him to the woodshed in some hilarious text messages that have been leaked:

There are two platforms they stream on: Nick's Cozy.tv, and the anti-Nick guys at odysee.com. Jaden McNeil, a handsome and funny former "groyper" who was either fired (says Nick) or walked out (says Jaden) became famous (and ultimately kicked out of college) when, a month after George Floyd was murdered, tweeted congratulations for being drug-free for a month. Jaden regrets his actions and his life has been basically ruined, not just from his actions, but from Nick and the groypers (the word for Nick's followers, these are supposedly young Catholic white nationalist men) who are determined to destroy anything he tries to do (job, back to college, etc). As we've pointed out about guys like Jacob Wohl, since the internet is forever, these youthful "indiscretions" are much more serious than in our era. These actions will follow them around for the rest of their lives (see Dalton's crying about it below).

Jaden is very good-looking and his streams are entertaining, he doesn't pull any punches and plays back the ridiculous streams of guys like Nick and comments on them. Interestingly, the "lieutenants" Nick has chosen in the past all have the same archetype. There are serious questions, even in the groyper community, whether Nick is closeted gay. They point to all kinds of "evidence", including Nick's close relationship with Akbar and Milo (Nick spent the night in a hotel room with Milo) and all kinds of other things they call out. Nick is an "incel" which is a term for "involuntary celibacy". It's a strange term that can be used as an insult, a description, or a badge of honor.





Jaden is rightfully over-the moon angry about having "gay pedophile" Akbar deeply embedded with young Catholic boys; between Akbar and Milo it's often been referred to as a "pipeline" for pedophiles. From the evidence, that's not untrue. Meanwhile, Nick streams on his Cozy platform, https://cozy.tv/nick. He gets about 4-5K groypers on his streams and commands them to "JUICE" certain content (ratioing tweets he doesn't like, being nasty to certain people, etc.) Incredibly, Akbar still has a channel on Cozy: https://cozy.tv/ali. There's only one archived stream, but to still allow an admitted pedophile to be on the network for young men is just... just...ridiculous. Nick has even said at some points he's had to "play ball" with Akbar and made other excuses.





Nick's been totally inconsistent about Akbar, Milo, Jaden, and almost everything. Supposedly, Nick was talking to Akbar every day because of Ye 2024. There are some campaign records that they got paid -- Milo got $50K off Ye. But since the infamous Trump dinner, Ye has been focused on his new wife and his strange school that only serves sushi (!). So Ye 2024 seems like a made-up fantasy, recent stories say Ye just wants to be "left alone" and is done with politics (at least for now). His 2020 campaign was just a Trump-inspired head-fake to reduce democratic votes, that's why the white nationalists were juicing Ye.

So, the two sides are in a death match. On the Nick side, there are insane sideshow characters like Ethan Ralph, a Cozy streamer who is in his late 30's and openly admits he's high on Xanax all the time. In one stream, he completely forgot who he had just spoken with. Ralph is currently defending himself in California on a contempt charge with something regarding custody of his son. Ralph is the joke of all the non Groypers, a buffoon who calls himself "Ralphamale". His Telegram is https://t.me/theralphretort. Filled with stupid, childish, and racist content (absolutely de rigeur for these guys).





So basically, the groypers are (primarily) young men, supposedly Catholic, who are in this Nick cult and sh*t post and cause chaos for laughs. Very, very common words are "based" (meaning excellent, though it comes from the slang basehead, a term from the 1980s to describe people addicted to freebasing cocaine, a method which makes the drug smokable), "kek" which is sort of a horse laugh ("Ralph's was so kek"). Another groyper is a ridiculous trust fund guy called Dalton Clodfelter, Telegram https://t.me/DaltonClod, he uses "kek" for everything including "kekolicious" which others make fun of him for, "alogs" which is "the act of overplaying or exaggerating the negative traits of someone lulzy at irrational levels". https://sonichu.com/cwcki/A-Logging. There are many other terms but these seem most common.

So into the mix comes Milo who is now releasing these Ali Files and dumping private text messages and anything else he can get his hands on to convict Akbar in the court of public opinion (a police report has been filed by a groyper victim named SmileyDaFed https://twitter.com/SmileyDaFed, and police confirm an investigation is underway) which also discredits Nick.

Things are NOT dying down on this. Jaden is still doing Odysee streams tearing Nick and Akbar apart, Nick is flailing, and Milo keeps dumping evidence. Meanwhile, guys like Cernovich have disowned Akbar publicly, and guys like Jack Posobiec are removing content about Akbar from his Twitter content. Nice try, but this photo lives forever:

A right-wing conspiracy theorist with deep ties in the conservative movement has been accused of grooming children, and conservatives are looking to distance themselves.

Some of the most rabid, conspiratorial figures aligned with former President Donald Trump are engaged in a public feud stemming from allegations of child grooming. NBC News hasn’t independently verified the allegations. It's an ironic development for right-wing Republicans, who've spent the better part of the past few years trying to paint liberals as "groomers." You may know the "America First" movement due to its white nationalist leader, Nick Fuentes, an avowed racist and election denier who was personally invited to dine with Trump at his Florida estate last year. You may also know one of its most prominent associates, the right-wing conspiracy theorist Ali Alexander, who helped plan and promote pro-Trump "Stop the Steal" rallies in Washington in the months leading up to Jan. 6, 2021.

This week, Alexander is the subject of allegations from fellow “America First” associates who claim he sent sexually explicit texts and social media messages to multiple people linked to the organization when they were underage. As The Daily Beast reported on Monday, the allegations were spread, in large part, by the extremist Milo Yiannopolous, an “America First” associate who’s become an outcast in the conservative movement since issuing remarks in 2017 appearing to condone pedophilia. In recent weeks, Yiannopolous has been sharing screenshots allegedly outlining various claims of grooming against Alexander. The Daily Beast similarly cites screenshots purporting to show evidence of Alexander having sexual conversations with underage associates and references direct accounts from accusers, including one accuser’s appearance on a right-wing podcast. NBC News hasn’t independently verified the allegations against Alexander.

When confronted with the allegation he'd solicited a nude picture from an underage associate, Alexander denied that particular claim earlier this month. And he’s claimed some of the screenshots purporting to show him in contact with teenagers are “fake.” But he recently apologized for “any inappropriate messages sent over the years" and claimed "nothing unlawful has occurred. (The site RightWingWatch has done a great job documenting the scandal, FYI.) "When I've flirted or others have flirted with me, I've flexed my credentials or dropped corny pickup lines," he said. "Other times, I've been careless and should've qualified those coming up to me's identities during flirtatious banter at the start." The apology doesn't refer to any specific claims outlined in the Daily Beast's reporting.

Now, conservative extremists with apparent ties to Alexander are knifing him — and each other — to distance themselves from the fallout of these allegations. That includes Fuentes, who recently claimed Alexander is "bowing out of public life, and I asked him to do that — so, you know, you're welcome," he said, flippantly. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., who's also been linked to Alexander in the past but who appears to have fallen out of favor with him recently, on Monday called for the FBI to investigate Alexander over the allegations. She also suggested Fuentes was “in on” the scandal. (The Daily Beast article suggests Fuentes may have tried to cover up the incident by offering the accuser a job in politics). In a sexist, antisemitic, expletive-filled tirade against Yiannopoulos and Greene, Fuentes denied Greene's allegations and suggested he's considering a defamation lawsuit against her. Greene and Fuentes have developed a working relationship over the past few years, and Greene has even appeared at one of Fuentes' extremist conferences. Greene, of course, is one of the most vocal Republicans when it comes to lobbing baseless allegations that Democrats are groomers. Conservatives may want to give that word a rest for a bit.

What does based mean?

Based is a slang term that originally meant to be addicted to crack cocaine (or acting like you were), but was reclaimed by rapper Lil B for being yourself and not caring what others think of you—to carry yourself with swagger.

Based has been appropriated by the alt-right online as a general term of praise, as if “un-woke.”

Where does based come from?

Based comes from the slang basehead, a term from the 1980s to describe people addicted to freebasing cocaine, a method which makes the drug smokable. The term basehead became synonymous with the crack epidemic that swept the United States at the time. Over time, calling someone based was a way of saying that they were a crack addict, or acting like one, especially in West Coast street slang.

In the way slang things go, people acting eccentric or abnormal were labelled based. At least that’s what seems to have happened with quirky West Coast rapper Brandon “Lil B” McCartney. In reaction to people calling him based, Lil B decided to redefine the term. In 2007, his group, The Pack, released their debut album, Based Boys. In a 2010 interview in Complex magazine, Lil B described his new definition of based: “Based means being yourself. Not being scared of what people think about you. Not being afraid to do what you wanna do.”

It’s not clear when Lil B started calling himself Based God, but by 2011 that nickname was firmly associated with him. Eventually, a cosmology of Based God (or BasedGod) emerged, referring to becoming a sort of higher power that Lil B could access, allowing him special abilities, such as the power to curse basketball player Kevin Durant.

The re-invented based, as a signal of power and swagger, was picked up by the alt-right/white nationalist community online in the 2010s. In 2014, during a controversy over female video-game reviewers known as Gamergate, conservative commentator Christina Hoff Sommers was referred to as Based Mom for pushing back against criticisms that video games and their culture are sexist. Since then, referring to alt-right or right-wing conservative figures as based has become a sign of approval in online social-media forums like the pro-Trump subreddit, r/The_Donald.

Since Lil B claims to have access to this higher power known as TheBasedGod, he was able to curse Durant after the Thunder All-Star disparaged his music in 2011.

Who uses based?

Being based is a core part of Lil B’s brand, and so it’s no wonder he—and his fans—are all about that based life. In this hip-hop subculture, it’s all about being a based God—someone with “maximum swagger, a mansion, sports cars, wonton soup, and the inherent ability to fuck your bitch,” as one user on Quora put it. Not sure if the wonton soup bit is universal, but we think the point is that you can have whatever you want.

A catch phrase for Lil B fans is Thank You Based God—a sort of tongue-in-cheek conflation of a sincere thanks to God and an expression of Based God fandom. It even has its own acronym: TYBG. This catchphrase is a popular meme, typically shown over image macros of someone crying dramatically.

On the other side of the spectrum, alt-right, white nationalist, and other Trump supporters online have, incongruously, adopted based for their own purposes. They routinely post on forums like Reddit with headlines describing someone whose actions they approve of as based (e.g. “Based Boris Johnson refuses to apologize for saying women in burkas look like letterboxes.”).

In 2016, Slate writer Ben Mathis-Lilley perhaps best summed up this strange turn of events with based, worth quoting at length:

“So what we have here, then, is a word that was created amid an addiction epidemic in urban communities being adopted by bigoted fans of a presidential candidate who was demonstrated unprecedented contempt for, and ignorance of, said communities.”

A story about Tucker Carlson.

One year ago at this time I was on house arrest, with a tracking monitor on my ankle, literally unable to step foot outside my apartment. For the guy who was known for traveling the country and rallying people coast to coast, it was devastating to be stuck inside 1500 square feet feeling like my life was falling apart.

During those months I reached out over and over again to many of my media contacts who told me they would not be willing to have me on to talk about what happened to me. I felt abandoned by so many and siloed.

Feeling as though I was running out of places to turn, I sat down and wrote a 4 page letter to Tucker Carlson explaining everything. To me, it felt like sending a message in a bottle. A cry of distress that I could only hope might reach him. I gave it to a friend who went outside and mailed it on my behalf.

Several weeks later, on a Sunday evening, I was laying on my bed, inside my room where I had been for more than 70 straight days. I looked down and my phone and saw a message that said, “Brandon, it’s Tucker Carlson. I just read your letter which shocked and upset me”… and he went on to say that he wanted to interview me about my experience.

A month later, I flew to Florida, and sat with Tucker for over an hour to share my story. He has had me on numerous times since, to speak about the unjust treatment of J6 defendants, and to give me my voice back.

In a time when journalists are running away from stories for fear of what the public will think, this is a man who has shown true courage, integrity, honesty, and genuine courtesy to seek the truth even when it is dangerous or deeply unpopular to do so.

It is truly an honor for me to know him.
